00:01:01,000 --> 00:01:04,000
My dear Frodo,
00:01:08,160 --> 00:01:15,000
You asked me once if I had told you everything
there was to know about my adventures.
00:01:16,000 --> 00:01:20,000
And while I can honestly say I have told you the truth,
00:01:20,120 --> 00:01:24,000
I may not have told you all of it.
00:01:30,120 --> 00:01:32,190
I am old now, Frodo.
00:01:33,210 --> 00:01:38,120
I'm not the same hobbit I once was.
00:01:40,120 --> 00:01:47,120
I think it is time for you to know
what really happened.
00:01:49,090 --> 00:01:55,000
In a hole in the ground, there lived a hobbit.
00:01:56,000 --> 00:02:01,000
Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, full of worms and oozy smells.
00:02:01,190 --> 00:02:05,000
This was a hobbit hole, and that means
00:02:05,040 --> 00:02:12,120
Good food, a warm hearth, and all the comforts of home.
00:02:36,120 --> 00:02:37,120
Good morning.
00:02:37,120 --> 00:02:39,120
What do you mean?
00:02:39,120 --> 00:02:44,000
Do you mean to wish me a good morning,
or do you mean that it is a good morning whether I want it or not?
00:02:45,000 --> 00:02:50,000
Or perhaps you mean to say that you feel
good on this particular morning?
00:02:50,000 --> 00:02:54,000
Or are you simply stating that this is a morning to be good on?
00:02:56,000 --> 00:02:59,000
All of them at once, I suppose.
00:02:59,000 --> 00:03:01,000
Hmmmm.
00:03:04,120 --> 00:03:06,000
Can I help you?
00:03:06,000 --> 00:03:08,000
That remains to be seen.
00:03:10,000 --> 00:03:14,000
I am looking for someone to share in an adventure.
00:03:17,000 --> 00:03:18,070
An adventure?
00:03:20,000 --> 00:03:26,000
No, I don't imagine anyone west of Bree
would have much interest in adventures
00:03:26,000 --> 00:03:30,000
Nasty, disturbing, uncomfortable things.
00:03:31,020 --> 00:03:33,000
Make you late for dinner.
00:03:35,000 --> 00:03:37,000
Hmm.
00:03:37,000 --> 00:03:39,000
Hmmmm.
00:03:39,000 --> 00:03:43,000
Ahem. Good morning.
00:03:43,000 --> 00:03:48,000
To think that I should have lived to be
"good morning'd" by Beladona Took's son,
00:03:48,000 --> 00:03:51,000
As if I were selling buttons at the door!
00:03:51,120 --> 00:03:53,000
Beg your pardon?
00:03:53,000 --> 00:03:57,000
You've changed, and not entirely for the better,
Bilbo Baggins.
00:03:57,000 --> 00:03:58,000
I'm sorry, do I know you?
00:03:58,000 --> 00:04:01,120
Well you know my name, although you don't remember I belong to it.
00:04:01,120 --> 00:04:03,000
I'm Gandalf!
00:04:03,000 --> 00:04:06,000
And Gandalf means...
00:04:07,120 --> 00:04:09,120
... me.
00:04:09,120 --> 00:04:13,160
Not Gandalf, the wandering wizard who made such excellent fireworks?
00:04:13,160 --> 00:04:16,020
The Old Took used to have them on Midsummer's Eve!
00:04:16,020 --> 00:04:17,020
Yes.
00:04:17,120 --> 00:04:19,160
I had no idea you were still in business.
00:04:20,120 --> 00:04:22,120
And where else should I be?
00:04:22,120 --> 00:04:24,120
Well...
00:04:26,120 --> 00:04:31,120
Well I am pleased to find you remember something about me,
00:04:31,120 --> 00:04:33,120
even if it is only my fireworks.
00:04:35,120 --> 00:04:37,120
Well that's decided.
00:04:37,120 --> 00:04:42,120
It will be very good for you,
and most amusing for me.
00:04:43,000 --> 00:04:44,120
I shall inform the others.
00:04:44,120 --> 00:04:48,000
Inform the who? What?
No. No! No, wait.
00:04:48,000 --> 00:04:51,160
We do not want any adventures here. Thank you.
00:04:51,160 --> 00:04:53,070
Not today. No.
00:04:53,070 --> 00:04:58,190
I suggest you try over the hill,
or across the water.
00:05:00,160 --> 00:05:03,000
Good morning.
00:06:18,120 --> 00:06:20,040
[Ring]
00:06:25,000 --> 00:06:28,160
Dwalin. At your service.
00:06:29,160 --> 00:06:36,120
Umm, Bilbo Baggins at yours.
00:06:36,120 --> 00:06:38,120
Do we know each other?
00:06:39,000 --> 00:06:40,120
No.
00:06:41,000 --> 00:06:42,120
Which way, laddy?
00:06:43,000 --> 00:06:44,040
Is it down here?
00:06:44,040 --> 00:06:46,040
Is...is what down where?
00:06:47,000 --> 00:06:48,040
Supper.
00:06:48,120 --> 00:06:50,000
He said there'd be food,
00:06:50,000 --> 00:06:51,000
and lots of it.
00:06:51,000 --> 00:06:53,000
He? He said?
00:06:53,040 --> 00:06:55,000
Who said?
00:07:05,000 --> 00:07:08,120
Very good, this.
Any more?
00:07:08,120 --> 00:07:09,120
What?
00:07:09,120 --> 00:07:13,120
Oh! Yes, yes.
00:07:17,120 --> 00:07:20,120
Help yourself.
00:07:22,070 --> 00:07:28,120
It's just that, ummm... I wasn't expecting company.
00:07:28,120 --> 00:07:29,040
[Ring]
00:07:31,000 --> 00:07:32,120
That'll be the door.
00:07:37,120 --> 00:07:40,120
Balin. At your service.
00:07:41,040 --> 00:07:42,070
Good evening.
00:07:42,070 --> 00:07:44,070
Yes, yes it is.
00:07:44,210 --> 00:07:46,210
Although, I think it might rain later.
00:07:47,070 --> 00:07:49,040
Am I late?
00:07:49,040 --> 00:07:51,090
Late for what?
00:07:51,090 --> 00:07:53,210
Oh! Haha!
00:07:53,210 --> 00:07:56,000
Evening, brother.
00:07:57,000 --> 00:08:00,000
By my beard!
00:08:00,000 --> 00:08:03,000
You are shorter and wider than last we met.
00:08:03,000 --> 00:08:05,000
Wider, not shorter.
00:08:05,000 --> 00:08:07,000
Sharp enough for both of us.
00:08:17,120 --> 00:08:19,160
Excuse me. Sorry. I hate to interrupt.
00:08:19,160 --> 00:08:24,000
Uhh, the thing is, I'm not entirely sure you're in the right house.
00:08:24,000 --> 00:08:25,000
Have you eaten?
00:08:25,000 --> 00:08:27,000
It's not that I don't like visitors.
00:08:27,000 --> 00:08:30,140
I like visitors as much as the next hobbit,
00:08:30,140 --> 00:08:34,000
but I do like to know them before they come visiting.
00:08:34,000 --> 00:08:34,160
What is this?
00:08:34,160 --> 00:08:37,040
I don't know. I think it's supposed to be cheese. It's gone blue.
00:08:37,040 --> 00:08:38,040
It's riddled with mold.
00:08:38,040 --> 00:08:43,140
The thing is, I don't know either of you.
Not in the slightest.
00:08:43,140 --> 00:08:45,040
I don't mean to be blunt, but I...
00:08:45,040 --> 00:08:47,070
but I had to speak my mind. I am sorry.
00:08:49,020 --> 00:08:49,190
Ahem.
00:08:51,040 --> 00:08:53,000
Apology accepted.
00:08:53,000 --> 00:08:53,090
Well.
00:08:53,090 --> 00:08:55,090
O, now fill it up, brother.
Don't stint.
00:08:55,090 --> 00:08:56,210
[Ring]
00:09:01,140 --> 00:09:06,000
Fili and Kili.
At your service.
00:09:06,000 --> 00:09:07,090
You must be Mr. Boggins.
00:09:07,090 --> 00:09:09,120
Nope! You can't come in.
You've come to the wrong house.
00:09:09,120 --> 00:09:11,220
What?! Has it been canceled?
00:09:11,220 --> 00:09:13,080
No one told us.
00:09:13,080 --> 00:09:15,060
No, nothing's been canceled.
00:09:15,060 --> 00:09:17,060
Well that's a relief.
00:09:20,150 --> 00:09:23,150
Careful with these. I just had them sharpened.
00:09:24,000 --> 00:09:25,150
It's nice, this place.
00:09:26,160 --> 00:09:27,200
Did you do it yourself?
00:09:27,200 --> 00:09:29,200
No, it's been in the family for years.
00:09:29,200 --> 00:09:33,020
That's my mother's glory box!
Can you please not do that?
00:09:33,020 --> 00:09:35,160
Fili, Kili. Come on, give us a hand.
00:09:35,160 --> 00:09:37,040
Mr. Dwalin.
00:09:39,040 --> 00:09:41,190
Let's shove this in the hallway.
Otherwise we'll never get everyone in.
00:09:41,190 --> 00:09:44,000
Everyone!? How many more are there?
00:09:44,190 --> 00:09:46,000
Oh, no.
00:09:46,000 --> 00:09:50,000
No. No! There's nobody home!
00:09:50,000 --> 00:09:53,000
Go away, and bother somebody else!
00:09:53,000 --> 00:09:56,040
There's far too many dwarves in my dining room as it is!
00:09:56,040 --> 00:10:00,040
If this is some clodhead's idea of a joke,
00:10:00,040 --> 00:10:04,120
I can only say, it is in very poor taste!
00:10:13,120 --> 00:10:15,000
Gandalf.
00:10:15,000 --> 00:10:17,120
Those are my plates! Excuse me! Not my wine.
00:10:17,120 --> 00:10:18,120
Put that back.
00:10:18,120 --> 00:10:19,120
Put that back!
00:10:19,120 --> 00:10:20,160
Not the jam, please.
00:10:20,160 --> 00:10:22,020
Excuse me. Excuse me.
00:10:22,020 --> 00:10:25,000
A tad excessive, isn't it?
Have you got a cheese knife?
00:10:25,000 --> 00:10:27,070
Cheese knife? He eats it by the block.
00:10:28,070 --> 00:10:30,000
No, no that's Grandpa Mungo's chair.
00:10:30,000 --> 00:10:33,000
So is that. Take it back, please.
Take it back, it's an antique!
00:10:33,000 --> 00:10:34,040
Not for sitting on.
00:10:41,040 --> 00:10:42,040
Excuse me,
00:10:42,040 --> 00:10:44,000
Mr. Gandalf?
00:10:44,000 --> 00:10:46,190
May I tempt you with a cup of chamomile?
00:10:46,190 --> 00:10:50,190
Oh, no thank you, Dori.
A little red wine for me, I think.
00:10:59,000 --> 00:11:01,190
Fili, Kili.
00:11:01,190 --> 00:11:03,190
Oin, Gloin.
00:11:03,190 --> 00:11:05,190
Dwalin, Balin.
00:11:05,190 --> 00:11:08,190
Bifur, Bofur, Bombur,
Dori, Nori.
00:11:08,190 --> 00:11:10,190
Ori.
00:11:14,190 --> 00:11:16,190
Yes, you are quite right, Bifur.
00:11:17,000 --> 00:11:20,000
We appear to be one dwarf short.
00:11:20,000 --> 00:11:21,090
He is late is all.
00:11:21,090 --> 00:11:25,090
He traveled North to a meeting of our kin.
He will come.
00:11:25,140 --> 00:11:29,150
Mr. Gandalf, a little glass of red wine as requested.
00:11:29,150 --> 00:11:31,150
It's got a fruity bouquet.
00:11:31,150 --> 00:11:33,150
Ahhh, cheers.
00:11:45,090 --> 00:11:47,000
Bombur, catch!
00:12:01,000 --> 00:12:02,000
Who wants an ale?
00:12:02,000 --> 00:12:03,000
There you go.
00:12:04,210 --> 00:12:08,000
Have another drink!
Here you go.
00:12:12,120 --> 00:12:14,000
Ale on the count of three.
00:12:14,000 --> 00:12:16,120
One. Two.
00:12:26,070 --> 00:12:29,070
Excuse me, that is a doily, not a dishcloth.
00:12:29,070 --> 00:12:30,070
But it's full of holes!
00:12:30,070 --> 00:12:32,100
It's supposed to look like that.
It's crochet.
00:12:32,120 --> 00:12:35,070
Oh, and a wonderful game it is, too!
If you've got the balls for it.
00:12:35,070 --> 00:12:37,140
Bebother and confusticate these dwarves!
00:12:37,140 --> 00:12:41,000
My dear Bilbo, what on earth is the matter?
00:12:41,000 --> 00:12:42,000
What's the matter?
00:12:42,000 --> 00:12:45,120
I'm surrounded by dwarves.
What are they doing here?
00:12:45,120 --> 00:12:47,200
Oh, they're quite a merry gathering
00:12:47,220 --> 00:12:49,060
once you get used to them.
00:12:49,060 --> 00:12:52,000
I don't want to get used to them!
00:12:52,000 --> 00:12:52,210
The state of my kitchen!
00:12:52,210 --> 00:12:56,210
There's mud trod into the carpet. They've pillaged the pantry.
00:12:56,210 --> 00:13:00,070
I'm not even going to tell you what they've done in the bathroom.
They've all but destroyed the plumbing.
00:13:00,070 --> 00:13:02,120
I don't understand what they're doing in my house!
00:13:03,000 --> 00:13:08,190
Excuse me. I'm sorry to interrupt, but what should I do with my plate?
00:13:08,190 --> 00:13:10,190
Here you go Ori, give it to me.
00:13:16,120 --> 00:13:21,000
Excuse me! That's my mother's Westfarthing pottery.
It's over 100 years old!
00:13:25,000 --> 00:13:28,000
And can you not do that?
You'll blunt them.
00:13:28,000 --> 00:13:30,040
Oh, do you hear that, lads?
00:13:30,040 --> 00:13:33,040
He says we'll blunt the knives.
00:13:33,040 --> 00:13:35,140
Blunt the knives and bend the forks!
00:13:35,140 --> 00:13:38,140
Smash the bottles and burn the corks!
00:13:38,140 --> 00:13:40,210
Chip the glasses and crack the plates!
00:13:40,210 --> 00:13:43,210
That's what Bilbo Baggins hates.
00:13:43,210 --> 00:13:45,120
Cut the cloth and trail the fat!
00:13:45,120 --> 00:13:47,120
Leave the bones on the bedroom mat!
00:13:47,120 --> 00:13:49,210
Pour the milk on the pantry floor!
00:13:51,000 --> 00:13:53,070
Splash the wine on every door!
00:13:53,070 --> 00:13:55,070
Dump the crocks in a boiling bowl!
00:13:55,070 --> 00:13:57,070
Pound them up with a thumping pole!
00:13:57,070 --> 00:14:02,070
And when you've finished, if they are whole,
00:14:02,070 --> 00:14:04,070
Send them down the hall to roll!
00:14:12,070 --> 00:14:15,000
That's what Bilbo Baggins hates!
00:14:21,140 --> 00:14:22,160
[Banging on the door]
00:14:27,210 --> 00:14:29,210
He is here.
00:14:33,210 --> 00:14:34,160
Gandalf,
00:14:36,160 --> 00:14:40,000
I thought you said this place would be easy to find.
00:14:40,000 --> 00:14:42,000
I lost my way. Twice.
00:14:42,000 --> 00:14:45,040
I wouldn't have found it at all had it not been for that mark on the door.
00:14:45,040 --> 00:14:48,140
Mark? There's no mark on that door.
It was painted a week ago!
00:14:48,140 --> 00:14:52,140
There is a mark. I put it there myself.
00:14:52,140 --> 00:14:57,040
Bilbo Baggins, allow me to introduce the leader of our company:
00:14:57,040 --> 00:14:59,120
Thorin Oakenshield.
00:14:59,120 --> 00:15:01,120
So...
00:15:02,040 --> 00:15:03,120
...this is the hobbit.
00:15:05,120 --> 00:15:07,120
Tell me, Mr. Baggins, have you done much fighting?
00:15:07,120 --> 00:15:08,070
Pardon me?
00:15:08,070 --> 00:15:11,160
Axe or sword?
What's your weapon of choice?
00:15:11,160 --> 00:15:18,210
Well, I have some skill at Conkers, if you must know,
but I fail to see why that's relevant.
00:15:18,210 --> 00:15:21,000
Thought as much.
00:15:21,000 --> 00:15:23,000
He looks more like a grocer than a burglar.
00:15:29,000 --> 00:15:32,190
What news from the meeting in Ered Luin?
Did they all come?
00:15:32,190 --> 00:15:35,000
Aye. Envoys from all seven kingdoms.
00:15:36,000 --> 00:15:39,120
And what do the dwarves of the iron hills say?
00:15:39,120 --> 00:15:41,120
Is Dain with us?
00:15:44,000 --> 00:15:46,000
They will not come.
00:15:48,120 --> 00:15:52,120
They say this quest is ours, and ours alone.
00:15:55,000 --> 00:15:57,000
You're going on a quest?
00:15:58,000 --> 00:16:03,000
Bilbo, my dear fellow,
let us have a little more light.
00:16:04,040 --> 00:16:13,000
Far to the East, over ranges and rivers,
beyond woodlands and wastelands
00:16:13,000 --> 00:16:15,040
lies a single solitary peak.
00:16:18,210 --> 00:16:20,210
The Lonely Mountain.
00:16:21,210 --> 00:16:28,210
Aye. Oin has read the portents,
and the portents say, "It is time."
00:16:28,210 --> 00:16:33,040
Ravens have been seen flying back to the Mountain, as it was foretold.
00:16:33,040 --> 00:16:40,210
"When the birds of yore return to Erebor, the reign of the beast will end."
00:16:44,000 --> 00:16:45,120
What beast?
00:16:45,120 --> 00:16:51,210
Well that would be a reference to Smaug the Terrible,
chiefest and greatest calamity of our age.
00:16:51,210 --> 00:16:59,020
Airborne fire-breather, teeth like razors, claws like meat hooks,
extremely fond of precious metals
00:16:59,020 --> 00:17:00,120
Yes, I know what a dragon is.
00:17:00,120 --> 00:17:02,120
I'm not afraid. I'm up for it.
00:17:02,120 --> 00:17:06,000
I'll give him a taste of dwarfish iron right up his jacksie!
00:17:06,120 --> 00:17:07,120
Sit down.
00:17:07,120 --> 00:17:10,120
The task would be difficult enough with an army behind us,
00:17:10,120 --> 00:17:12,120
but we number just 13,
00:17:12,120 --> 00:17:16,140
and not 13 of the best... nor brightest.
00:17:21,000 --> 00:17:27,070
We may be few in number, but we're fighters, all of us.
To the last dwarf!
00:17:27,160 --> 00:17:33,140
And you forget, we have a wizard in our company.
Gandalf will have killed hundreds of dragons in his time!
00:17:33,140 --> 00:17:35,120
O well, no. I wouldn't say...
00:17:35,120 --> 00:17:39,070
How many then? How many dragons have you killed?
00:17:42,000 --> 00:17:44,000
Go on. Give us a number!
00:17:53,000 --> 00:17:58,000
If we have read these signs, do you not think others will have read them too?
00:17:59,120 --> 00:18:02,000
Rumors have begun to spread.
00:18:02,000 --> 00:18:05,000
The dragon Smaug has not been seen for sixty years.
00:18:06,000 --> 00:18:12,120
Eyes look East to the Mountain. Assessing, wondering, weighing the risk.
00:18:12,190 --> 00:18:16,140
Perhaps the vast wealth of our people now lies unprotected.
00:18:16,140 --> 00:18:24,020
Do we sit back while others claim what is rightfully ours?
Or do we seize this chance to take back Erebor?
00:18:26,020 --> 00:18:29,020
You forget: the front gate is sealed.
00:18:29,020 --> 00:18:31,140
There is no way into the mountain.
00:18:31,140 --> 00:18:35,140
That, my dear Balin, is not entirely true.
00:18:39,210 --> 00:18:41,210
How came you by this?
00:18:41,210 --> 00:18:48,020
It was given to me by your father, by Thrain, for safekeeping.
00:18:48,140 --> 00:18:50,140
It is yours now.
00:18:58,000 --> 00:19:02,130
If there is a key, there must be a door.
00:19:03,010 --> 00:19:07,000
These runes speak of a hidden passage to the Lower Halls.
00:19:07,120 --> 00:19:09,120
There's another way in.
00:19:10,000 --> 00:19:15,120
Well, if we can find it, but dwarf doors are invisible when closed.
00:19:16,120 --> 00:19:21,120
The answer lies hidden somewhere in this map,
and I do not have the skill to find it,
00:19:21,120 --> 00:19:26,120
but there are others in Middle Earth who can.
00:19:26,120 --> 00:19:32,120
The task I have in mind will require a great deal of stealth,
and no small amount of courage.
00:19:32,120 --> 00:19:38,000
But if you are careful, and clever,
I believe that it can be done.
00:19:38,000 --> 00:19:40,000
That's why we need a burglar!
00:19:40,000 --> 00:19:43,000
Hmm, and a good one too.
An expert, I'd imagine.
00:19:43,000 --> 00:19:45,120
And are you?
00:19:48,120 --> 00:19:49,160
Am I what?
00:19:49,160 --> 00:19:52,160
He said he's an expert!
00:19:53,040 --> 00:19:56,000
Me? No, no, no.
I'm not a burglar.
00:19:56,000 --> 00:19:58,000
I've never stolen a thing in my life.
00:19:58,000 --> 00:20:01,120
I'm afraid I have to agree with Mr. Baggins.
00:20:01,120 --> 00:20:03,120
He's hardly burglar material.
00:20:03,120 --> 00:20:04,120
Nope.
00:20:04,120 --> 00:20:09,120
Aye, the wild is no place for gentle folk
who can neither fight nor fend for themselves.
00:20:16,120 --> 00:20:23,000
Enough! If I say Bilbo Baggins is a burglar,
then a burglar he is.
00:20:24,040 --> 00:20:27,000
Hobbits are remarkably light on their feet.
00:20:27,000 --> 00:20:30,040
In fact, they can pass unseen by most, if they choose.
00:20:30,040 --> 00:20:37,040
And while the dragon is accustomed to the smell of dwarf,
the scent of a hobbit is all but unknown to him,
00:20:37,040 --> 00:20:40,040
which gives us a distinct advantage.
00:20:40,040 --> 00:20:43,070
You asked me to find the 14th member of this company,
00:20:43,070 --> 00:20:45,210
and I have chosen Mr. Baggins.
00:20:45,210 --> 00:20:48,140
There's a lot more to him than appearances suggest.
00:20:48,140 --> 00:20:52,140
And he's got a great deal more to offer than any of you know,
00:20:52,140 --> 00:20:54,140
including himself.
00:21:00,000 --> 00:21:02,000
You must trust me on this.
00:21:05,120 --> 00:21:10,120
Very well. We will do it your way.
Give him the contract!
00:21:10,120 --> 00:21:11,120
No, please!
00:21:11,120 --> 00:21:19,000
It's just the usual summary of out-of-pocket expenses,
time required, remuneration, funeral arrangements, so forth.
00:21:19,120 --> 00:21:21,000
Funeral arrangements?
00:21:26,190 --> 00:21:28,190
I cannot guarantee his safety.
00:21:28,190 --> 00:21:29,210
Understood.
00:21:30,070 --> 00:21:33,040
Nor will I be responsible for his fate.
00:21:36,160 --> 00:21:38,040
Agreed.
00:21:38,040 --> 00:21:43,190
Terms: Cash on delivery, up to but not exceeding 1/14 of total profit, if any.
00:21:43,190 --> 00:21:45,150
Seems fair.
00:21:45,150 --> 00:21:50,150
Present company shall not be liable for injuries inflicted by or sustained as a consequence thereof,
00:21:50,150 --> 00:21:54,150
including, but not limited to:
lacerations...
00:21:55,150 --> 00:21:57,150
evisceration...
00:21:59,220 --> 00:22:01,220
Incineration?
00:22:01,220 --> 00:22:05,220
Aye! He'll melt the flesh off your bones in the blink of an eye.
00:22:09,220 --> 00:22:10,180
You alright, laddy?
00:22:10,180 --> 00:22:14,130
Huh? Yeah. I feel...
00:22:14,130 --> 00:22:16,060
I feel a bit faint.
00:22:16,060 --> 00:22:18,010
Think furnace with wings.
00:22:18,010 --> 00:22:19,150
Air. I need air.
00:22:19,150 --> 00:22:24,200
Flash of light, searing pain, then poof!
You're nothin' more than a pile of ash.
00:22:24,200 --> 00:22:26,200
Hmmm.
00:22:31,060 --> 00:22:32,010
Nope.
00:22:32,010 --> 00:22:35,080
Oh, very helpful, Bofur.
00:22:35,080 --> 00:22:38,000
I'll be alright. Just let me sit quietly for a moment.
00:22:38,000 --> 00:22:41,140
You've been sitting quietly for far too long!
00:22:41,140 --> 00:22:48,140
Tell me: When did doilies and your mother's dishes become so important to you?
00:22:48,140 --> 00:22:53,140
I remember a young hobbit who was always running off in search of elves in the woods.
00:22:53,140 --> 00:22:57,000
He'd stay out late, come home after dark,
00:22:57,000 --> 00:23:00,120
trailing mud and twigs and fireflies.
00:23:00,120 --> 00:23:06,120
A young hobbit who would've liked nothing better than
to find out what was beyond the borders of the Shire.
00:23:06,210 --> 00:23:10,120
The world is not in your books and maps.
00:23:11,160 --> 00:23:13,160
It's out there.
00:23:15,120 --> 00:23:18,070
I can't just go running off into the blue!
00:23:18,070 --> 00:23:20,070
I am a Baggins...
00:23:20,070 --> 00:23:21,140
...of Bag End.
00:23:21,140 --> 00:23:23,220
You are also a Took!
00:23:25,130 --> 00:23:31,220
Did you know that your great-great-great-great Uncle Bullroarer Took
was so large he could ride a real horse?
00:23:31,220 --> 00:23:32,130
Yes
00:23:32,130 --> 00:23:34,130
Well he could!
00:23:34,130 --> 00:23:37,130
At the Battle of Greenfields, he charged the Goblin ranks.
00:23:37,130 --> 00:23:41,130
He swung his club so hard, it knocked the Goblin King's head clean off,
00:23:41,130 --> 00:23:45,130
and it sailed a hundred yards through the air and went down a rabbit hole.
00:23:45,130 --> 00:23:51,130
And thus the battle was won,
and the game of golf invented at the same time.
00:23:54,130 --> 00:23:56,030
I do believe you made that up.
00:23:56,030 --> 00:23:59,220
Well, all good stories deserve embellishment.
00:24:02,000 --> 00:24:05,190
You'll have a tale or two to tell of your own when you come back.
00:24:09,190 --> 00:24:12,090
Can you promise that I will come back?
00:24:14,040 --> 00:24:15,040
No.
00:24:15,120 --> 00:24:18,000
And if you do...
00:24:18,000 --> 00:24:20,000
you will not be the same.
00:24:22,120 --> 00:24:24,000
That's what I thought.
00:24:24,040 --> 00:24:28,090
Sorry, Gandalf. I can't sign this.
00:24:30,000 --> 00:24:32,000
You've got the wrong hobbit.
00:24:38,040 --> 00:24:43,040
It appears we have lost our burglar.
00:24:43,040 --> 00:24:45,040
Probably for the best.
00:24:45,140 --> 00:24:47,140
The odds were always against us.
00:24:47,210 --> 00:24:51,140
After all, what are we?
00:24:51,140 --> 00:24:57,140
Merchants, miners, tinkers, toy makers.
00:24:57,140 --> 00:25:00,140
Hardly the stuff of legend.
00:25:00,210 --> 00:25:03,190
There are a few warriors amongst us.
00:25:03,190 --> 00:25:05,190
Old warriors.
00:25:05,190 --> 00:25:10,120
I would take each and every one of these dwarves over an army from the Iron Hills,
00:25:11,000 --> 00:25:14,120
for when I called upon them, they answered.
00:25:14,120 --> 00:25:19,120
Loyalty, honor, a willing heart.
00:25:21,120 --> 00:25:24,000
I can ask no more than that.
00:25:24,040 --> 00:25:26,090
You don't have to do this.
00:25:26,140 --> 00:25:28,160
You have a choice.
00:25:28,160 --> 00:25:32,160
You've done honorably by our people.
00:25:32,160 --> 00:25:36,000
You have built a new life for us in the Blue Mountains.
00:25:36,000 --> 00:25:39,120
A life of peace and plenty.
00:25:41,000 --> 00:25:45,040
A life that is worth more than all the gold in Erebor.
00:25:45,150 --> 00:25:49,040
From the grandfather to my father,
00:25:49,040 --> 00:25:51,040
this has come to me.
00:25:52,210 --> 00:25:57,040
They dreamt of the day when the dwarves of Erebor would reclaim their homeland.
00:25:58,000 --> 00:26:01,040
There is no choice, Balin.
00:26:02,120 --> 00:26:04,000
Not for me.
00:26:06,040 --> 00:26:09,040
Then we are with you, laddy.
00:26:09,160 --> 00:26:11,140
We will see it done.
00:26:34,070 --> 00:26:41,120
Far over the misty mountains cold,
00:26:43,000 --> 00:26:51,120
To dungeons deep and caverns old,
00:26:52,040 --> 00:26:59,120
We must away ere break of day
00:27:01,160 --> 00:27:10,000
To find our long forgotten gold.
00:27:10,120 --> 00:27:19,120
The pines were roaring on the height,
00:27:19,120 --> 00:27:28,000
The winds were moaning in the night,
00:27:28,000 --> 00:27:37,000
The fire was red, it flaming spread;
00:27:37,000 --> 00:27:46,000
The trees like torches blazed with light.
00:28:16,000 --> 00:28:17,120
Hello?
00:28:27,120 --> 00:28:31,000
Yes. Yes!
00:29:38,040 --> 00:29:41,040
You! Mr. Bilbo, where are you off to?
00:29:41,040 --> 00:29:43,000
Can't stop! I'm already late.
00:29:43,000 --> 00:29:44,000
Late for what?
00:29:44,000 --> 00:29:47,000
I'm going on an adventure!
00:29:53,000 --> 00:29:56,040
Didn't I say it? Coming here was a waste of time!
00:29:56,040 --> 00:29:58,000
That's true enough!
00:29:58,000 --> 00:30:01,000
Ridiculous notion. Use a hobbit?! A halfling?
00:30:01,000 --> 00:30:03,000
Whose idea was it anyway?
00:30:03,000 --> 00:30:05,120
Wait! Wait!
00:30:16,160 --> 00:30:18,160
I signed it.
00:30:30,140 --> 00:30:32,120
Everything appears to be in order.
00:30:33,120 --> 00:30:40,000
Welcome, Master Baggins, to the company of Thorin Oakenshield.
00:30:45,070 --> 00:30:47,000
Give him a pony.
00:30:47,000 --> 00:30:49,120
No, no, no. That won't be necessary. Thank you.
00:30:49,120 --> 00:30:51,120
I'm sure I can keep up on foot.
00:30:51,120 --> 00:30:53,190
I've done my fair share of walking holidays.
00:30:53,190 --> 00:30:55,190
I even got as far as Frogmorton once.
00:31:10,000 --> 00:31:13,000
Come on, Nori. Pay up!
00:31:16,000 --> 00:31:17,040
What's that about?
00:31:17,140 --> 00:31:22,040
Oh, they took wagers on whether or not you would turn up.
00:31:22,040 --> 00:31:24,190
Most of them bet that you wouldn't.
00:31:26,190 --> 00:31:29,120
And what did you think?
00:31:32,120 --> 00:31:37,120
My dear fellow, I never doubted you for a second.
00:31:41,160 --> 00:31:46,040
Oh, it's horse hair. Having a reaction.
00:31:48,070 --> 00:31:50,020
Wait, wait. Stop!
00:31:50,020 --> 00:31:52,020
Stop! We have to turn around!
00:31:52,070 --> 00:31:54,190
What on earth is the matter?
00:31:54,190 --> 00:31:56,120
I forgot my handkerchief.
00:31:56,120 --> 00:31:58,120
Here!
00:31:58,120 --> 00:32:00,120
Use this.
00:32:04,020 --> 00:32:05,120
Move on.
00:32:12,120 --> 00:32:15,190
You'll have to manage without pocket handkerchiefs,
00:32:15,190 --> 00:32:18,190
and a good many other things, Bilbo Baggins,
00:32:18,190 --> 00:32:21,190
before we reach our journey's end.
00:32:22,190 --> 00:32:27,000
You were born to the rolling hills and little rivers of the Shire,
00:32:28,140 --> 00:32:31,190
but home is now behind you.
00:32:31,190 --> 00:32:34,190
The world is ahead.
00:32:59,040 --> 00:33:01,000
We'll camp here for the night.
00:33:01,120 --> 00:33:04,000
Fili, Kili. Care for the ponies.
00:33:04,000 --> 00:33:06,000
Make sure you stay with them.
00:33:06,120 --> 00:33:10,120
A farmer and his family used to live here.
00:33:10,120 --> 00:33:11,160
Oin, Gloin.
00:33:11,160 --> 00:33:12,090
Aye?
00:33:12,090 --> 00:33:13,160
Get a fire going.
00:33:13,160 --> 00:33:14,070
Right you are.
00:33:14,070 --> 00:33:19,000
I think it would be wiser to move on.
00:33:19,000 --> 00:33:21,000
We could make for the hidden valley.
00:33:22,070 --> 00:33:26,190
I have told you already.
I will not go near that place.
00:33:26,190 --> 00:33:29,070
Why not? The elves could help us.
00:33:29,070 --> 00:33:31,120
We could get food, rest, advice.
00:33:31,120 --> 00:33:33,140
I do not need their advice.
00:33:33,140 --> 00:33:37,140
We have a map that we cannot read.
Lord Elrond could help us.
00:33:37,160 --> 00:33:39,140
Help?
00:33:39,140 --> 00:33:45,000
A dragon attacks Erebor. What help came from the elves?
00:33:46,000 --> 00:33:50,000
Orcs plunder Moria, desecrate our sacred halls.
00:33:50,000 --> 00:33:53,000
The elves looked on and did nothing.
00:33:53,000 --> 00:33:57,120
You ask me to seek out the very people who betrayed my grandfather.
00:33:58,070 --> 00:34:00,070
Who betrayed my father.
00:34:00,070 --> 00:34:02,070
You are neither of them.
00:34:02,070 --> 00:34:06,070
I did not give you that map and key for you to hold onto the past.
00:34:06,070 --> 00:34:08,070
I did not know that they were yours to keep!
00:34:14,120 --> 00:34:17,120
Everything alright? Gandalf, where are you going?
00:34:17,120 --> 00:34:21,000
To seek the company of the only one around here who's got any sense.
00:34:21,000 --> 00:34:21,190
And who's that?
00:34:21,190 --> 00:34:23,190
Myself, Mr. Baggins!
00:34:24,070 --> 00:34:27,000
I've had enough of dwarves for one day.
00:34:28,120 --> 00:34:31,000
Come on Bombur, we're hungry.
00:34:31,070 --> 00:34:33,000
Is he coming back?
00:34:37,140 --> 00:34:38,210
He's been a long time.
00:34:38,210 --> 00:34:40,000
Who?
00:34:40,000 --> 00:34:40,160
Gandalf.
00:34:40,160 --> 00:34:43,000
He's a wizard! He does as he chooses.
00:34:43,000 --> 00:34:46,160
Here. Do us a favor: take this to the lads.
00:34:46,160 --> 00:34:48,000
Stop it, you've have plenty.
00:35:07,120 --> 00:35:08,120
What's the matter?
00:35:08,120 --> 00:35:10,070
We're supposed to be looking out for the ponies.
00:35:10,070 --> 00:35:13,070
Only we've encountered a slight problem.
00:35:13,070 --> 00:35:15,070
We had 16.
00:35:15,070 --> 00:35:17,090
Now there's 14.
00:35:21,160 --> 00:35:23,000
Daisy and Bungo are missing.
00:35:24,000 --> 00:35:26,070
Well that's not good.
00:35:26,070 --> 00:35:28,000
And that is not good at all!
00:35:28,000 --> 00:35:29,040
Shouldn't we tell Thorin?
00:35:29,040 --> 00:35:31,140
Uhh, no. Let's not worry him.
00:35:31,210 --> 00:35:35,120
As our official burglar, we thought you might like to look into it.
00:35:35,120 --> 00:35:40,210
Well, uh, something big uprooted these trees.
00:35:40,210 --> 00:35:41,190
That was our thinking.
00:35:41,190 --> 00:35:47,000
Something very big, and possibly quite dangerous.
00:35:47,120 --> 00:35:49,120
Hey!
There's a light.
00:35:50,120 --> 00:35:51,120
Over here.
00:35:55,000 --> 00:35:56,000
Stay down!
00:36:01,000 --> 00:36:03,000
What is it?
00:36:03,000 --> 00:36:05,000
Trolls.
00:36:31,000 --> 00:36:33,000
He's got Myrtle and Mindy!
00:36:33,000 --> 00:36:37,000
I think they're going to eat them.
We have to do something!
00:36:37,000 --> 00:36:39,000
Yes, you should.
00:36:39,000 --> 00:36:41,120
Mountain trolls are slow and stupid,
00:36:41,120 --> 00:36:43,000
and you're so small, they'll never see you.
00:36:43,000 --> 00:36:45,120
It's perfectly safe! We'll be right behind you.
00:36:45,120 --> 00:36:49,040
If you run into trouble, hoot twice like a barn owl and once like a brown owl.
00:36:49,040 --> 00:36:50,040
Twice like a barn owl.
00:36:50,040 --> 00:36:51,190
No, twice like a brown...
00:36:51,190 --> 00:36:53,040
Once like a barn...
00:36:53,040 --> 00:36:55,000
Are you sure this is a good idea?
00:36:55,000 --> 00:36:58,000
Mutton yesterday. Mutton today.
00:36:58,000 --> 00:37:02,120
And blimey, if it don't look like mutton again tomorrow.
00:37:02,120 --> 00:37:04,120
Quit your griping.
00:37:04,120 --> 00:37:06,120
These ain't sheep.
00:37:07,120 --> 00:37:10,120
These is fresh nags!
00:37:10,120 --> 00:37:12,190
I don't like horse. I never have.
00:37:12,190 --> 00:37:14,090
Not enough fat on them.
00:37:14,210 --> 00:37:17,000
Well it's better than a leathery old farmer.
00:37:17,000 --> 00:37:19,000
All skin and bone, he was.
00:37:19,000 --> 00:37:22,000
I'm still picking bits of him out of me teeth.
00:37:23,000 --> 00:37:26,000
Well, that's lovely, that is. A floater!
00:37:26,000 --> 00:37:28,090
Might improve the flavor.
00:37:28,090 --> 00:37:30,090
Ahh, there's more where that came from.
00:37:31,090 --> 00:37:33,000
Oh no you don't!
00:37:33,000 --> 00:37:34,120
Sit down!
00:37:36,120 --> 00:37:39,070
I hope you're gonna gut these nags.
00:37:39,070 --> 00:37:42,070
I don't like the stinky parts.
00:37:43,070 --> 00:37:45,070
I said sit down!
00:37:46,000 --> 00:37:49,070
I'm starving. Are we having horse tonight or what?
00:37:49,140 --> 00:37:51,160
Shut your cake hole.
00:37:51,160 --> 00:37:53,210
You'll eat what I give ya.
00:37:54,210 --> 00:37:58,160
How come he's the cook? Everything tastes the same.
00:37:58,160 --> 00:38:00,160
Everything tastes like chicken.
00:38:00,160 --> 00:38:02,090
Except the chicken.
00:38:02,090 --> 00:38:04,090
Wrap your laughing gear around that, mate.
00:38:06,090 --> 00:38:08,090
Good, isn't it?
00:38:13,000 --> 00:38:14,090
Blimey!
00:38:14,090 --> 00:38:17,090
Bert! Look what's come out of me hooter!
00:38:17,090 --> 00:38:19,090
It's got arms and legs and everything!
00:38:20,000 --> 00:38:21,090
What is it?
00:38:21,090 --> 00:38:25,090
I don't know, but I don't like the way it wriggles around.
00:38:27,120 --> 00:38:31,120
What are you then? An oversized squirrel?
00:38:31,120 --> 00:38:33,120
I'm a burglar. Uhh, hobbit!
00:38:33,120 --> 00:38:35,120
A burglarhobbit?
00:38:35,120 --> 00:38:37,120
Can we cook him?
00:38:37,120 --> 00:38:39,160
We can try!
00:38:42,000 --> 00:38:48,000
He wouldn’t make more than a mouthful, not when he’s skinned and boned!
00:38:48,000 --> 00:38:51,000
Perhaps there’s more burglar-hobbits around these parts.
00:38:51,000 --> 00:38:53,040
Might be enough for a pie.
00:38:54,040 --> 00:38:55,040
Grab him!
00:38:55,040 --> 00:38:57,040
It's too quick.
00:38:57,040 --> 00:38:59,040
Come here, you little...
00:39:00,040 --> 00:39:01,040
Gotcha!
00:39:01,040 --> 00:39:06,040
Are there any more of you little fellas hiding where you shouldn’t?
00:39:10,000 --> 00:39:11,000
Drop him!
00:39:11,070 --> 00:39:13,040
You what?
00:39:13,040 --> 00:39:15,040
I said,
00:39:15,040 --> 00:39:17,040
Drop him.
00:40:15,120 --> 00:40:16,190
Bilbo!
00:40:18,000 --> 00:40:21,000
Lay down your arms,
00:40:21,000 --> 00:40:23,000
or we'll rip his off!
00:40:38,000 --> 00:40:39,120
That's hot, that's hot!
00:40:39,120 --> 00:40:41,120
Don't bother cooking 'em.
00:40:41,120 --> 00:40:45,120
Let's just sit on 'em, and squash them into jelly.
(Put me down!)
00:40:45,120 --> 00:40:50,190
They should be salty and grilled, with a sprinkle of sage.
(Untie me!)
00:40:50,190 --> 00:40:53,190
Oh, that does sound quite nice.
(Is this really necessary?)
00:40:56,120 --> 00:41:01,000
Never mind the seasoning. We ain't got all night.
00:41:01,000 --> 00:41:02,140
Dawn ain't far away
00:41:02,140 --> 00:41:04,140
Let's get a move on.
00:41:04,140 --> 00:41:07,040
I don't fancy being turned to stone!
00:41:09,120 --> 00:41:11,000
Wait!
00:41:11,000 --> 00:41:14,040
You are making a terrible mistake.
00:41:14,040 --> 00:41:16,210
You can't reason with them.
They're half-wits!
00:41:16,210 --> 00:41:18,210
Half-wits? What does that make us?
00:41:19,000 --> 00:41:22,120
I meant with the, uh, with the seasoning.
00:41:22,120 --> 00:41:25,050
What about the seasoning?
00:41:25,050 --> 00:41:27,050
Well, have you smelt them?
00:41:27,050 --> 00:41:31,050
You're gonna need something stronger than sage before you plate this lot up!
(Traitor!)
00:41:31,050 --> 00:41:34,070
What do you know about cooking dwarf?
00:41:34,070 --> 00:41:39,070
Shut up! And let the…uh, flurgerburbur-hobbit talk.
00:41:39,230 --> 00:41:43,070
The secret to cooking dwarf is um...
00:41:43,070 --> 00:41:45,100
Yes? Come on!
00:41:45,100 --> 00:41:46,020
It's uh...
00:41:46,020 --> 00:41:46,220
Tell us the secret!
00:41:46,220 --> 00:41:50,010
Yes, I'm telling you! The secret is...
00:41:51,130 --> 00:41:54,010
...to skin them first.
00:41:55,130 --> 00:41:57,070
Tom, get me filleting knife.
00:41:57,070 --> 00:41:59,210
What!? Forget you, you little...
00:41:59,210 --> 00:42:02,000
I won't forget that. I won't forget it!
00:42:02,000 --> 00:42:07,000
What a load of rubbish! I've eaten plenty with their skins on.
00:42:07,000 --> 00:42:10,000
Scoff 'em I say, boots and all!
00:42:10,120 --> 00:42:13,000
He's right.
00:42:13,000 --> 00:42:15,040
There's nothing wrong with a bit of raw dwarf.
00:42:18,000 --> 00:42:20,000
Nice and crunchy.
00:42:21,040 --> 00:42:24,000
Not, not that one!
He's infected!
00:42:24,000 --> 00:42:25,040
You what?
00:42:25,040 --> 00:42:28,090
Yeah, he's got worms in his...
00:42:28,090 --> 00:42:29,090
tubes!
00:42:32,090 --> 00:42:33,210
In fact, they all have.
00:42:33,210 --> 00:42:37,040
They're infested with parasites.
It's a terrible business. I wouldn't risk it.
00:42:37,040 --> 00:42:38,040
I really wouldn't.
00:42:38,040 --> 00:42:40,040
What would you have us do then?
00:42:40,040 --> 00:42:43,040
Let 'em all go?
00:42:43,040 --> 00:42:44,000
Well.
00:42:44,000 --> 00:42:46,210
You think I don't know what you're up to?
00:42:46,210 --> 00:42:51,070
This little ferret is taking us for fools.
00:42:51,070 --> 00:42:51,190
Ferret?
00:42:51,190 --> 00:42:52,190
Fools?
00:42:52,190 --> 00:42:56,190
The dawn will take you all!
00:42:57,040 --> 00:42:58,000
Who's that?
00:42:58,000 --> 00:42:59,040
No idea.
00:42:59,040 --> 00:43:01,000
Can we eat him too?
00:43:19,000 --> 00:43:22,000
Haha!
00:43:26,120 --> 00:43:29,090
Get your foot out of my back.
00:43:38,090 --> 00:43:40,210
Where did you go to, if I may ask?
00:43:40,210 --> 00:43:42,160
To look ahead.
00:43:42,160 --> 00:43:44,000
What brought you back?
00:43:44,000 --> 00:43:46,000
Looking behind.
00:43:47,000 --> 00:43:48,000
Nasty business.
00:43:48,040 --> 00:43:50,000
Still, they are all in one piece.
00:43:50,000 --> 00:43:52,000
No thanks to your burglar.
00:43:53,000 --> 00:43:56,020
He had the nerves to play for time.
00:43:56,020 --> 00:43:58,020
None of the rest of you thought of that.
00:44:01,000 --> 00:44:03,190
They must have come down from the Ettenmoors.
00:44:03,190 --> 00:44:06,090
Since when do mountain trolls venture this far south?
00:44:06,090 --> 00:44:08,090
Oh, not for an age.
00:44:09,140 --> 00:44:13,090
Not since a darker power ruled these lands.
00:44:18,160 --> 00:44:22,090
They could not have moved in daylight.
00:44:22,160 --> 00:44:24,140
There must be a cave nearby.
00:44:36,000 --> 00:44:38,140
Oh, what's that stench?
00:44:38,140 --> 00:44:40,140
It's a troll-hoard.
00:44:40,140 --> 00:44:43,140
Be careful what you touch.
00:44:50,120 --> 00:44:54,000
Seems a shame just to leave it lying around.
00:44:55,000 --> 00:44:57,000
Anyone could take it.
00:44:57,000 --> 00:45:01,120
Agreed. Nori, get a shovel.
00:45:18,140 --> 00:45:21,000
These swords were not made by any troll.
00:45:26,120 --> 00:45:30,120
Nor were they made by any smith among men.
00:45:35,000 --> 00:45:38,000
These were forged in Gondolin.
00:45:38,000 --> 00:45:41,000
By the high elves of the First Age!
00:45:41,000 --> 00:45:46,000
You could not wish for a finer blade.
00:46:11,000 --> 00:46:15,000
We're making a long-term deposit.
00:46:30,120 --> 00:46:32,000
Bilbo.
00:46:34,000 --> 00:46:37,000
Here. This is about your size.
00:46:43,000 --> 00:46:45,000
I can't take this.
00:46:45,000 --> 00:46:53,000
The blade is of elvish make, which means it will glow blue when orcs or goblins are nearby.
00:46:53,000 --> 00:46:56,000
I have never used a sword in my life.
00:46:56,000 --> 00:46:58,120
And I hope you never have to.
00:46:58,120 --> 00:47:01,120
And if you do, remember this:
00:47:01,120 --> 00:47:10,000
True courage is about knowing not when to take a life,
but when to spare one.
00:47:34,000 --> 00:47:35,120
Gandalf,
00:47:35,120 --> 00:47:36,160
where are we?
00:47:36,160 --> 00:47:38,040
You can feel it?
00:47:38,040 --> 00:47:39,090
Yes.
00:47:40,090 --> 00:47:44,120
It feels like...well, like magic.
00:47:44,120 --> 00:47:46,140
That's exactly what it is.
00:47:46,210 --> 00:47:49,070
A very powerful magic.
00:47:50,070 --> 00:47:53,070
There is light ahead.
00:48:33,070 --> 00:48:40,070
The Valley of Imladris. In the common tongue,
it's known by another name.
00:48:41,120 --> 00:48:43,070
Rivendell.
00:48:45,120 --> 00:48:49,120
Here lies the last homely house east of the sea.
00:48:52,000 --> 00:48:54,120
This was your plan all along,
00:48:54,120 --> 00:48:56,210
to seek refuge with our enemy.
00:48:56,210 --> 00:49:00,190
You have no enemies here, Thorin Oakenshield.
00:49:00,190 --> 00:49:04,190
The only ill-will to be found in this valley is that which you bring yourself.
00:49:05,120 --> 00:49:09,190
You think the Elves will give our quest their blessing?
00:49:10,040 --> 00:49:12,000
They will try to stop us.
00:49:12,000 --> 00:49:16,000
Of course they will, but we have questions that need to be answered.
00:49:18,220 --> 00:49:23,120
If we are to be successful, this will need to be handled with tact,
00:49:23,120 --> 00:49:24,190
and respect,
00:49:24,190 --> 00:49:26,190
and no small degree of charm,
00:49:27,190 --> 00:49:31,190
which is why you will leave the talking to me.
00:50:28,000 --> 00:50:30,000
Mithrandir.
00:50:30,000 --> 00:50:32,120
Ahh, Lindir.
00:50:33,120 --> 00:50:34,120
Stay sharp.
00:50:38,000 --> 00:50:40,120
I must speak with Lord Elrond.
00:50:40,120 --> 00:50:42,120
My Lord Elrond is not here.
00:50:42,190 --> 00:50:44,120
Not here?
00:50:45,000 --> 00:50:46,120
Where is he?
00:51:01,000 --> 00:51:03,000
Close ranks.
00:51:27,000 --> 00:51:28,000
Gandalf!
00:51:28,000 --> 00:51:30,000
Lord Elrond.
00:51:51,000 --> 00:51:54,000
Welcome, Thorin, son of Thrain.
00:51:54,160 --> 00:51:56,120
I do not believe we have met.
00:51:56,120 --> 00:52:00,120
You have your grandfather's bearing.
00:52:00,120 --> 00:52:03,000
I knew Thror when he ruled under the Mountain.
00:52:03,000 --> 00:52:07,120
Indeed? He made no mention of you.
00:52:18,000 --> 00:52:20,000
What is he saying?
00:52:20,000 --> 00:52:22,120
Does he offer us insult?
00:52:22,120 --> 00:52:27,120
No, master Gloin.
He's offering you food.
00:52:32,120 --> 00:52:37,120
Oh, well. In that case, lead on.
00:52:39,040 --> 00:52:42,000
Try it. Just a mouthful.
00:52:42,000 --> 00:52:44,070
I don't like green food.
00:52:44,070 --> 00:52:46,000
Where's the meat?
00:52:47,000 --> 00:52:49,000
Have they got any chips?
00:52:50,120 --> 00:52:52,040
Kind of you to invite us.
00:52:52,040 --> 00:52:54,070
I'm not really dressed for dinner.
00:52:54,070 --> 00:52:56,070
Well you never are.
00:53:16,020 --> 00:53:21,000
This is Orcrist, the Goblin-cleaver.
00:53:21,000 --> 00:53:25,120
A famous blade, forged by the high elves of the West.
00:53:25,120 --> 00:53:27,120
My kin.
00:53:27,230 --> 00:53:30,120
May it serve you well.
00:53:30,120 --> 00:53:35,120
And this is Glamdring, the Foe-hammer,
00:53:35,120 --> 00:53:38,000
sword of the King of Gondolin.
00:53:38,000 --> 00:53:41,000
These swords were made for the Goblin wars of the First…
00:53:41,000 --> 00:53:43,000
I wouldn’t bother, laddy.
00:53:43,000 --> 00:53:46,000
Swords are named for the great deeds they do in war.
00:53:46,000 --> 00:53:49,000
What are you saying? My sword hasn’t seen battles?
00:53:49,000 --> 00:53:51,070
I’m not actually sure it is a sword.
00:53:52,000 --> 00:53:54,070
More of a letter opener, really.
00:53:55,120 --> 00:53:57,120
How did you come by these?
00:53:57,120 --> 00:54:01,000
We found them in a troll hoard on the Great East Road.
00:54:01,000 --> 00:54:06,000
And what were you doing on the Great East Road?
00:54:06,000 --> 00:54:08,190
Our business is no concern of elves.
00:54:08,190 --> 00:54:12,000
For goodness sake, Thorin, show him the map.
00:54:12,000 --> 00:54:14,000
It is the legacy of my people.
00:54:14,000 --> 00:54:16,000
It is mine to protect.
00:54:16,000 --> 00:54:18,000
As are its secrets.
00:54:18,000 --> 00:54:20,120
Save me from the stubbornness of dwarves.
00:54:21,000 --> 00:54:24,000
Your pride will be your downfall.
00:54:24,000 --> 00:54:28,140
You stand here in the presence of one of the few in Middle-earth who can read that map.
00:54:28,140 --> 00:54:30,140
Show it to Lord Elrond.
00:54:38,000 --> 00:54:40,000
Thorin, no.
00:54:48,120 --> 00:54:50,000
Erebor.
00:54:52,000 --> 00:54:55,000
What is your interest in this map?
00:54:57,000 --> 00:54:59,000
It's mainly academic.
00:54:59,000 --> 00:55:04,000
As you know, this sort of artifact sometimes contains hidden text.
00:55:09,070 --> 00:55:14,000
You still read ancient dwarvish, do you not?
00:55:17,000 --> 00:55:19,120
Cirth ithil.
00:55:19,120 --> 00:55:21,210
Moon runes.
00:55:21,210 --> 00:55:26,210
Of course. An easy thing to miss.
00:55:26,210 --> 00:55:28,210
Well, in this case, that is true.
00:55:28,210 --> 00:55:33,210
Moon runes can only be read by the light of the moon of the same shape and season
00:55:33,210 --> 00:55:35,210
as the day on which they were written.
00:55:36,090 --> 00:55:38,070
Can you read them?
00:55:43,070 --> 00:55:46,070
These runes were written on a mid-summer's eve.
00:55:46,070 --> 00:55:48,090
by the light of a crescent moon,
00:55:48,090 --> 00:55:51,090
nearly 200 years ago.
00:55:51,090 --> 00:55:54,090
It would seem you were meant to come to Rivendell.
00:55:54,090 --> 00:55:57,000
Fate is with you, Thorin Oakenshield.
00:55:57,000 --> 00:56:01,000
The same moon shines upon us tonight.
00:56:19,120 --> 00:56:24,000
Stand by the gray stone when the thrush knocks,
00:56:24,000 --> 00:56:29,000
and the setting sun with the last light of Durin’s Day
00:56:29,000 --> 00:56:32,120
will shine upon the keyhole.
00:56:33,040 --> 00:56:34,070
Durin's Day?
00:56:34,070 --> 00:56:36,070
It is the start of the dwarves' New Year,
00:56:36,070 --> 00:56:40,210
when the last moon of autumn and the first sun of winter appear in the sky together.
00:56:40,210 --> 00:56:42,210
This is ill news.
00:56:42,210 --> 00:56:45,210
Summer is passing, Durin’s Day will soon be upon us.
00:56:45,210 --> 00:56:47,000
We still have time.
00:56:47,000 --> 00:56:48,000
Time for what?
00:56:48,000 --> 00:56:50,000
To find the entrance.
00:56:50,000 --> 00:56:52,000
We have to be standing at exactly the right spot,
00:56:52,000 --> 00:56:53,120
at exactly the right time.
00:56:53,120 --> 00:56:57,120
Then, and only then, can the door be opened.
00:56:57,120 --> 00:56:59,120
So this is your purpose?
00:56:59,120 --> 00:57:01,120
To enter the Mountain?
00:57:01,230 --> 00:57:03,120
What of it?
00:57:03,120 --> 00:57:07,120
There are some who would not deem it wise.
00:57:08,000 --> 00:57:09,160
What do you mean?
00:57:10,190 --> 00:57:14,160
You are not the only guardian to stand watch over Middle-earth.
00:57:30,000 --> 00:57:32,000
Dori, here!
00:57:38,000 --> 00:57:39,000
Bombur!
00:57:56,000 --> 00:57:58,120
Of course I was going to tell you.
00:57:58,120 --> 00:58:00,120
I was waiting for this very chance.
00:58:00,120 --> 00:58:03,120
And really, I – I think you can trust that I know what I am doing.
00:58:03,120 --> 00:58:05,040
Do you?
00:58:05,040 --> 00:58:07,190
That dragon has slept for sixty years.
00:58:07,190 --> 00:58:10,190
What will happen if your plan should fail?
00:58:10,190 --> 00:58:12,040
If you wake that beast?
00:58:12,040 --> 00:58:14,000
But if we succeed!
00:58:14,000 --> 00:58:16,000
If the dwarves take back the mountain,
00:58:16,000 --> 00:58:18,070
then our defenses in the east will be strengthened.
00:58:18,070 --> 00:58:21,070
It is a dangerous move, Gandalf.
00:58:21,070 --> 00:58:22,210
It is also dangerous to do nothing!
00:58:22,210 --> 00:58:27,090
Oh, come – the throne of Erebor is Thorin’s birthright!
What is it you fear?
00:58:27,090 --> 00:58:33,000
Have you forgotten? A strain of madness runs deep in that family.
00:58:33,000 --> 00:58:34,120
His grandfather lost his mind.
00:58:34,120 --> 00:58:36,190
His father succumbed to the same sickness.
00:58:37,000 --> 00:58:41,190
Can you swear Thorin Oakenshield will not also fall?
00:58:45,000 --> 00:58:48,000
Gandalf, these decisions do not rest with us alone.
00:58:48,160 --> 00:58:52,000
It is not up to you or me to redraw the map of Middle-earth.
00:58:53,000 --> 00:58:57,120
With or without our help, these dwarves will march on the Mountain.
00:58:57,120 --> 00:59:00,120
They are determined to reclaim their homeland.
00:59:00,120 --> 00:59:06,000
I do not believe Thorin Oakenshield feels that he's answerable to anyone.
00:59:30,120 --> 00:59:33,120
Not with your companions?
00:59:34,000 --> 00:59:37,120
Ah, I shan’t be missed.
00:59:40,000 --> 00:59:44,120
The truth is most of them don’t think I should be on this journey.
00:59:44,230 --> 00:59:46,160
Indeed?
00:59:47,160 --> 00:59:51,000
I’ve heard that hobbits are very resilient.
00:59:54,000 --> 00:59:55,090
Really?
00:59:56,090 --> 00:59:57,090
Mmm.
01:00:01,090 --> 01:00:05,090
I’ve also heard they’re fond of the comforts of home.
01:00:09,120 --> 01:00:12,160
And I’ve heard that it’s unwise to seek the counsel of elves,
01:00:12,160 --> 01:00:14,160
for they will answer both yes and no.
01:00:24,000 --> 01:00:28,000
You are very welcome to stay here, if that is your wish.
01:00:37,000 --> 01:00:42,120
Be on your guard. We are about to step over the edge of the wild.
01:00:42,120 --> 01:00:44,040
Balin, you know these paths.
01:00:44,040 --> 01:00:46,000
Lead on.
01:00:52,000 --> 01:00:54,000
Master Baggins.
01:00:54,000 --> 01:00:56,000
I suggest you keep up.
01:02:20,000 --> 01:02:22,000
Hold on.
01:02:35,120 --> 01:02:38,000
Get him!
01:02:39,000 --> 01:02:40,070
Grab my hand!
01:02:40,070 --> 01:02:42,070
Bilbo!
01:03:06,070 --> 01:03:09,000
I thought we lost our burglar.
01:03:09,000 --> 01:03:12,000
He's been lost ever since he left home.
01:03:12,120 --> 01:03:14,040
He should never have come.
01:03:14,040 --> 01:03:16,040
He has no place amongst us.
01:03:18,000 --> 01:03:19,040
Dwalin.
01:03:26,000 --> 01:03:27,090
It looks safe enough.
01:03:27,090 --> 01:03:29,020
Search to the back.
01:03:29,020 --> 01:03:31,020
Caves in the mountains are seldom unoccupied.
01:03:34,120 --> 01:03:36,120
There's nothing here.
01:03:39,000 --> 01:03:41,120
Right then, let's get a fire started.
01:03:41,120 --> 01:03:43,120
No, no fires. Not in this place.
01:03:44,120 --> 01:03:45,120
Get some sleep.
01:03:46,120 --> 01:03:48,120
We start at first light.
01:03:48,120 --> 01:03:54,120
We were to wait in the mountains until Gandalf joined us.
That was the plan.
01:03:54,120 --> 01:03:56,020
Plans change.
01:03:56,020 --> 01:03:59,210
Bofur, take the first watch.
01:04:48,160 --> 01:04:50,160
Where do you think you're going?
01:04:53,040 --> 01:04:55,040
Back to Rivendell.
01:04:56,000 --> 01:04:57,070
No, no.
01:04:57,070 --> 01:04:59,160
You can't turn back now.
You're part of the company.
01:04:59,160 --> 01:05:01,160
You're one of us.
01:05:01,160 --> 01:05:03,160
I'm not though, am I?
01:05:05,000 --> 01:05:07,160
Thorin said I should never have come, and he was right.
01:05:08,000 --> 01:05:10,000
I'm not a Took. I'm a Baggins.
01:05:10,000 --> 01:05:12,000
I don't know what I was thinking.
01:05:13,210 --> 01:05:15,000
I should never have run out my door.
01:05:15,000 --> 01:05:17,000
You're homesick.
01:05:17,000 --> 01:05:18,000
I understand.
01:05:18,000 --> 01:05:20,000
No, you don't! You don't understand.
01:05:20,000 --> 01:05:22,000
None of you do. You're dwarves!
01:05:22,000 --> 01:05:24,000
You're used to this life.
01:05:24,000 --> 01:05:26,040
To living on the road, never settling in one place.
01:05:26,040 --> 01:05:28,000
Not belonging anywhere.
01:05:31,000 --> 01:05:34,120
I'm sorry. I didn't...
01:05:38,120 --> 01:05:41,120
No, you're right.
01:05:43,000 --> 01:05:45,120
We don't belong anywhere.
01:05:53,000 --> 01:05:57,000
I wish you all the luck in the world.
01:05:59,000 --> 01:06:02,000
I really do.
01:06:05,000 --> 01:06:07,000
What's that?
01:06:28,040 --> 01:06:29,160
Wake up.
01:06:29,160 --> 01:06:31,160
Wake up!
01:06:43,090 --> 01:06:45,040
Look out!
01:07:12,000 --> 01:07:14,000
Alright, alright!
01:07:17,000 --> 01:07:19,120
Get off. Get your hands off me!
01:09:08,120 --> 01:09:14,120
Who would be so bold as to come armed into my kingdom?
01:09:14,120 --> 01:09:16,190
Spies? Thieves?
01:09:17,000 --> 01:09:18,090
Assassins?
01:09:18,090 --> 01:09:20,020
Dwarves, your malevolence.
01:09:20,020 --> 01:09:22,020
Dwarves?
01:09:22,020 --> 01:09:24,000
We found them on the front porch.
01:09:24,000 --> 01:09:26,000
Well, don't just stand there.
01:09:26,000 --> 01:09:28,000
Search them.
01:09:29,000 --> 01:09:32,000
Every crack. Every crevice.
01:09:36,120 --> 01:09:39,000
What are you doing in these parts?
01:09:40,040 --> 01:09:41,120
Speak!
01:09:44,000 --> 01:09:47,000
Very well. If they will not talk,
01:09:47,000 --> 01:09:49,120
we'll make them squawk!
01:09:49,120 --> 01:09:51,120
Bring up the mangler!
01:09:51,120 --> 01:09:54,000
Bring up the bone breaker.
01:09:54,120 --> 01:09:56,090
Start with the youngest.
01:09:56,090 --> 01:09:58,090
Wait!
01:10:00,000 --> 01:10:03,090
Well, well, well.
01:10:03,090 --> 01:10:05,090
Look who it is.
01:10:05,190 --> 01:10:10,090
Thorin, son of Thrain, son of Thror.
01:10:10,090 --> 01:10:14,090
King under the Mountain.
01:10:15,070 --> 01:10:19,090
Oh, but I'm forgetting.
You don't have a mountain.
01:10:19,090 --> 01:10:21,000
And you're not a king,
01:10:21,000 --> 01:10:26,000
which makes you nobody really.
01:10:28,120 --> 01:10:34,000
I know someone who would pay a pretty price for your head.
01:10:34,000 --> 01:10:36,000
Just the head.
01:10:36,000 --> 01:10:38,000
Nothing attached.
01:10:39,040 --> 01:10:42,000
Perhaps you know of whom I speak?
01:10:43,000 --> 01:10:46,000
An old enemy of yours.
01:10:48,120 --> 01:10:53,000
A pale orc astride a white warg.
01:10:54,020 --> 01:10:59,000
Azog the Defiler was destroyed.
01:11:00,000 --> 01:11:03,000
He was slain in battle long ago.
01:11:03,000 --> 01:11:08,000
So you think his defiling days are done, do you?
01:11:08,120 --> 01:11:11,040
Send word to the pale orc.
01:11:11,040 --> 01:11:14,040
Tell him I have found his prize.
01:11:53,120 --> 01:11:58,140
Too many boneses precious. Not enough flesh!
01:11:58,140 --> 01:12:02,140
Shut up! Cut it's skin off.
01:12:03,000 --> 01:12:04,190
Start with its head.
01:12:10,160 --> 01:12:14,070
The cold, hard lands,
They bites our hands,
01:12:14,070 --> 01:12:17,190
They gnaws our feet!
01:12:17,190 --> 01:12:19,210
The rocks and stones,
01:12:19,210 --> 01:12:23,180
they're like old bones, all bare of meat.
01:12:23,230 --> 01:12:30,130
Cold as death, they have no breath, it's good to eat!
01:13:08,130 --> 01:13:15,130
Bless us and splash us, precious! That's a meaty mouthful.
01:13:17,130 --> 01:13:19,130
Gollum. Gollum!
01:13:21,000 --> 01:13:24,010
Back. Stay back.
01:13:24,010 --> 01:13:25,190
I'm warning you.
01:13:25,190 --> 01:13:27,190
Don't come any closer.
01:13:29,000 --> 01:13:33,120
It's got an elfish blade, but it's not an elfs.
01:13:34,120 --> 01:13:39,120
Not an elfs, no. What is it, precious?
01:13:39,120 --> 01:13:41,120
What is it?
01:13:41,120 --> 01:13:45,120
My name is Bilbo Baggins.
01:13:46,000 --> 01:13:48,000
Bagginses?
01:13:49,000 --> 01:13:53,000
What is a Bagginses, precious?
01:13:53,000 --> 01:13:56,000
I'm a hobbit from the Shire.
01:13:56,000 --> 01:14:00,000
Oh, we like goblinses, batses, and fishes,
01:14:00,000 --> 01:14:03,190
but we hasn't tried hobbitses before!
01:14:03,190 --> 01:14:05,120
Is it soft?
01:14:05,120 --> 01:14:07,000
Is it juicy?
01:14:07,000 --> 01:14:11,000
Now. Ke-Keep your distance!
01:14:11,000 --> 01:14:13,000
I'll use this, if I have to!
01:14:14,000 --> 01:14:17,000
I don't want any trouble! You understand?
01:14:17,000 --> 01:14:19,000
Just show me the way to get out of here,
01:14:19,000 --> 01:14:20,120
and I'll be on my way.
01:14:20,120 --> 01:14:22,120
Why? Is it lost?
01:14:22,120 --> 01:14:26,040
Yes. Yes, and I want to get unlost as soon as possible.
01:14:26,040 --> 01:14:29,160
Oh, we knows! We knows safe paths for hobbitses.
01:14:29,160 --> 01:14:31,160
Safe paths in the dark.
01:14:31,160 --> 01:14:32,160
Shut up!
01:14:32,160 --> 01:14:34,000
I didn't say anything.
01:14:34,000 --> 01:14:36,000
We wasn't talking to you!
01:14:36,000 --> 01:14:39,020
Well yes, we was, precious. We was.
01:14:39,060 --> 01:14:42,120
Look, I don't know what your game is...
01:14:42,120 --> 01:14:44,120
Games!?
01:14:44,120 --> 01:14:47,120
Oh, we love games, doesn't we, precious?
01:14:47,120 --> 01:14:49,120
Does it like games? Does it?
Does it?
01:14:49,120 --> 01:14:51,120
Does it like to play?
01:14:52,120 --> 01:14:53,190
Maybe?
01:14:55,190 --> 01:15:03,000
What has roots as nobody sees,
is taller than trees,
01:15:03,000 --> 01:15:08,120
up-up-up it goes,
and yet, never grows?
01:15:09,120 --> 01:15:10,160
The mountain.
01:15:10,160 --> 01:15:12,160
Yes, yes.
01:15:12,160 --> 01:15:16,000
Oh let's have another one, eh?
01:15:16,000 --> 01:15:19,160
Yes. Go on. Do it again.
Do, do it again, ask us!
01:15:19,160 --> 01:15:21,160
No, no more riddles!
01:15:23,000 --> 01:15:26,000
Finish him off. Finish him now!
01:15:26,000 --> 01:15:28,000
Gollum. Gollum.
01:15:28,000 --> 01:15:32,000
No! No, no, no. I want to play.
01:15:32,000 --> 01:15:34,000
I do. I want to play.
01:15:34,000 --> 01:15:39,000
I can see you are very good at this.
01:15:39,120 --> 01:15:45,160
So, why don't we have a game of riddles?
01:15:45,160 --> 01:15:47,160
Yes, just you and me.
01:15:47,210 --> 01:15:49,160
Yes!
01:15:49,210 --> 01:15:53,000
Yes! Just, just us.
01:15:53,000 --> 01:15:55,000
Yes, yes.
01:15:55,000 --> 01:15:57,000
And if I win,
01:15:57,000 --> 01:16:00,120
you show me the way out. Yes?
01:16:00,120 --> 01:16:02,040
Yes! Yes.
01:16:03,040 --> 01:16:04,120
And if it loses?
01:16:04,120 --> 01:16:06,040
What then?
01:16:06,040 --> 01:16:11,040
Well, if it loses, precious,
then we eats it!
01:16:11,040 --> 01:16:15,040
If Baggins loses, we eats it whole.
01:16:21,000 --> 01:16:22,120
Fair enough.
01:16:27,000 --> 01:16:30,120
Well, Baggins first.
01:16:35,000 --> 01:16:39,000
Thirty white horses on a red hill.
01:16:39,000 --> 01:16:43,120
First they champ. Then they stamp.
Then they stand still.
01:16:54,000 --> 01:16:55,120
Teeth?
01:16:56,120 --> 01:16:58,000
Teeth!
01:16:59,000 --> 01:17:01,040
Yes, my precious,
01:17:01,040 --> 01:17:02,120
but we...
01:17:02,120 --> 01:17:06,120
we only have nine.
01:17:09,120 --> 01:17:11,120
Our turn.
01:17:12,120 --> 01:17:15,120
Voiceless, it cries.
01:17:15,120 --> 01:17:18,040
Wingless, flutters.
01:17:18,040 --> 01:17:22,000
Toothless, bites.
01:17:22,000 --> 01:17:25,040
Mouthless, mutters.
01:17:28,000 --> 01:17:30,000
Just a minute.
01:17:32,000 --> 01:17:35,070
Oh, oh! We knows! We knows!
01:17:35,070 --> 01:17:37,000
Shut up!
01:17:42,120 --> 01:17:44,000
Wind.
01:17:44,090 --> 01:17:45,160
It's wind.
01:17:45,160 --> 01:17:46,210
Of course it is.
01:17:46,210 --> 01:17:52,040
Very clever, hobbitses. Very clever!
01:17:53,120 --> 01:17:58,120
A box without hinges, key, or lid,
01:17:58,120 --> 01:18:02,120
yet golden treasure inside is hid.
01:18:09,070 --> 01:18:11,120
box...lid...and a key.
01:18:11,120 --> 01:18:12,120
Well?
01:18:12,120 --> 01:18:14,120
It's nasty!
01:18:16,120 --> 01:18:18,120
box...key.
01:18:18,120 --> 01:18:19,120
Do you give up?
01:18:19,120 --> 01:18:23,120
Give us a chance, precious. Give us a chance!
01:18:35,120 --> 01:18:37,120
Eggses!
01:18:37,230 --> 01:18:39,040
Eggses!
01:18:39,040 --> 01:18:43,040
Wet, crunchy little eggses. Yes.
01:18:43,040 --> 01:18:48,040
Grandmother taught us to suck them, yes!
01:18:55,160 --> 01:18:58,090
We have one for you.
01:19:00,090 --> 01:19:03,000
All things it devours.
01:19:03,070 --> 01:19:08,090
Birds, beasts, trees, flowers.
01:19:09,090 --> 01:19:16,090
Gnaws at iron, bites at steel,
grinds hard stones to meal.
01:19:19,000 --> 01:19:20,120
Answer us.
01:19:20,120 --> 01:19:22,120
Give me a moment, please.
01:19:22,120 --> 01:19:23,000
I gave you a good long while.
Give me a moment, please.
01:19:23,000 --> 01:19:24,120
I gave you a good long while.
01:19:25,120 --> 01:19:27,160
Birds, beasts. Beasts?
01:19:27,160 --> 01:19:28,200
Trees, flowers.
01:19:28,200 --> 01:19:30,200
I don't know this one.
01:19:30,200 --> 01:19:33,200
Is it tasty?
01:19:34,000 --> 01:19:37,200
Is it scrumptious?
01:19:38,010 --> 01:19:41,000
Is it crunchable?
01:19:41,000 --> 01:19:43,000
Let me think! Let me think.
01:19:48,120 --> 01:19:50,120
It's stuck.
01:19:51,120 --> 01:19:55,120
Bagginses is stuck.
01:19:59,120 --> 01:20:01,120
Time's up.
01:20:05,000 --> 01:20:06,120
Time.
01:20:06,120 --> 01:20:10,000
The answer is time.
01:20:12,000 --> 01:20:14,000
Actually it wasn't that hard.
01:20:15,040 --> 01:20:18,000
Last question.
01:20:19,000 --> 01:20:20,140
Last chance.
01:20:20,140 --> 01:20:22,140
Okay.
01:20:24,140 --> 01:20:26,000
Ask us.
01:20:28,000 --> 01:20:29,120
Ask us!
01:20:29,120 --> 01:20:31,120
Yes. Yes, alright.
01:20:35,000 --> 01:20:40,000
What have I got in my pocket?
01:20:42,000 --> 01:20:45,000
Well that's not fair.
01:20:45,000 --> 01:20:46,120
It's not fair!
01:20:46,120 --> 01:20:48,120
It's against the rules!
01:20:49,160 --> 01:20:52,070
No, ask us another one!
01:20:52,070 --> 01:20:55,070
No, no, no. You said ask me a question.
01:20:55,070 --> 01:20:57,120
Well, that is my question.
01:20:57,120 --> 01:21:00,120
What have I got in my pocket?
01:21:01,160 --> 01:21:04,210
Three guesses, precious.
It must give us three!
01:21:04,210 --> 01:21:06,160
Three guesses. Very well, then.
01:21:06,160 --> 01:21:07,040
Guess away.
01:21:07,040 --> 01:21:09,000
Handses!
01:21:09,000 --> 01:21:11,000
Wrong. Guess again.
01:21:12,000 --> 01:21:16,120
Fishbones, goblin's teeth, wet shells, bat's wings...
01:21:18,210 --> 01:21:20,000
Knife!
01:21:20,000 --> 01:21:20,230
Oh, shut up!
01:21:20,230 --> 01:21:22,230
Wrong again. Last guess.
01:21:22,230 --> 01:21:24,230
String!
01:21:24,230 --> 01:21:26,060
or nothing!
01:21:26,060 --> 01:21:30,060
Two guesses at once. Wrong both times.
01:21:36,060 --> 01:21:39,090
Come on, then. I won the game.
You promised to show me the way out.
01:21:40,090 --> 01:21:43,090
Did we say so, precious?
01:21:43,090 --> 01:21:47,090
Did we say so?
01:21:49,160 --> 01:21:54,160
What has it got in its pocketses?
01:21:55,120 --> 01:21:56,230
That's no concern of yours.
01:21:57,060 --> 01:22:00,000
You lost.
01:22:00,000 --> 01:22:02,000
Lost?
01:22:03,210 --> 01:22:06,000
Lost?
01:22:07,000 --> 01:22:08,000
Lost?
01:22:14,120 --> 01:22:17,120
Where is it?
01:22:17,120 --> 01:22:19,120
Where is it?!
01:22:20,120 --> 01:22:21,120
No!
01:22:23,160 --> 01:22:25,040
Where is it?
01:22:25,040 --> 01:22:27,160
No! No!
01:22:29,120 --> 01:22:31,000
Lost!
01:22:31,000 --> 01:22:33,120
Curse us and splash us!
01:22:34,000 --> 01:22:37,120
My precious is lost!
01:22:39,120 --> 01:22:40,120
What have you lost?
01:22:40,120 --> 01:22:43,120
Mustn't ask us. Not its business!
01:22:44,120 --> 01:22:45,120
No!
01:22:45,120 --> 01:22:47,190
Gollum. Gollum.
01:23:00,120 --> 01:23:10,160
What has it got in its nasty little pocketses?
01:23:20,120 --> 01:23:25,160
He stole it. He stole it!
01:23:29,160 --> 01:23:31,000
He stole it!
01:23:36,160 --> 01:23:39,070
Bones will be shattered.
01:23:39,070 --> 01:23:40,120
Necks will be wrung!
01:23:40,120 --> 01:23:42,160
You'll be beaten and battered,
01:23:42,160 --> 01:23:44,160
from racks you'll be hung!
01:23:44,160 --> 01:23:48,120
You will die down here and never be found,
01:23:48,120 --> 01:23:52,120
down in the deep of Goblin Town!
01:23:55,150 --> 01:23:57,190
I know that sword!
01:23:57,190 --> 01:23:59,190
It is the Goblin Cleaver!
01:24:00,190 --> 01:24:01,220
The Biter!
01:24:01,220 --> 01:24:05,130
The blade that sliced a thousand necks!
01:24:05,130 --> 01:24:08,130
Slash them! Beat them!
01:24:08,130 --> 01:24:10,220
Kill them! Kill them all!
01:24:11,130 --> 01:24:13,060
Cut off his head!
01:24:43,060 --> 01:24:45,060
Take up arms.
01:24:45,200 --> 01:24:47,060
Fight.
01:24:49,000 --> 01:24:51,000
Fight!
01:24:56,160 --> 01:24:59,040
He wields the Foe-Hammer!
01:24:59,040 --> 01:25:02,070
The Beater! Bright as daylight!
01:25:11,140 --> 01:25:12,120
Thorin!
01:25:19,120 --> 01:25:21,120
Follow me.
01:25:21,120 --> 01:25:23,000
Quick!
01:25:25,090 --> 01:25:27,000
Run!
01:25:35,070 --> 01:25:37,070
Give it to us!
01:25:57,000 --> 01:25:59,120
It's ours.
01:25:59,190 --> 01:26:02,120
It's ours!
01:26:27,000 --> 01:26:29,120
Thief!
01:26:30,160 --> 01:26:32,160
Baggins!
01:26:39,210 --> 01:26:41,120
Quickly!
01:26:43,000 --> 01:26:44,120
Faster!
01:27:54,000 --> 01:27:56,000
Wait!
01:27:56,000 --> 01:27:58,000
Gollum. Gollum.
01:29:45,040 --> 01:29:47,000
Baggins!
01:29:48,000 --> 01:29:49,090
Thief!
01:29:50,090 --> 01:29:52,090
Curse it and crush it.
01:29:52,090 --> 01:29:55,090
We hates it forever!
01:30:07,140 --> 01:30:11,140
Five, six, seven, eight...
01:30:11,140 --> 01:30:13,190
Bifur, Bofur...that’s ten...
01:30:13,190 --> 01:30:16,000
Fili, Kili...that’s twelve...
01:30:16,120 --> 01:30:19,140
and Bombur. That makes thirteen.
01:30:20,000 --> 01:30:21,140
Where’s Bilbo?
01:30:21,140 --> 01:30:24,140
Where is our hobbit?
01:30:26,000 --> 01:30:28,140
Where is our hobbit?!
01:30:28,140 --> 01:30:32,020
Curse the halfling! Now he’s lost?!
01:30:32,020 --> 01:30:34,000
I thought he was with Dori!
01:30:34,000 --> 01:30:35,070
Don’t blame me!
01:30:35,070 --> 01:30:37,070
Well, where did you last see him?
01:30:37,070 --> 01:30:40,000
I think I saw him slip away, when they first collared us.
01:30:40,000 --> 01:30:42,090
And what happened exactly?
Tell me!
01:30:42,090 --> 01:30:43,210
I’ll tell you what happened.
01:30:43,210 --> 01:30:46,000
Master Baggins saw his chance and he took it!
01:30:47,000 --> 01:30:53,000
He’s thought of nothing but his soft bed and his warm hearth
since first he stepped out of his door!
01:30:53,000 --> 01:30:55,120
We will not be seeing our hobbit again.
01:30:55,120 --> 01:30:57,160
He is long gone.
01:31:09,120 --> 01:31:12,190
No, he isn’t.
01:31:16,190 --> 01:31:18,190
Bilbo Baggins!
01:31:19,000 --> 01:31:21,190
I’ve never been so glad to see anyone in my life!
01:31:24,000 --> 01:31:26,070
Bilbo! We’d given you up!
01:31:26,070 --> 01:31:28,030
How on earth did you get past the goblins?
01:31:28,030 --> 01:31:30,030
How, indeed.
01:31:38,000 --> 01:31:40,120
Well, what does it matter?
01:31:40,200 --> 01:31:42,120
He’s back!
01:31:42,200 --> 01:31:46,120
It matters! I want to know.
01:31:46,230 --> 01:31:49,120
Why did you come back?
01:31:52,120 --> 01:31:56,000
Look, I know you doubt me. I know you always have.
01:31:57,140 --> 01:32:00,000
And you’re right, I often think of Bag End.
01:32:01,000 --> 01:32:02,120
I miss my books.
01:32:02,120 --> 01:32:06,120
And my armchair.
And my garden.
01:32:07,120 --> 01:32:09,120
See, that’s where I belong.
01:32:09,120 --> 01:32:11,120
That’s home.
01:32:13,120 --> 01:32:16,210
And that’s why I came back, 'cause...
01:32:17,070 --> 01:32:19,070
you don’t have one.
01:32:19,070 --> 01:32:21,070
A home.
01:32:21,070 --> 01:32:23,070
It was taken from you.
01:32:25,160 --> 01:32:28,120
But I will help you take it back if I can.
01:33:02,000 --> 01:33:03,070
Out of the frying pan...
01:33:03,070 --> 01:33:05,070
...and into the fire!
01:33:05,070 --> 01:33:07,120
Run. Run!
01:33:40,000 --> 01:33:42,000
Up into the trees. All of you!
01:33:42,000 --> 01:33:43,040
Come on, climb!
01:33:43,040 --> 01:33:44,040
Bilbo, climb!
01:33:49,190 --> 01:33:51,120
They’re coming!
01:34:46,120 --> 01:34:48,120
Azog?!
01:36:21,120 --> 01:36:23,000
Fili!
01:37:01,000 --> 01:37:03,000
Aahhh! No!
01:37:05,000 --> 01:37:07,000
Oh! Oh no!
01:37:12,000 --> 01:37:14,000
Mister Gandalf!
01:37:19,120 --> 01:37:21,120
Hold on, Ori!
01:38:34,120 --> 01:38:40,120
There is a house, not far from here, where we might take refuge.
01:38:40,120 --> 01:38:42,120
His name is Beorn.
01:38:42,190 --> 01:38:44,190
He is a skin-changer.
01:38:45,120 --> 01:38:50,040
Sometimes he’s a huge black bear,
sometimes he’s a great strong man.
01:38:50,090 --> 01:38:52,090
The bear is unpredictable,
01:38:52,090 --> 01:38:54,120
but the man can be reasoned with.
01:38:54,120 --> 01:38:58,120
However, he is not overfond of dwarves.
01:40:25,000 --> 01:40:29,000
So you are the one they call Oakenshield.
01:40:29,040 --> 01:40:34,120
Tell me, why is Azog the Defiler hunting you?
01:40:34,120 --> 01:40:38,020
You know of Azog? How?
01:40:38,020 --> 01:40:41,020
My people were the first to live in the mountains,
01:40:41,020 --> 01:40:45,020
before the orcs came down from the north.
01:40:45,120 --> 01:40:49,020
The Defiler killed most of my family,
01:40:49,020 --> 01:40:51,160
but some he enslaved.
01:40:51,160 --> 01:40:54,160
Not for work, you understand,
01:40:54,160 --> 01:40:56,160
but for sport.
01:40:57,160 --> 01:41:03,160
Caging skin-changers and torturing them seemed to amuse him.
01:41:04,000 --> 01:41:05,190
There are others like you?
01:41:06,190 --> 01:41:09,190
Once, there were many.
01:41:09,190 --> 01:41:11,190
And now?
01:41:12,120 --> 01:41:14,190
Now, there is only one.
01:41:16,210 --> 01:41:21,120
You need to reach the mountain before the last days of autumn?
01:41:21,120 --> 01:41:24,120
Before Durin’s Day falls, yes.
01:41:24,120 --> 01:41:26,190
You are running out of time.
01:41:26,190 --> 01:41:29,040
Which is why we must go through Mirkwood.
01:41:29,040 --> 01:41:31,210
A darkness lies upon that forest.
01:41:31,210 --> 01:41:35,120
Fell things creep beneath those trees.
01:41:35,120 --> 01:41:42,000
There is an alliance between the orcs of Moria
and the Necromancer in Dol Guldur.
01:41:42,000 --> 01:41:46,090
I would not venture there except in great need.
01:41:46,090 --> 01:41:50,090
We will take the Elven Road.
That path is still safe.
01:41:50,090 --> 01:41:54,140
Safe? The wood elves of Mirkwood are not like their kin.
01:41:54,140 --> 01:41:58,000
They’re less wise and more dangerous.
01:42:00,000 --> 01:42:03,000
But it matters not.
01:42:03,040 --> 01:42:05,090
What do you mean?
01:42:05,090 --> 01:42:07,140
These lands are crawling with orcs.
01:42:07,140 --> 01:42:11,000
Their numbers are growing,
01:42:11,000 --> 01:42:13,000
and you are on foot.
01:42:13,000 --> 01:42:17,000
You will never reach the forest alive.
01:42:21,120 --> 01:42:24,000
I don’t like dwarves.
01:42:24,000 --> 01:42:28,120
They’re greedy and blind,
01:42:28,120 --> 01:42:34,120
blind to the lives of those they deem lesser than their own.
01:42:40,120 --> 01:42:44,000
But orcs I hate more.
01:42:44,120 --> 01:42:46,040
What do you need?
01:42:51,120 --> 01:42:54,120
Go now, while you have the light.
01:42:55,120 --> 01:42:57,120
Your hunters are not far behind.
01:43:21,070 --> 01:43:23,120
The Elven Gate.
01:43:25,000 --> 01:43:27,120
Here lies our path through Mirkwood.
01:43:28,000 --> 01:43:29,120
No sign of the orcs.
01:43:29,120 --> 01:43:31,190
We have luck on our side.
01:43:38,070 --> 01:43:40,070
Set the ponies loose.
01:43:40,190 --> 01:43:43,120
Let them return to their master.
01:43:45,190 --> 01:43:49,160
This forest feels...sick,
01:43:50,000 --> 01:43:53,160
as if a disease lies upon it.
01:43:55,000 --> 01:43:56,160
Is there no way around?
01:43:56,160 --> 01:43:59,160
Not unless we go two hundred miles north,
01:43:59,160 --> 01:44:03,160
or twice that distance south.
01:44:25,000 --> 01:44:32,000
There is an alliance between the orcs of Moria
and the Necromancer in Dol Guldur.
01:44:45,000 --> 01:44:47,120
Not my horse. I need it!
01:44:48,190 --> 01:44:50,070
You’re not leaving us?
01:44:50,070 --> 01:44:52,070
I would not do this unless I had to.
01:44:58,120 --> 01:45:02,120
You’ve changed, Bilbo Baggins.
01:45:02,120 --> 01:45:07,120
You’re not the same hobbit as the one who left the Shire.
01:45:09,140 --> 01:45:12,140
I was going to tell you,
01:45:14,140 --> 01:45:17,140
I...
01:45:18,160 --> 01:45:21,000
found something in the goblin tunnels.
01:45:21,000 --> 01:45:23,000
Found what?
01:45:27,000 --> 01:45:29,000
What did you find?
01:45:32,040 --> 01:45:34,000
My courage.
01:45:36,000 --> 01:45:40,000
Good. Well, that’s good.
01:45:41,000 --> 01:45:43,000
You’ll need it.
01:45:43,160 --> 01:45:45,120
I’ll be waiting for you at the overlook,
01:45:45,120 --> 01:45:47,120
before the slopes of Erebor.
01:45:47,120 --> 01:45:49,120
Keep the map and key safe.
01:45:50,000 --> 01:45:53,120
Do not enter that mountain without me.
01:45:59,000 --> 01:46:02,120
This is not the Greenwood of old.
01:46:02,120 --> 01:46:05,210
The very air of the forest is heavy with illusion.
01:46:06,020 --> 01:46:09,120
It will seek to enter your mind and lead you astray.
01:46:09,120 --> 01:46:11,120
Lead us astray?
01:46:11,120 --> 01:46:13,120
What does that mean?
01:46:13,120 --> 01:46:15,160
You must stay on the path.
01:46:15,160 --> 01:46:16,160
Do not leave it.
01:46:16,160 --> 01:46:20,160
If you do, you will never find it again.
01:46:22,000 --> 01:46:24,120
No matter what may come, stay on the path!
01:46:24,120 --> 01:46:25,040
Come on.
01:46:25,040 --> 01:46:28,040
We must reach the mountain before the sun sets on Durin’s Day.
01:46:28,040 --> 01:46:29,070
Durin’s Day. Let’s go!
01:46:29,070 --> 01:46:32,090
This is our one chance to find the hidden door.
01:46:42,120 --> 01:46:44,120
The path turns this way.
01:47:10,120 --> 01:47:11,120
This way.
01:47:19,190 --> 01:47:22,160
Air. I need air.
01:47:23,160 --> 01:47:26,000
My head, it’s spinning.
01:47:26,000 --> 01:47:27,000
What’s happening?
01:47:27,000 --> 01:47:29,000
Keep moving.
01:47:29,000 --> 01:47:32,160
Nori, why have we stopped?
01:47:32,160 --> 01:47:35,070
The path...it’s disappeared!
01:47:35,140 --> 01:47:37,140
What’s going on?
01:47:37,140 --> 01:47:39,140
We’ve lost the path!
01:47:39,160 --> 01:47:43,210
Find it. All of you, look.
Look for the path!
01:47:53,000 --> 01:47:56,000
I don’t remember this place before.
01:47:56,000 --> 01:47:58,000
None of it’s familiar.
01:47:58,000 --> 01:48:00,000
It’s got to be here.
01:48:00,000 --> 01:48:02,000
What hour is it?
01:48:02,000 --> 01:48:03,120
I do not know.
01:48:03,120 --> 01:48:05,120
I don’t even know what day it is.
01:48:05,190 --> 01:48:08,230
Is there no end to this accursed place?
01:48:25,000 --> 01:48:26,120
Look.
01:48:26,120 --> 01:48:28,120
A tobacco pouch.
01:48:28,120 --> 01:48:31,120
There’s dwarves in these woods.
01:48:31,120 --> 01:48:33,120
Dwarves from the Blue Mountains, no less.
01:48:33,190 --> 01:48:36,000
This is exactly the same as mine.
01:48:36,000 --> 01:48:38,070
Because it is yours. You understand?
01:48:38,070 --> 01:48:40,230
We’re going round in circles.
We are lost.
01:48:40,230 --> 01:48:42,230
We’re not lost. We keep heading east.
01:48:42,230 --> 01:48:46,020
But which way is east? We’ve lost the sun.
01:48:48,090 --> 01:48:53,000
The sun. We have to find the sun.
01:49:38,000 --> 01:49:42,000
I can see a lake!
01:49:42,000 --> 01:49:46,000
And a river.
01:49:46,000 --> 01:49:48,000
And the Lonely Mountain.
01:49:48,120 --> 01:49:50,120
We’re almost there!
01:49:52,120 --> 01:49:54,120
Can you hear me?
01:49:54,120 --> 01:49:57,000
I know which way to go!
01:50:00,120 --> 01:50:02,120
Hello?
01:50:11,000 --> 01:50:12,120
Hello?
01:50:25,040 --> 01:50:27,000
Oh, come on.
01:52:05,120 --> 01:52:07,040
Kill them.
01:52:08,040 --> 01:52:09,160
Eat them now.
01:52:09,160 --> 01:52:11,000
The blood is running.
01:52:11,000 --> 01:52:12,120
Their hide is tough.
01:52:12,120 --> 01:52:14,140
There is good juice inside.
01:52:14,140 --> 01:52:16,140
Stick it again! Stick it again!
01:52:16,140 --> 01:52:18,070
Finish it off!
01:52:18,070 --> 01:52:20,190
Ahh! The meat’s alive and kicking!
01:52:20,190 --> 01:52:22,140
Kill them, kill them now.
01:52:22,140 --> 01:52:24,140
Let us feast.
01:52:27,140 --> 01:52:30,140
What is it? What is it?
01:52:30,140 --> 01:52:32,140
Kill, kill it!
01:52:32,140 --> 01:52:34,140
Feast! Feast!
01:52:37,000 --> 01:52:39,140
Fat and juicy.
01:52:42,000 --> 01:52:44,190
Just a little taste.
01:52:48,000 --> 01:52:50,000
Curses! Where is it?
01:52:50,000 --> 01:52:51,000
Where is it?!
01:52:51,160 --> 01:52:53,000
Here.
01:52:54,120 --> 01:52:57,000
It stings! Stings!
01:53:02,120 --> 01:53:04,120
Sting.
01:53:04,120 --> 01:53:06,120
That’s a good name.
01:53:08,000 --> 01:53:09,120
Sting.
01:53:31,000 --> 01:53:32,120
Where's Bilbo?
01:53:32,120 --> 01:53:34,120
I'm up here!
01:54:02,120 --> 01:54:04,120
Where is it? Come on.
01:54:04,120 --> 01:54:06,120
Where is it?
01:54:28,000 --> 01:54:30,120
No! No! No!
01:54:30,120 --> 01:54:31,140
Thorin!
01:54:31,210 --> 01:54:32,190
Get it!
01:54:32,190 --> 01:54:33,190
Come on!
01:54:41,120 --> 01:54:43,120
Kili!
01:55:06,000 --> 01:55:07,120
Mine!
01:55:43,040 --> 01:55:45,040
Come on. Keep up!
01:55:46,000 --> 01:55:47,040
Kili!
01:55:53,120 --> 01:55:55,120
Do not think I won’t kill you, dwarf.
01:55:57,000 --> 01:55:58,000
Search them.
01:56:03,190 --> 01:56:05,040
Hey! Give it back!
01:56:05,040 --> 01:56:06,120
That's private!
01:56:06,120 --> 01:56:07,120
Who is this?
01:56:07,160 --> 01:56:08,190
Your brother?
01:56:08,190 --> 01:56:10,210
That is my wife!
01:56:10,210 --> 01:56:12,210
And what is this horrid creature?
01:56:12,210 --> 01:56:14,210
The goblin mutant.
01:56:14,210 --> 01:56:17,000
That's my wee lad, Gimli.
01:56:27,000 --> 01:56:29,120
Thorin, where's Bilbo?
01:57:33,000 --> 01:57:37,000
This is not the end of it! You hear me?
01:57:37,000 --> 01:57:39,000
Let us out of here!
01:57:49,000 --> 01:57:53,000
Some may imagine that a noble quest is at hand.
01:57:53,000 --> 01:57:59,000
A quest to reclaim a homeland and slay a dragon.
01:57:59,000 --> 01:58:03,120
I myself suspect a more prosaic motive:
01:58:04,000 --> 01:58:09,000
attempted burglary, or something of that ilk.
01:58:12,000 --> 01:58:14,040
You have found a way in.
01:58:14,040 --> 01:58:16,210
You seek that which would bestow upon you
01:58:16,210 --> 01:58:23,210
the right to rule:
the King’s Jewel, the Arkenstone.
01:58:26,000 --> 01:58:29,000
It is precious to you beyond measure.
01:58:29,000 --> 01:58:31,190
I understand that.
01:58:31,190 --> 01:58:36,190
There are gems in the mountain that I too desire.
01:58:37,190 --> 01:58:40,190
White gems of pure starlight.
01:58:41,190 --> 01:58:44,190
I offer you my help.
01:58:47,120 --> 01:58:49,000
I am listening.
01:58:49,000 --> 01:58:55,000
I will let you go, if you but return what is mine.
01:58:57,070 --> 01:58:59,070
A favor for a favor?
01:58:59,070 --> 01:59:01,090
You have my word.
01:59:01,090 --> 01:59:03,190
One king to another.
01:59:08,000 --> 01:59:13,120
I would not trust Thranduil, the great king,
01:59:13,120 --> 01:59:17,120
to honor his word should the end of all days be upon us!
01:59:17,120 --> 01:59:21,120
You lack all honor!
01:59:21,120 --> 01:59:25,000
I’ve seen how you treat your friends.
01:59:25,000 --> 01:59:27,040
We came to you once,
01:59:27,040 --> 01:59:31,040
starving, homeless, seeking your help,
01:59:31,040 --> 01:59:33,070
but you turned your back.
01:59:33,120 --> 01:59:38,000
You turned away from the suffering of my people
01:59:38,000 --> 01:59:40,000
and the inferno that destroyed us!
01:59:42,120 --> 01:59:44,160
Do not talk to me of dragon fire!
01:59:44,160 --> 01:59:49,160
I know its wrath and ruin.
01:59:52,000 --> 01:59:57,000
I have faced the great serpents of the North.
01:59:58,190 --> 02:00:01,000
I warned your grandfather
02:00:01,000 --> 02:00:03,000
of what his greed would summon,
02:00:04,090 --> 02:00:07,000
but he would not listen.
02:00:11,000 --> 02:00:13,000
You are just like him.
02:00:15,120 --> 02:00:18,120
Stay here if you will, and rot.
02:00:18,120 --> 02:00:20,040
A hundred years
02:00:20,040 --> 02:00:23,070
is a mere blink in the life of an elf.
02:00:23,070 --> 02:00:27,210
I am patient. I can wait.
02:00:35,210 --> 02:00:37,040
Did he offer you a deal?
02:00:37,040 --> 02:00:39,000
He did.
02:00:39,000 --> 02:00:42,120
I told him he could go...
02:00:44,000 --> 02:00:46,000
Him and all his kin!
02:00:47,000 --> 02:00:50,000
Well...that’s that, then.
02:00:50,000 --> 02:00:53,000
A deal was our only hope.
02:00:56,040 --> 02:00:58,040
Not our only hope.
02:01:00,120 --> 02:01:02,000
...we're running out of drink.
02:01:02,190 --> 02:01:06,040
These empty barrels should have been sent back to Esgarrouth hours ago.
02:01:06,040 --> 02:01:08,000
The bargeman will be waiting for them.
02:01:08,000 --> 02:01:10,140
Say what you like about our ill-tempered king,
02:01:10,140 --> 02:01:12,190
he has excellent taste in wine.
02:01:12,230 --> 02:01:16,090
Come, Elros, try it.
02:01:16,090 --> 02:01:18,090
I have the dwarves in my charge.
02:01:18,090 --> 02:01:21,090
They’re locked up; where can they go?
02:01:24,000 --> 02:01:27,000
I’ll wager the sun is on the rise.
02:01:27,040 --> 02:01:29,000
It must be nearly dawn.
02:01:29,040 --> 02:01:32,000
We’re never going to reach the mountain, are we?
02:01:34,120 --> 02:01:37,120
Not stuck in here, you’re not!
02:01:42,230 --> 02:01:44,000
Bilbo!
02:01:44,000 --> 02:01:45,090
What?
02:01:46,040 --> 02:01:49,000
Shhhh! There are guards nearby.
02:02:09,000 --> 02:02:10,120
The stairs. You first.
02:02:10,120 --> 02:02:12,040
Ori! Not that way!
02:02:12,040 --> 02:02:14,040
Down here. Follow me.
02:02:31,090 --> 02:02:33,090
This way.
02:02:36,120 --> 02:02:39,020
I don’t believe it; we’re in the cellars!
02:02:39,020 --> 02:02:40,090
You're supposed to be leading us out,
02:02:40,090 --> 02:02:41,050
not further in!
02:02:41,050 --> 02:02:43,000
I know what I'm doing.
02:02:43,120 --> 02:02:45,000
This way.
02:02:50,000 --> 02:02:52,120
Everyone, climb into the barrels, quickly!
02:02:52,120 --> 02:02:54,190
Are you mad?! They’ll find us!
02:02:54,190 --> 02:02:56,040
No, no. They won’t. I promise you.
02:02:56,040 --> 02:02:59,120
Please, please, you must trust me!
02:03:04,000 --> 02:03:05,120
Do as he says!
02:03:23,120 --> 02:03:25,000
What do we do now?
02:03:26,040 --> 02:03:27,120
Hold your breath.
02:03:27,120 --> 02:03:28,120
Hold me breath?
02:03:28,120 --> 02:03:30,000
What do you mean?
02:03:55,000 --> 02:03:57,120
Where is the keeper of the keys?
02:04:24,000 --> 02:04:26,000
Well done, Master Baggins.
02:04:26,120 --> 02:04:29,000
Go. Come on, let's go.
02:04:38,000 --> 02:04:41,000
Hold on!
02:05:01,140 --> 02:05:02,090
Help!
02:05:02,090 --> 02:05:05,000
Thorin!
02:05:29,120 --> 02:05:30,120
No!
02:05:43,000 --> 02:05:44,000
Watch out!
02:05:44,000 --> 02:05:46,000
Those are orcs!
02:06:41,000 --> 02:06:42,000
Kili!
02:07:08,140 --> 02:07:10,000
Kili!
02:07:38,120 --> 02:07:40,000
Anything behind us?
02:07:40,000 --> 02:07:42,000
Not that I can see.
02:07:46,040 --> 02:07:47,140
I think we’ve outrun the orcs.
02:07:47,140 --> 02:07:49,140
Not for long; we’ve lost the current.
02:07:49,140 --> 02:07:51,140
Bombur is half drowned.
02:07:51,190 --> 02:07:53,160
Make for the shore!
02:07:53,160 --> 02:07:55,160
Come on, let’s go!
02:08:01,120 --> 02:08:03,070
Come on!
02:08:15,120 --> 02:08:17,000
I’m fine. It’s nothing.
02:08:17,000 --> 02:08:18,070
On your feet.
02:08:18,070 --> 02:08:19,070
Kili’s wounded.
02:08:19,070 --> 02:08:20,190
His leg needs binding.
02:08:20,190 --> 02:08:22,090
There’s an orc pack on our tail.
02:08:22,090 --> 02:08:23,120
We keep moving.
02:08:23,120 --> 02:08:24,140
To where?
02:08:24,140 --> 02:08:26,140
To the Mountain. We’re so close.
02:08:26,140 --> 02:08:29,210
A lake lies between us and that mountain.
02:08:29,210 --> 02:08:31,160
We have no way to cross it.
02:08:31,160 --> 02:08:32,160
So then we go around.
02:08:32,160 --> 02:08:36,000
The orcs will run us down, as sure as daylight.
02:08:36,000 --> 02:08:38,000
We have no weapons to defend ourselves.
02:08:38,070 --> 02:08:40,070
Bind his leg, quickly.
02:08:40,070 --> 02:08:42,070
You have two minutes.
02:09:02,090 --> 02:09:05,040
Do it again, and you’re dead.
02:09:07,160 --> 02:09:11,000
Excuse me, but, uh, you’re from Laketown,
02:09:11,000 --> 02:09:13,000
if I’m not mistaken?
02:09:13,000 --> 02:09:15,160
That barge over there,
02:09:15,160 --> 02:09:19,160
it wouldn’t be available for hire, by any chance?
02:11:19,110 --> 02:11:21,060
What makes you think I would help you?
02:11:22,000 --> 02:11:23,070
Those boots have seen better days
02:11:24,090 --> 02:11:25,090
As has that coat.
02:11:26,000 --> 02:11:28,130
And, no doubt you have some hungry mouths to feed.
02:11:30,030 --> 02:11:31,040
How many bairns?
02:11:32,070 --> 02:11:33,120
A boy and two girls.
02:11:34,010 --> 02:11:37,000
And your wife, I imagine she's a beauty.
02:11:39,030 --> 02:11:41,130
Aye... She was.
02:11:44,130 --> 02:11:46,020
I'm sorry, I didn't mean to--
02:11:46,020 --> 02:11:49,010
Oh, come on, come on, enough of the niceties
02:11:49,120 --> 02:11:51,010
What's your hurry?
02:11:51,050 --> 02:11:52,060
What's it to you?
02:11:53,030 --> 02:11:54,060
I would like to know who you are
02:11:55,000 --> 02:11:57,000
And what you are doing in these lands.
02:11:57,000 --> 02:12:00,040
We are simple merchants, from the Blue Mountains...
02:12:00,100 --> 02:12:02,040
journeying to see our kin...
02:12:02,040 --> 02:12:03,050
in the Iron Hills.
02:12:05,040 --> 02:12:06,120
Simple merchants, you say?
02:12:07,000 --> 02:12:08,120
We need food...
02:12:08,130 --> 02:12:10,120
supplies, weapons.
02:12:11,030 --> 02:12:12,000
Can you help us?
02:12:16,050 --> 02:12:18,110
I know where these barrels came from.
02:12:19,120 --> 02:12:20,100
What of it?
02:12:20,130 --> 02:12:23,030
I don't know what business you had with the Elves...
02:12:24,000 --> 02:12:25,120
but I don't think it ended well.
02:12:27,120 --> 02:12:30,010
No one enters Lake-town but by leave of the master.
02:12:30,140 --> 02:12:33,120
All his wealth, comes from trade with the Woodland Realm.
02:12:34,050 --> 02:12:37,060
He would see you in irons before risking the wrath of King Thranduil.
02:12:39,000 --> 02:12:40,000
Offer him more.
02:12:43,000 --> 02:12:45,070
I'll wager, there are ways to enter that town unseen.
02:12:46,000 --> 02:12:47,020
Aye
02:12:49,020 --> 02:12:52,140
But for that, you would need a smuggler.
02:12:53,000 --> 02:12:54,100
For which we will pay, double.
02:13:14,110 --> 02:13:16,010
Watch out!
02:13:25,000 --> 02:13:27,070
What are you trying to do... drown us?
02:13:27,080 --> 02:13:29,130
I was born and bred on these waters Master Dwarf.
02:13:30,110 --> 02:13:33,060
If I wanted to drown you, I would not do it here.
02:13:36,020 --> 02:13:38,020
Oh, I've had enough of this lippy Lakeman.
02:13:38,100 --> 02:13:40,140
I say we throw him over the side, and be done with it.
02:13:40,140 --> 02:13:43,100
Oh, Bard, his name's Bard.
02:13:43,110 --> 02:13:44,070
How do you know?
02:13:44,140 --> 02:13:46,000
Uh, I asked him.
02:13:46,050 --> 02:13:48,140
I don't care what he calls himself, I don't like him.
02:13:49,040 --> 02:13:52,060
We do not have to like him, we simply have to pay him.
02:13:52,060 --> 02:13:53,120
Come on now, lads.
02:13:54,070 --> 02:13:55,060
Turn out your pockets.
02:13:57,010 --> 02:13:58,060
How do we know he won't betray us?
02:13:58,130 --> 02:13:59,130
We don't.
02:14:01,000 --> 02:14:03,040
There's, just a wee problem...
02:14:04,000 --> 02:14:05,110
we're ten coins short.
02:14:08,000 --> 02:14:10,120
Gloin. Come on.
02:14:11,000 --> 02:14:12,020
Give us what you have.
02:14:12,050 --> 02:14:13,080
Don't look to me.
02:14:14,030 --> 02:14:17,130
I have been bled dry, by this venture.
02:14:18,060 --> 02:14:21,000
What have I seen, for my investment?
02:14:21,130 --> 02:14:25,020
Naught but misery, and grief, and...
02:14:33,020 --> 02:14:35,040
Bless my beard.
02:14:35,130 --> 02:14:38,090
Take it, take all of it.
02:14:43,070 --> 02:14:44,100
The money, quick, give it to me.
02:14:44,120 --> 02:14:47,040
We will pay you when we get our provisions, but not before.
02:14:47,070 --> 02:14:49,090
If you value your freedom, you'll do as I say.
02:14:50,000 --> 02:14:51,080
There are guards ahead.
02:15:09,120 --> 02:15:11,010
What's he doing?
02:15:11,130 --> 02:15:13,060
He's talking to someone.
02:15:15,030 --> 02:15:17,100
He's, pointing right at us.
02:15:20,070 --> 02:15:21,140
Now they're shaking hands.
02:15:21,140 --> 02:15:22,070
What?
02:15:22,100 --> 02:15:24,110
The villain. He's selling us out.
02:15:47,110 --> 02:15:48,140
Quiet!
02:15:51,110 --> 02:15:53,100
We're approaching the tollgate.
02:16:09,060 --> 02:16:13,130
All this talk of civil unrest. Some ones been stirring the pot, sire.
02:16:17,010 --> 02:16:18,070
Gout playing up, sire?
02:16:18,070 --> 02:16:22,100
It's the damp. It's the only possible explanation. Get me a brandy.
02:16:23,070 --> 02:16:26,060
The mood of the people, sire. It's turning ugly.
02:16:26,060 --> 02:16:29,090
They're commoners Alfrid, they've always been ugly.
02:16:29,090 --> 02:16:34,000
It's not my fault they live in a place that stinks of fish oil and tar.
02:16:34,140 --> 02:16:40,000
Jobs, shelter, food. That's all they ever bleat about.
02:16:40,000 --> 02:16:41,060
It's my belief, sire...
02:16:41,060 --> 02:16:43,100
They're being led on by troublemakers.
02:16:44,050 --> 02:16:48,090
Then we must find these troublemakers, and arrest them.
02:16:48,130 --> 02:16:50,090
My thoughts exactly, sire.
02:16:51,000 --> 02:16:53,130
And all this talk of change, must be suppressed.
02:16:56,080 --> 02:17:00,040
Shirkers. Ingrates. Rabble-rousers.
02:17:00,040 --> 02:17:03,080
Who would have the nerve to question my authority.
02:17:04,000 --> 02:17:05,030
Who would dare.
02:17:05,070 --> 02:17:07,030
Who---?
02:17:10,140 --> 02:17:12,070
Bard.
02:17:13,070 --> 02:17:18,080
You mark my words. That, trouble making bargeman is behind all this.
02:17:26,060 --> 02:17:27,110
Get your hands off me.
02:17:34,120 --> 02:17:36,100
You didn't see them, they were never here.
02:17:38,050 --> 02:17:39,120
The fish you can have for nothing.
02:17:44,000 --> 02:17:45,100
They may not be the best fit...
02:17:45,130 --> 02:17:46,120
But they'll keep you warm.
02:17:59,000 --> 02:18:01,020
A Dwarvish windlance.
02:18:02,030 --> 02:18:03,120
You look like you've seen a ghost.
02:18:04,130 --> 02:18:05,120
He has.
02:18:06,120 --> 02:18:09,120
The last time we saw such a weapon...
02:18:10,120 --> 02:18:12,050
a city was on fire.
02:18:13,100 --> 02:18:15,100
It was the day the dragon came.
02:18:19,030 --> 02:18:22,010
The day that Smaug destroyed Dale.
02:18:24,030 --> 02:18:26,070
Girion, the lord of the city...
02:18:26,120 --> 02:18:29,010
rallied his bowmen, to fire upon the beast.
02:18:30,030 --> 02:18:32,010
But a dragon's hide is tough.
02:18:32,070 --> 02:18:34,090
Tougher than the strongest armor.
02:18:34,140 --> 02:18:37,140
Only a black arrow, fired from a windlance...
02:18:38,040 --> 02:18:39,140
could have pierced the dragon's hide.
02:18:40,130 --> 02:18:43,090
And few of those arrows, were ever made.
02:18:49,030 --> 02:18:50,120
The store, was running low...
02:18:51,010 --> 02:18:53,030
when Girion made his last stand.
02:19:00,030 --> 02:19:01,100
Had the aim of men...
02:19:02,000 --> 02:19:03,100
been true that day...
02:19:04,110 --> 02:19:06,050
much would have been different.
02:19:10,100 --> 02:19:12,070
You speak as if you were there.
02:19:13,130 --> 02:19:15,090
All dwarves know the tale.
02:19:16,030 --> 02:19:18,020
The you would know that Girion hit the dragon.
02:19:18,130 --> 02:19:20,100
He loosened a scale under the left wing.
02:19:20,100 --> 02:19:22,080
One more shot, and he would have killed the beast.
02:19:24,000 --> 02:19:25,120
That's a fairy story lad.
02:19:26,040 --> 02:19:27,060
Nothing more.
02:19:28,110 --> 02:19:30,040
You took our money...
02:19:30,130 --> 02:19:32,030
where are the weapons?
02:19:40,060 --> 02:19:42,140
As soon as we have the weapons, we make straight for the mountain.
02:19:42,140 --> 02:19:44,140
Go, go, go.
02:19:49,030 --> 02:19:49,130
Next.
02:20:03,050 --> 02:20:04,080
You all right?
02:20:05,030 --> 02:20:06,010
I can manage.
02:20:07,040 --> 02:20:08,070
Let's just get out of here.
02:20:22,120 --> 02:20:23,120
Run!
02:20:52,130 --> 02:20:55,010
What is the meaning of this?
02:20:55,080 --> 02:20:57,050
We caught them stealing weapons, sire.
02:20:58,000 --> 02:21:00,060
Enemies of the state, eh?
02:21:00,060 --> 02:21:03,110
A desperate bunch of mercenaries, if ever there was sire.
02:21:03,110 --> 02:21:05,010
Hold your tongue...
02:21:07,130 --> 02:21:10,000
You do not know, to whom you speak.
02:21:10,090 --> 02:21:12,070
This is no common criminal...
02:21:12,070 --> 02:21:14,020
this is Thorin...
02:21:14,020 --> 02:21:15,050
son of Thrain...
02:21:15,110 --> 02:21:17,020
son of Thror.
02:21:20,100 --> 02:21:22,020
We are the dwarves of Erebor...
02:21:25,070 --> 02:21:28,010
We have come, to reclaim our homeland.
02:21:33,060 --> 02:21:35,130
I remember this town in the great days of old.
02:21:37,090 --> 02:21:39,090
Fleets of boats, lay at harbor...
02:21:39,090 --> 02:21:41,080
filled with silks, and fine gems.
02:21:42,060 --> 02:21:44,080
This was no forsaken town on a lake...
02:21:45,030 --> 02:21:48,130
this, was the center of all trade in the north.
02:21:50,120 --> 02:21:52,040
I would see those days return.
02:21:52,130 --> 02:21:55,020
I would relight the great forges of the dwarves...
02:21:55,080 --> 02:21:59,060
Send wealth and riches flowing once more, from the halls of Erebor.
02:22:02,070 --> 02:22:03,090
Death...
02:22:03,130 --> 02:22:06,000
that is what you will bring upon us.
02:22:07,070 --> 02:22:09,070
Dragon fire, and ruin.
02:22:11,090 --> 02:22:13,020
If you awaken that beast...
02:22:14,010 --> 02:22:15,040
it will destroy us all.
02:22:15,120 --> 02:22:16,140
If we succeed...
02:22:18,120 --> 02:22:21,020
all will share, in the wealth of the mountain.
02:22:25,110 --> 02:22:30,030
You will have enough gold, to rebuild Esgaroth 10 times over!
02:22:31,140 --> 02:22:33,000
All of you...
02:22:33,100 --> 02:22:34,100
listen to me.
02:22:34,100 --> 02:22:35,100
You must listen.
02:22:35,100 --> 02:22:38,020
Have you forgotten what happened to Dale?
02:22:40,000 --> 02:22:42,070
Have you forgotten those who died in the firestorm.
02:22:45,030 --> 02:22:46,110
And for what purpose?
02:22:47,100 --> 02:22:50,010
The blind ambition of a mountain king...
02:22:50,070 --> 02:22:54,010
So riven by greed, he could not see beyond his own desire!
02:22:55,100 --> 02:23:01,140
Now, now, we must not, any of us, be too quick to lay blame.
02:23:03,020 --> 02:23:04,120
Let us not forget...
02:23:04,120 --> 02:23:09,090
that it was Girion, lord of Dale, your anscestor...
02:23:10,000 --> 02:23:12,040
who failed to kill the beast.
02:23:18,050 --> 02:23:20,000
You have no right.
02:23:21,020 --> 02:23:22,130
No right to enter that mountain.
02:23:24,140 --> 02:23:26,070
I have the only right.
02:23:33,060 --> 02:23:35,140
I speak to the master of the men of the lake.
02:23:36,090 --> 02:23:38,060
Will you see the prophecy fulfilled?
02:23:40,000 --> 02:23:44,110
Will you share, in the great wealth of our people?
02:23:50,000 --> 02:23:50,130
What say you?
02:23:55,060 --> 02:23:57,140
I say, unto you...
02:23:59,070 --> 02:24:00,100
Welcome!
02:24:01,040 --> 02:24:06,070
Welcome! And thrice, welcome, king under the mountain.
02:24:53,050 --> 02:24:54,060
What is this place?
02:24:55,020 --> 02:24:56,130
It was once the city of Dale.
02:24:58,060 --> 02:24:59,080
Now it is a ruin.
02:25:00,110 --> 02:25:03,020
The desolation, of Smaug.
02:25:03,030 --> 02:25:04,110
The sun will soon reach midday.
02:25:05,030 --> 02:25:07,100
We must find the hidden door into the mountain before it sets.
02:25:07,140 --> 02:25:08,110
This way.
02:25:08,120 --> 02:25:10,130
Wait, is this the overlook?
02:25:11,080 --> 02:25:13,100
Gandalf said to meet him here, on no account were we--
02:25:13,100 --> 02:25:14,070
Do you see him?
02:25:15,040 --> 02:25:16,140
We have no time to wait upon the wizard.
02:25:17,130 --> 02:25:19,060
We're on our own, come.
02:25:30,120 --> 02:25:32,080
If the map is true...
02:25:32,140 --> 02:25:34,080
the hidden door lies directly above us.
02:25:39,130 --> 02:25:40,130
Up here!
02:25:50,000 --> 02:25:51,100
You have keen eyes, Master Baggins.
02:26:24,040 --> 02:26:25,030
This must be it.
02:26:27,070 --> 02:26:28,070
The hidden door.
02:26:33,010 --> 02:26:35,000
Let all those who doubted us...
02:26:36,010 --> 02:26:37,120
rue this day.
02:26:43,030 --> 02:26:45,020
Right then, we have a key.
02:26:47,070 --> 02:26:51,030
Which means that somewhere, there is a keyhole.
02:26:52,030 --> 02:26:53,030
The last light...
02:26:53,130 --> 02:26:54,120
Of Durin's Day.
02:26:57,010 --> 02:26:58,110
Will shine upon the keyhole.
02:27:08,090 --> 02:27:09,050
Nori.
02:27:21,090 --> 02:27:22,130
Break it down!
02:27:24,140 --> 02:27:25,120
Come on!
02:27:31,000 --> 02:27:33,030
It's no good. The door's sealed.
02:27:33,100 --> 02:27:34,110
It can't be open by force.
02:27:36,090 --> 02:27:38,080
There's a powerful magic on it.
02:27:47,050 --> 02:27:47,140
No!
02:27:53,120 --> 02:27:55,080
The last light of Durin's day...
02:27:58,010 --> 02:27:59,110
will shine upon the keyhole.
02:28:04,050 --> 02:28:05,010
What did we miss?
02:29:15,000 --> 02:29:15,140
Erebor
02:29:17,000 --> 02:29:17,110
Thorin
02:29:31,090 --> 02:29:33,000
I know these walls.
02:29:37,030 --> 02:29:38,050
These halls.
02:29:41,120 --> 02:29:42,120
This stone.
02:29:47,060 --> 02:29:48,120
You remember it Balin.
02:29:52,110 --> 02:29:55,010
Chambers filled with golden light.
02:29:57,020 --> 02:29:58,010
I remember.
02:30:12,000 --> 02:30:16,050
Herein lies the seventh kingdom of Durin's Folk.
02:30:18,130 --> 02:30:25,060
May the heart of the mountain unite all dwarves in, defense of this home.
02:30:27,050 --> 02:30:28,110
The throne of the king.
02:30:32,130 --> 02:30:35,070
And what’s that above it?
02:30:39,090 --> 02:30:41,030
The Arkenstone.
02:30:42,140 --> 02:30:43,130
Arkenstone...
02:30:48,040 --> 02:30:49,010
and what's that?
02:30:49,120 --> 02:30:52,060
That, master burglar...
02:30:53,130 --> 02:30:55,030
is why you are here.
02:31:08,140 --> 02:31:12,050
You want me, to find a jewel?
02:31:14,000 --> 02:31:16,110
A large, white jewel. Yes.
02:31:18,130 --> 02:31:21,080
That’s it? Only, I imagine there’s quite a few down there.
02:31:21,080 --> 02:31:24,110
There is only one, Arkenstone.
02:31:25,020 --> 02:31:26,110
You’ll know it when you see it.
02:31:28,110 --> 02:31:29,010
Alright
02:31:33,090 --> 02:31:39,130
I truth lad, I do not know, what you'll find down there.
02:31:42,060 --> 02:31:45,110
You needn’t go if you don’t want to, there’s no dishonor in turning back.
02:31:45,110 --> 02:31:47,110
No, Balin...
02:31:47,110 --> 02:31:49,110
I promised I would do this...
02:31:50,140 --> 02:31:52,020
and I think I must try.
02:31:57,060 --> 02:31:59,030
It never ceases to amaze me.
02:31:59,030 --> 02:32:00,030
What's that?
02:32:00,030 --> 02:32:01,140
The courage of hobbits.
02:32:04,060 --> 02:32:09,070
Go now with as much luck as you can muster.
02:32:17,060 --> 02:32:18,100
Oh, and Bilbo...
02:32:21,000 --> 02:32:26,050
if there is, in fact, a live dragon down there...
02:32:30,000 --> 02:32:30,140
don't waken it.
02:32:59,050 --> 02:32:59,140
Hello
02:33:19,060 --> 02:33:28,110
You’re not at home. Not at home. Good, good, good, good.
02:34:23,070 --> 02:34:24,030
What's that?
02:34:31,030 --> 02:34:34,070
Arkenstone, arkenstone...
02:34:35,090 --> 02:34:40,100
a large, white jewel. Very helpful.
02:37:06,130 --> 02:37:08,090
Well!
02:37:09,130 --> 02:37:11,060
Thief
02:37:13,060 --> 02:37:16,140
I smell you...
02:37:17,010 --> 02:37:20,140
I hear your breath...
02:37:21,070 --> 02:37:26,060
I feel your air.
02:37:28,070 --> 02:37:31,070
Where are you?
02:37:32,060 --> 02:37:34,020
Where are you?
02:37:53,090 --> 02:37:55,030
Come now...
02:37:55,030 --> 02:37:57,090
don't be shy...
02:37:57,130 --> 02:38:00,000
step into the light.
02:38:07,000 --> 02:38:10,140
There is, something about you...
02:38:13,090 --> 02:38:15,140
something you carry.
02:38:16,090 --> 02:38:19,040
Something made of gold...
02:38:20,030 --> 02:38:25,070
but far more PRECIOUS!
02:38:30,040 --> 02:38:35,000
There you are, thief in the shadows.
02:38:37,060 --> 02:38:43,090
I did not come to steal from you, O Smaug the Unassessably Wealthy.
02:38:43,120 --> 02:38:46,060
I merely wanted to gaze upon your magnificence...
02:38:46,120 --> 02:38:50,070
to see if you really were as great as the old tales say.
02:38:51,020 --> 02:38:52,070
I did not believe them.
02:39:02,040 --> 02:39:05,100
And, do you now?
02:39:07,050 --> 02:39:14,120
Truly, the tales and songs fall utterly short...
02:39:14,130 --> 02:39:18,120
of your enormity, O Smaug the Stupendous.
02:39:19,010 --> 02:39:22,020
Do you think flattery will keep you alive?
02:39:22,140 --> 02:39:23,120
No, no.
02:39:23,120 --> 02:39:25,040
No, indeed.
02:39:27,130 --> 02:39:31,020
You seem familiar with my name....
02:39:31,020 --> 02:39:34,110
but I don't remember smelling your kind before.
02:39:35,050 --> 02:39:39,060
Who are you, and where do you come from...
02:39:39,060 --> 02:39:42,010
may I ask?
02:39:48,000 --> 02:39:53,000
I- I come from under the hill.
02:39:53,100 --> 02:39:54,090
Underhill?
02:39:58,130 --> 02:40:01,050
And under hills and over hills my path has led.
02:40:03,000 --> 02:40:06,120
And, and, through the air. I am he who walks unseen.
02:40:06,120 --> 02:40:11,120
Impressive. What else do you claim to be?
02:40:11,120 --> 02:40:12,070
I am...
02:40:16,010 --> 02:40:20,050
luck-wearer. Riddle-maker.
02:40:20,050 --> 02:40:23,090
Lovely titles; go on.
02:40:24,030 --> 02:40:25,030
Barrel Rider.
02:40:25,030 --> 02:40:26,110
Barrels...
02:40:27,000 --> 02:40:29,000
Now that is interesting.
02:40:30,070 --> 02:40:34,050
And what about your little dwarf friends?
02:40:35,050 --> 02:40:37,020
Where are they hiding?
02:40:38,130 --> 02:40:40,130
Dw- Dwarves?
02:40:41,120 --> 02:40:45,040
No, no, no dwarves here.
02:40:45,040 --> 02:40:46,080
You’ve got that all wrong.
02:40:46,080 --> 02:40:48,070
Oh, I don't think so.
02:40:48,120 --> 02:40:50,070
Barrel Rider!
02:40:51,030 --> 02:40:57,130
They sent you in here to do their dirty work while they skulk about outside.
02:40:57,130 --> 02:41:04,090
Truly, you are mistaken, O Smaug, Chiefest and Greatest of calamities.
02:41:04,090 --> 02:41:11,100
You have nice manners...for a thief and a liar!
02:41:12,080 --> 02:41:18,060
I know the smell and taste of dwarf. No one better.
02:41:19,000 --> 02:41:25,050
It is the gold! They are drawn to treasure like flies to dead flesh.
02:41:28,100 --> 02:41:31,100
Did you think I did not know this day would come...
02:41:33,120 --> 02:41:36,070
when a pack of canting dwarves...
02:41:36,070 --> 02:41:40,090
would come crawling back to the mountain?!
02:41:45,080 --> 02:41:46,090
Was that an earthquake?
02:41:46,090 --> 02:41:53,020
That, my lad...was a dragon.
02:41:55,030 --> 02:42:01,020
It’s Oakenshield. That filthy dwarvish usurper!
02:42:03,030 --> 02:42:09,000
He sent you in here for the Arkenstone, didn’t he?
02:42:09,000 --> 02:42:10,000
No, no, no.
02:42:10,070 --> 02:42:14,040
What did he promise you? A share of the treasure?
02:42:14,120 --> 02:42:17,060
As if it was his to give.
02:42:18,070 --> 02:42:25,000
I will not part with a single coin. Not one piece of it.
02:42:28,090 --> 02:42:31,030
My teeth are swords...
02:42:31,130 --> 02:42:35,020
my claws, are spears.
02:42:37,040 --> 02:42:41,040
My wings, are a hurricane!
02:42:47,070 --> 02:42:51,030
So it is true. The black arrow found its mark.
02:42:51,030 --> 02:42:52,120
What did you say?
02:42:53,070 --> 02:42:56,060
I was just saying your reputation precedes you...
02:42:56,060 --> 02:42:58,100
O Smaug the tyrannical.
02:42:59,080 --> 02:43:03,070
Truly, you have no equal on this earth.
02:43:07,070 --> 02:43:10,110
I am almost tempted to let you take it...
02:43:11,090 --> 02:43:15,000
if only to see Oakenshield suffer...
02:43:16,040 --> 02:43:18,070
watch it destroy him...
02:43:19,090 --> 02:43:25,050
watch it corrupt his heart and drive him mad.
02:43:28,140 --> 02:43:30,090
But I think not.
02:43:31,010 --> 02:43:33,050
I think our little game ends here.
02:43:33,130 --> 02:43:36,050
So tell me, thief...
02:43:37,040 --> 02:43:39,100
how do you choose to die?
02:44:09,050 --> 02:44:10,130
It’s coming from the mountain.
02:44:11,140 --> 02:44:13,070
Are we going to die, Da?
02:44:14,090 --> 02:44:15,070
No, darling.
02:44:15,070 --> 02:44:17,140
The dragon, it’s going to kill us.
02:44:28,130 --> 02:44:30,130
Not if I kill it first.
02:44:33,130 --> 02:44:35,020
What about Bilbo?
02:44:35,040 --> 02:44:36,070
Give him more time.
02:44:36,090 --> 02:44:38,070
Time to do what? To be killed.
02:44:41,030 --> 02:44:42,040
You're afraid.
02:44:44,000 --> 02:44:49,000
Yes, I’m afraid. I fear for YOU.
02:44:50,030 --> 02:44:52,120
A sickness lies upon that treasure hoard...
02:44:52,120 --> 02:44:55,000
a sickness that drove your grandfather mad.
02:44:55,000 --> 02:44:56,100
I am not my grandfather.
02:44:57,040 --> 02:44:58,090
You're not yourself.
02:44:59,130 --> 02:45:02,010
The Thorin I know would not hesitate to go in there-
02:45:02,010 --> 02:45:06,100
I will not risk this quest for the life of one burglar.
02:45:08,120 --> 02:45:12,040
Bilbo. His name is Bilbo.
02:45:15,090 --> 02:45:16,030
Alright
02:45:17,010 --> 02:45:18,030
A black arrow...
02:45:18,030 --> 02:45:19,090
why did you never tell me?
02:45:19,090 --> 02:45:21,000
Because you did not need to know.
02:45:28,130 --> 02:45:30,010
Listen to me carefully...
02:45:30,130 --> 02:45:32,010
I need you to distract the guards.
02:45:33,070 --> 02:45:36,120
Once I’m at the top of the tower, I’ll set the arrow to the bow.
02:45:36,120 --> 02:45:39,000
There he is! Bard! After him!
02:45:39,000 --> 02:45:40,020
Quickly! Down there!
02:45:40,020 --> 02:45:40,110
Go!
02:45:41,030 --> 02:45:42,040
Stop him.
02:45:55,060 --> 02:45:56,030
Bain!
02:45:56,030 --> 02:45:58,110
Bain. Keep it safe.
02:45:59,030 --> 02:46:02,000
Don’t let anyone find it. I’ll deal with them.
02:46:02,050 --> 02:46:03,000
Go!
02:46:07,090 --> 02:46:07,140
Braga
02:46:07,140 --> 02:46:09,020
You are under arrest.
02:46:09,020 --> 02:46:10,010
On what charge?
02:46:10,010 --> 02:46:11,140
Any charge the Master chooses.
02:47:10,060 --> 02:47:10,060
You're alive.
02:47:11,090 --> 02:47:12,050
Not for much longer.
02:47:12,050 --> 02:47:13,040
Did you find the Arkenstone?
02:47:13,040 --> 02:47:14,020
The dragon’s coming!
02:47:14,020 --> 02:47:15,010
The Arkenstone!
02:47:18,030 --> 02:47:19,020
Did you find it?
02:47:25,040 --> 02:47:26,070
No. We have to get out.
02:47:30,010 --> 02:47:30,110
Thorin
02:47:34,100 --> 02:47:35,050
Thorin!
02:48:06,060 --> 02:48:09,070
You will burn!
02:48:48,030 --> 02:48:49,030
It's this way.
02:48:49,080 --> 02:48:50,040
Come on!
02:48:51,030 --> 02:48:52,000
Thorin!
02:48:57,040 --> 02:48:58,010
Follow Balin.
02:48:59,120 --> 02:49:00,010
Thorin!
02:49:00,020 --> 02:49:00,120
Come on!
02:49:16,120 --> 02:49:17,050
Thorin!
02:49:56,070 --> 02:49:57,080
GO!
02:50:18,120 --> 02:50:23,090
You think you could deceive me, Barrel-rider?
02:50:25,100 --> 02:50:28,070
You have come from Laketown.
02:50:30,000 --> 02:50:35,020
it's- it's some sort of scheme hatched between these filthy dwarves...
02:50:35,020 --> 02:50:38,010
and those miserable cup-trading Lakemen.
02:50:39,070 --> 02:50:41,090
Those sniveling cowards...
02:50:41,090 --> 02:50:45,090
with their longbows and black arrows!
02:50:46,090 --> 02:50:50,090
Perhaps it is time I paid them a visit.
02:50:51,030 --> 02:50:51,130
Oh no.
02:51:28,010 --> 02:51:28,140
Listen to me!
02:51:29,120 --> 02:51:31,040
You don’t know what is coming!
02:51:34,060 --> 02:51:38,100
I am fire...
02:51:39,060 --> 02:51:41,100
I am...
02:51:43,130 --> 02:51:45,000
DEATH!
02:51:58,090 --> 02:51:59,070
I warned you...
02:51:59,100 --> 02:52:02,090
Did I not warn you what would come of dealing with dwarves?
02:52:02,130 --> 02:52:05,020
Now they’ve done it! They’ve woken the dragon.
02:52:05,060 --> 02:52:07,070
They brought the apocalypse upon our heads!
02:52:07,140 --> 02:52:08,080
Come on!
02:52:08,130 --> 02:52:09,110
Quickly, Quickly!
02:52:10,070 --> 02:52:13,060
Faster now! I’m trying to evacuate myself here!
02:52:13,060 --> 02:52:15,060
Careful, men. Never mind the books!
02:52:16,070 --> 02:52:18,110
But Sire, should we not try to save the town?
02:52:18,140 --> 02:52:21,100
The town is lost! Save the gold!
02:52:29,070 --> 02:52:30,110
Open this door!
02:52:31,060 --> 02:52:32,050
Do you hear me!
02:53:11,030 --> 02:53:14,130
Come on! Come on! Faster! FASTER!
02:53:18,120 --> 02:53:22,050
If only we could take more of these poor people with us, but they are hardly-
02:53:22,050 --> 02:53:24,030
-worth it. I quite agree.
02:53:30,120 --> 02:53:32,080
My gold, my GOLD!
02:53:32,080 --> 02:53:33,120
We’re carrying too much weight.
02:53:34,030 --> 02:53:35,070
We need to dump something!
02:53:36,040 --> 02:53:37,040
You’re quite right, Alfrid.
02:53:45,080 --> 02:53:47,030
Faster! Faster!
02:55:03,080 --> 02:55:04,080
Poor souls.
02:56:38,090 --> 02:56:39,030
Da!
02:56:40,030 --> 02:56:41,030
DA!
02:57:18,070 --> 02:57:19,010
Dad!
02:57:20,070 --> 02:57:21,100
Bain?! What are you doing?!
02:57:21,120 --> 02:57:23,090
Why didn’t you leave?! You were supposed to leave!
02:57:23,090 --> 02:57:24,100
I came to help you.
02:57:24,100 --> 02:57:27,000
No! Nothing can stop it now!
02:57:27,080 --> 02:57:28,070
This might.
02:57:32,040 --> 02:57:36,110
Bain - you go back. You get out of here now!
02:57:39,090 --> 02:57:40,060
DAD!
02:57:59,110 --> 02:58:01,080
Stop! Stop! Halt! Halt!
02:58:09,130 --> 02:58:15,080
Who are you that would stand against me?!
02:58:18,100 --> 02:58:28,090
Now that is a pity. What will you do now, Bowman?
02:58:29,020 --> 02:58:35,100
You are forsaken. No help will come.
02:58:37,000 --> 02:58:40,100
Now’s our chance! Go! Go! Make for the open water!
02:58:45,010 --> 02:58:47,050
Is that your child?
02:58:49,050 --> 02:58:56,090
You cannot save him from the fire. He will BURN!
02:59:16,030 --> 02:59:18,130
Stay still, son. Stay still.
02:59:20,080 --> 02:59:28,100
Tell me, wretch - How now shall you challenge me?
02:59:32,090 --> 02:59:39,000
You have nothing left, but your DEATH!
02:59:42,070 --> 02:59:46,070
Bain! Look at me. You look at me.
02:59:52,010 --> 02:59:53,080
A little to your left.
02:59:55,070 --> 02:59:56,060
That's it!
03:00:56,030 --> 03:00:59,000
What was that? What happened?
03:00:59,000 --> 03:01:00,040
It fell. I saw it.
03:01:04,020 --> 03:01:10,110
It’s dead. Smaug is dead!
03:01:11,100 --> 03:01:16,010
By my beard! I think he’s right! Look there!
03:01:18,080 --> 03:01:22,030
The ravens of Erebor are returning to the mountain!
03:01:23,090 --> 03:01:25,120
Aye - Word will spread.
03:01:26,060 --> 03:01:31,140
Before long every soul in Middle-earth will know - The dragon is dead!
03:02:03,040 --> 03:02:04,020
DA!
03:02:12,120 --> 03:02:15,020
It was Bard! He killed the dragon!
03:02:15,020 --> 03:02:16,120
I saw it with my own eyes.
03:02:17,060 --> 03:02:18,140
He brought the beast down.
03:02:18,140 --> 03:02:21,000
He shot him dead, with a black arrow.
03:02:33,140 --> 03:02:36,130
ALL HAIL - TO THE DRAGONSLAYER!
03:02:38,000 --> 03:02:41,010
ALL HAIL - KING BARD!
03:02:43,010 --> 03:02:44,100
I have said it many times...
03:02:45,020 --> 03:02:49,030
This is a man of noble stock. A born leader!
03:02:49,030 --> 03:02:52,130
Do not call me that! I’m not the master of this town.
03:02:54,000 --> 03:02:56,020
Those who can stand, tend to the wounded.
03:02:56,080 --> 03:02:58,020
And those who have strength left - follow me.
03:02:59,000 --> 03:03:00,070
We must salvage what we can.
03:03:00,090 --> 03:03:02,020
What then? What do we do then?
03:03:06,130 --> 03:03:07,120
We find shelter.
03:03:26,000 --> 03:03:29,010
It is here in these halls, I know it.
03:03:29,050 --> 03:03:31,000
We have searched and searched…
03:03:31,000 --> 03:03:32,000
Not well enough!
03:03:32,000 --> 03:03:35,020
Thorin, we all would see the stone returned.
03:03:35,020 --> 03:03:37,090
And yet, it is still not FOUND!
03:03:41,000 --> 03:03:44,090
Do you doubt the loyalty of anyone here?
03:03:53,090 --> 03:03:58,000
The Arkenstone is the birthright of our people.
03:03:59,030 --> 03:04:01,100
It is the King’s Jewel.
03:04:03,070 --> 03:04:04,130
AM I NOT THE KING?!
03:04:09,060 --> 03:04:18,030
If anyone should find it and withhold it from me, I will be avenged.
03:04:33,090 --> 03:04:37,110
Dragon-sickness - I’ve seen it before.
03:04:40,030 --> 03:04:43,040
That look. That terrible need.
03:04:45,020 --> 03:04:48,030
It is a fierce and jealous love, Bilbo.
03:04:51,040 --> 03:04:52,120
It sent his grandfather mad.
03:04:54,100 --> 03:04:58,120
Balin, if-if Thorin...had the Arkenstone...
03:05:01,020 --> 03:05:06,050
...if it was found - Would it help?
03:05:09,060 --> 03:05:12,100
That stone crowns all.
03:05:14,000 --> 03:05:16,070
It is the summit of this great wealth...
03:05:17,060 --> 03:05:20,010
bestowing power upon he who bears it.
03:05:20,130 --> 03:05:22,080
Will it stay his madness?
03:05:24,070 --> 03:05:29,080
No, lad; I fear it would make it worse.
03:05:32,080 --> 03:05:36,080
Perhaps it is best that it remains lost.
03:05:50,120 --> 03:05:51,070
What is that?!
03:05:53,100 --> 03:05:54,090
In your hand!
03:05:55,010 --> 03:05:55,120
It-It’s nothing.
03:05:56,100 --> 03:05:57,060
Show me.
03:05:59,090 --> 03:06:00,020
It…
03:06:07,110 --> 03:06:09,120
I picked it up in Beorn’s garden.
03:06:14,070 --> 03:06:16,000
You’ve carried it all this way.
03:06:16,070 --> 03:06:19,080
I’m gonna plant it in my garden, in Bag End.
03:06:22,100 --> 03:06:25,100
That’s a poor price to take back to the Shire.
03:06:27,110 --> 03:06:29,010
One day it’ll grow.
03:06:30,120 --> 03:06:32,050
And everytime I look at it, I’ll remember...
03:06:34,080 --> 03:06:36,110
Remember everything that happened, the good, the bad.
03:06:38,050 --> 03:06:40,010
And how lucky I am that I made it home.
03:06:49,100 --> 03:06:51,060
Thorin, I...
03:06:51,060 --> 03:06:54,120
Thorin, survivors...from Laketown.
03:06:55,110 --> 03:06:57,030
They are streaming into Dale.
03:06:59,000 --> 03:07:00,030
There’s hundreds of them.
03:07:02,070 --> 03:07:03,120
Call everyone to the gate.
03:07:05,080 --> 03:07:07,060
TO THE GATE! NOW!
03:07:20,030 --> 03:07:22,040
I want this fortress made safe by sunup.
03:07:23,070 --> 03:07:26,140
This mountain was hard won - I will not see it taken again.
03:07:27,040 --> 03:07:29,040
The people of Laketown have nothing.
03:07:29,140 --> 03:07:33,070
They came to us in need. They have lost everything.
03:07:34,000 --> 03:07:40,010
Do not tell me what they have lost. I know well enough their hardship.
03:07:42,000 --> 03:07:44,120
Those who have lived through dragonfire should rejoice.
03:07:47,020 --> 03:07:48,120
They have much to be grateful for.
03:07:54,100 --> 03:08:00,040
More stone! BRING MORE STONE TO THE GATE!
03:08:22,080 --> 03:08:24,080
The children, the wounded and the women come first.
03:08:25,000 --> 03:08:26,040
Here you are.
03:09:06,210 --> 03:09:09,040
My Lord Thranduil, we did not look...
03:09:09,100 --> 03:09:11,190
- ...to see you here.
- I heard you needed aid.
03:09:30,160 --> 03:09:31,200
Here you go.
03:09:33,020 --> 03:09:34,070
Pass it back.
03:09:35,040 --> 03:09:36,070
Another one.
03:09:40,080 --> 03:09:41,080
You have saved us.
03:09:42,020 --> 03:09:43,130
I do not know how to thank you.
03:09:43,190 --> 03:09:45,150
Your gratitude is misplaced.
03:09:46,120 --> 03:09:48,110
I did not come on your behalf.
03:09:48,170 --> 03:09:51,140
I came to reclaim something of mine.
03:09:58,190 --> 03:10:02,060
There are gems in the Mountain
that I, too, desire.
03:10:03,010 --> 03:10:06,030
White gems of pure starlight.
03:10:06,210 --> 03:10:09,060
The White Gems of Lasgalen.
03:10:11,040 --> 03:10:14,030
I know an Elf Lord who will pay
a pretty price for these.
03:10:20,020 --> 03:10:21,170
Wait! Please wait!
03:10:25,040 --> 03:10:27,140
You would go to war
over a handful of gems?
03:10:27,200 --> 03:10:31,110
The heirlooms of my people
are not lightly forsaken.
03:10:31,170 --> 03:10:33,050
We are allies in this.
03:10:34,170 --> 03:10:35,110
My people...
03:10:35,170 --> 03:10:38,100
...also have a claim
upon the riches in that Mountain.
03:10:38,230 --> 03:10:39,170
Let me...
03:10:39,230 --> 03:10:41,050
...speak with Thorin.
03:10:41,190 --> 03:10:44,050
You would try to reason with the Dwarf?
03:10:44,110 --> 03:10:45,190
To avoid war?
03:10:46,150 --> 03:10:47,160
Yes.
03:10:48,130 --> 03:10:50,110
Not a bad night's work.
03:10:52,130 --> 03:10:53,190
Come on.
03:11:06,180 --> 03:11:09,080
Hail, Thorin, son of Thrain.
03:11:09,140 --> 03:11:12,020
We are glad to find you alive beyond hope.
03:11:12,080 --> 03:11:13,190
Why do you come to the gates...
03:11:14,010 --> 03:11:16,120
...of the King under the Mountain
armed for war?
03:11:16,180 --> 03:11:19,150
Why does the King under the Mountain
fence himself in...
03:11:20,080 --> 03:11:22,160
...like a robber in his hold?
03:11:23,080 --> 03:11:26,100
Perhaps it is because
I am expecting to be robbed.
03:11:27,110 --> 03:11:28,120
My lord...
03:11:29,090 --> 03:11:31,080
...we have not come to rob you...
03:11:31,140 --> 03:11:33,200
...but to seek fair settlement.
03:11:34,110 --> 03:11:36,090
Will you not speak with me?
03:12:11,100 --> 03:12:12,180
I am listening.
03:12:13,200 --> 03:12:15,160
On behalf of the people of Lake-town...
03:12:15,220 --> 03:12:17,230
...I ask that you honor your pledge.
03:12:18,140 --> 03:12:19,210
A share of the treasure...
03:12:20,030 --> 03:12:22,030
...so that they might rebuild their lives.
03:12:23,010 --> 03:12:25,080
I will not treat with any man...
03:12:25,220 --> 03:12:28,090
...while an armed host lies before my door.
03:12:29,130 --> 03:12:32,020
My people offered you help.
03:12:33,160 --> 03:12:37,060
And in return, you brought upon them
only ruin and death.
03:12:37,120 --> 03:12:40,180
When did Lake-town come to our aid
but for the promise of rich reward?
03:12:41,000 --> 03:12:42,060
A bargain was struck!
03:12:42,120 --> 03:12:43,180
A bargain?
03:12:44,000 --> 03:12:46,210
What choice did we have
but to barter our birthright...
03:12:47,030 --> 03:12:48,220
...for blankets and food?
To ransom...
03:12:49,040 --> 03:12:51,090
...our future in exchange
for our freedom?
03:12:52,050 --> 03:12:54,100
You call that a fair trade?
03:12:56,130 --> 03:12:57,210
Tell me...
03:12:58,030 --> 03:12:59,180
...Bard the Dragon-Slayer...
03:13:01,130 --> 03:13:04,000
...why should I honor such terms?
03:13:06,040 --> 03:13:08,030
Because you gave us your word.
03:13:12,090 --> 03:13:14,130
Does that mean nothing?
03:13:29,030 --> 03:13:30,070
Be gone!
03:13:31,040 --> 03:13:32,040
Ere our arrows...
03:13:32,070 --> 03:13:33,100
...fly!
03:13:51,100 --> 03:13:52,170
What are you doing?
03:13:54,060 --> 03:13:56,220
You cannot go to war.
03:13:58,020 --> 03:14:00,090
- This does not concern you.
- Excuse me...
03:14:00,150 --> 03:14:04,030
...but in case you haven't noticed,
there is an army of Elves out there.
03:14:04,090 --> 03:14:07,040
Not to mention several hundred
angry fishermen.
03:14:08,010 --> 03:14:09,120
We are, in fact, outnumbered.
03:14:12,040 --> 03:14:13,090
Not for much longer.
03:14:15,040 --> 03:14:16,040
What does that mean?
03:14:16,100 --> 03:14:18,040
It means, Master Baggins...
03:14:21,050 --> 03:14:23,130
...you should never underestimate Dwarves.
03:14:27,060 --> 03:14:29,010
We have reclaimed Erebor.
03:14:30,070 --> 03:14:31,130
Now...
03:14:31,190 --> 03:14:33,090
...we defend it.
03:14:51,060 --> 03:14:53,020
He will give us nothing.
03:14:54,120 --> 03:14:55,170
Such a pity.
03:14:55,230 --> 03:14:56,140
Still...
03:14:56,200 --> 03:14:59,080
- ...you tried.
- I do not understand.
03:15:00,130 --> 03:15:01,150
Why?
03:15:02,090 --> 03:15:03,210
Why would he risk war?
03:15:17,070 --> 03:15:19,140
It is fruitless to reason with them.
03:15:19,200 --> 03:15:20,200
They understand...
03:15:21,020 --> 03:15:22,100
...only one thing.
03:15:26,100 --> 03:15:27,150
We attack at dawn.
03:15:30,200 --> 03:15:32,080
Are you with us?
03:16:04,070 --> 03:16:05,070
Aye.
03:16:09,040 --> 03:16:11,140
Master Baggins, come here.
03:16:28,200 --> 03:16:30,130
You're going to need this.
03:16:32,010 --> 03:16:33,070
Put it on.
03:16:38,070 --> 03:16:41,010
This vest is made of silver steel.
03:16:43,130 --> 03:16:44,220
Mithril...
03:16:45,040 --> 03:16:47,080
...it was called by my forebears.
03:16:50,110 --> 03:16:52,130
No blade can pierce it.
03:17:03,210 --> 03:17:04,210
I look absurd.
03:17:05,030 --> 03:17:07,030
I'm not a warrior, I'm a Hobbit.
03:17:07,090 --> 03:17:08,200
It is a gift.
03:17:10,090 --> 03:17:11,220
A token of our friendship.
03:17:17,160 --> 03:17:20,030
- Unh!
- Let me through!
03:17:21,120 --> 03:17:22,200
Make way!
03:17:38,070 --> 03:17:41,050
You must set aside
your petty grievances with the Dwarves.
03:17:41,130 --> 03:17:42,140
War is coming!
03:17:42,160 --> 03:17:43,190
The cesspits...
03:17:43,190 --> 03:17:45,040
...of Dol Guldur have been...
03:17:45,040 --> 03:17:46,040
...emptied.
03:17:47,000 --> 03:17:49,000
You're all in mortal danger.
03:17:49,120 --> 03:17:50,200
What are you talking about?
03:17:51,020 --> 03:17:52,040
You know nothing...
03:17:52,100 --> 03:17:53,160
...of Wizards.
03:17:53,220 --> 03:17:56,200
They are like winter thunder
on a wild wind...
03:17:56,200 --> 03:18:00,100
...rolling in from a distance,
breaking hard in alarm.
03:18:02,030 --> 03:18:04,050
But sometimes a storm...
03:18:04,110 --> 03:18:06,020
...is just a storm.
03:18:06,060 --> 03:18:07,180
Not this time.
03:18:08,000 --> 03:18:10,110
Armies of Orcs are on the move.
03:18:10,170 --> 03:18:13,010
These are fighters.
They have been bred for war.
03:18:13,070 --> 03:18:15,220
Our enemy has summoned his full strength.
03:18:15,220 --> 03:18:17,110
Why show his hand now?
03:18:17,110 --> 03:18:18,170
Because we forced him.
03:18:19,110 --> 03:18:22,150
We forced him when the Company of Thorin
set out to reclaim...
03:18:22,150 --> 03:18:24,000
...their homeland.
03:18:24,060 --> 03:18:26,210
The Dwarves were never meant
to reach Erebor.
03:18:27,000 --> 03:18:29,100
Azog the Defiler was sent to kill them.
03:18:30,020 --> 03:18:33,140
His master seeks control of the Mountain.
03:18:34,070 --> 03:18:35,220
Not just for the treasure within...
03:18:36,020 --> 03:18:39,160
...but for where it lies,
its strategic position.
03:18:39,220 --> 03:18:43,000
These Orc armies you speak of,
Mithrandir...
03:18:43,230 --> 03:18:45,100
...where are they?
03:19:54,140 --> 03:19:56,110
Come on, let's get those blades sharpened.
03:19:56,170 --> 03:19:58,210
Aye. Blasted Elves.
03:19:59,030 --> 03:20:01,010
- You swing an ax at it?
- No, brother.
03:20:19,090 --> 03:20:20,120
You should be inside.
03:20:22,020 --> 03:20:24,050
Out of the wind.
03:20:24,050 --> 03:20:25,180
No, I...
03:20:27,100 --> 03:20:30,110
...needed some air.
Place still stinks of dragon.
03:20:37,000 --> 03:20:38,040
The Elves have been moving...
03:20:38,070 --> 03:20:40,100
- ...their archers into position.
- Ah.
03:20:42,180 --> 03:20:44,000
The battle will be over...
03:20:44,060 --> 03:20:45,090
...by tomorrow's eve.
03:20:46,060 --> 03:20:48,080
Though I doubt we will live
to see it.
03:20:50,140 --> 03:20:54,100
No, these are dark days.
03:20:55,200 --> 03:20:57,200
Dark days indeed.
03:21:00,000 --> 03:21:01,020
Hmm.
03:21:02,120 --> 03:21:05,130
No one could blame a soul
for wishing themselves elsewhere.
03:21:11,200 --> 03:21:13,140
Must be nearing midnight.
03:21:13,200 --> 03:21:15,100
Bombur's got the next watch.
03:21:16,090 --> 03:21:18,050
It'll take a bit to wake him.
03:21:20,180 --> 03:21:21,180
Bofur?
03:21:24,190 --> 03:21:26,220
I will see you in the morning.
03:21:28,230 --> 03:21:30,180
Goodbye, Bilbo.
03:22:10,140 --> 03:22:11,140
Bowman!
03:22:12,200 --> 03:22:13,200
Do you agree?
03:22:14,020 --> 03:22:16,100
Is gold so important to you?
03:22:17,050 --> 03:22:19,170
Would you buy it
with the blood of Dwarves?
03:22:20,110 --> 03:22:21,120
It won't come to that.
03:22:21,180 --> 03:22:24,120
- This is a fight they cannot win.
- That won't stop them.
03:22:24,180 --> 03:22:27,160
You think the Dwarves will surrender?
They won't.
03:22:27,220 --> 03:22:29,170
They will fight to the death.
03:22:29,230 --> 03:22:31,100
Bilbo Baggins.
03:22:31,230 --> 03:22:33,050
If I'm not mistaken...
03:22:33,110 --> 03:22:35,210
...this is the Halfling
who stole the keys...
03:22:36,030 --> 03:22:37,180
...to my dungeons from under...
03:22:38,000 --> 03:22:39,200
...the nose of my guards.
03:22:42,080 --> 03:22:43,100
Yes.
03:22:44,100 --> 03:22:45,040
Sorry...
03:22:45,100 --> 03:22:46,140
...about that.
03:22:47,030 --> 03:22:48,030
I came...
03:22:49,210 --> 03:22:50,210
...to give you...
03:22:51,030 --> 03:22:52,030
...this.
03:22:56,210 --> 03:22:58,180
The Heart of the Mountain.
03:23:00,170 --> 03:23:02,000
The King's Jewel.
03:23:03,120 --> 03:23:05,120
And worth a king's ransom.
03:23:07,100 --> 03:23:08,040
How is this...
03:23:08,100 --> 03:23:09,130
...yours to give?
03:23:09,190 --> 03:23:11,190
I took it as my 14th share
of the treasure.
03:23:13,100 --> 03:23:14,130
Why would you do this?
03:23:14,190 --> 03:23:16,010
You owe us no loyalty.
03:23:16,070 --> 03:23:18,000
I'm not doing it for you.
03:23:19,200 --> 03:23:22,020
I know that Dwarves can be obstinate...
03:23:22,140 --> 03:23:23,210
...and pigheaded...
03:23:24,140 --> 03:23:25,170
...and difficult.
03:23:25,230 --> 03:23:27,180
They're suspicious and secretive...
03:23:28,000 --> 03:23:29,130
...with the worst manners...
03:23:29,190 --> 03:23:31,200
...imaginable,
but they are also brave...
03:23:32,020 --> 03:23:33,080
...and kind...
03:23:34,220 --> 03:23:36,060
...and loyal to a fault.
03:23:37,110 --> 03:23:38,110
I've grown...
03:23:38,120 --> 03:23:41,060
...very fond of them,
and I would save them if I can.
03:23:42,020 --> 03:23:43,030
Now, Thorin...
03:23:43,090 --> 03:23:45,150
...values this stone above all else.
03:23:45,210 --> 03:23:48,060
In exchange for its return,
he will give you...
03:23:48,120 --> 03:23:49,140
...what you are owed.
03:23:49,200 --> 03:23:50,200
There will be no need...
03:23:51,010 --> 03:23:52,010
...for war.
03:23:57,110 --> 03:23:58,110
Rest up tonight.
03:23:58,170 --> 03:24:01,090
- You must leave on the morrow.
- What?
03:24:01,150 --> 03:24:04,130
- Get as far away from here as possible.
- I'm not leaving.
03:24:04,190 --> 03:24:07,130
You picked me as the 14th man.
I'm not leaving the Company.
03:24:07,190 --> 03:24:09,190
There is no Company. Not anymore.
03:24:10,010 --> 03:24:12,130
Imagine what Thorin will do
when he finds out what you've done.
03:24:12,180 --> 03:24:14,080
I'm not afraid of Thorin.
03:24:14,140 --> 03:24:15,210
Well, you should be.
03:24:16,110 --> 03:24:17,110
Don't underestimate...
03:24:17,180 --> 03:24:19,150
...the evil of gold.
03:24:19,210 --> 03:24:20,210
Gold over which...
03:24:21,040 --> 03:24:23,060
...a serpent has long brooded.
03:24:23,120 --> 03:24:26,000
Dragon-sickness seeps
into the hearts of all...
03:24:26,070 --> 03:24:27,230
...who come near this Mountain.
03:24:29,140 --> 03:24:30,140
Almost all. Heh.
03:25:01,180 --> 03:25:03,150
I will put the next one between your eyes.
03:25:28,080 --> 03:25:29,150
We have come to tell you...
03:25:29,210 --> 03:25:33,030
...payment of your debt has been offered...
03:25:33,090 --> 03:25:34,200
...and accepted.
03:25:36,220 --> 03:25:37,220
What payment?
03:25:39,020 --> 03:25:40,090
I gave you nothing.
03:25:41,030 --> 03:25:42,210
You have nothing.
03:25:49,190 --> 03:25:51,060
We have this.
03:25:55,030 --> 03:25:56,130
They have the Arkenstone.
03:25:58,040 --> 03:25:59,070
Thieves!
03:25:59,220 --> 03:26:03,010
How came you by the heirloom
of our house?
03:26:03,070 --> 03:26:04,190
That stone belongs to the king!
03:26:06,090 --> 03:26:07,150
And the king may have it...
03:26:11,180 --> 03:26:15,170
But first he must honor his word.
03:26:16,170 --> 03:26:19,150
The Arkenstone is in this Mountain!
03:26:19,210 --> 03:26:21,000
It is a trick!
03:26:21,060 --> 03:26:22,210
It's no trick.
03:26:24,010 --> 03:26:25,080
The stone is real.
03:26:26,210 --> 03:26:28,110
I gave it to them.
03:26:36,160 --> 03:26:37,160
You?
03:26:40,010 --> 03:26:42,060
I took it as my 14th share.
03:26:44,040 --> 03:26:46,000
You would steal from me?
03:26:46,060 --> 03:26:47,100
Steal from you? No.
03:26:47,160 --> 03:26:50,210
No, I may be a burglar,
but I like to think I'm an honest one.
03:26:54,020 --> 03:26:56,000
I'll let it stand against my claim.
03:26:56,120 --> 03:26:58,070
Against your claim?
03:27:00,010 --> 03:27:01,170
Your claim.
03:27:02,140 --> 03:27:05,130
You have no claim over me,
you miserable rat!
03:27:08,020 --> 03:27:09,230
I was going to give it to you.
03:27:10,230 --> 03:27:13,220
- Many times I wanted to, but...
- But what...
03:27:14,040 --> 03:27:15,110
...thief?
03:27:16,010 --> 03:27:17,230
You are changed, Thorin.
03:27:18,050 --> 03:27:19,050
The Dwarf I met...
03:27:19,110 --> 03:27:22,080
...in Bag End would never have
gone back on his word.
03:27:22,140 --> 03:27:23,200
Would never have doubted...
03:27:24,020 --> 03:27:25,160
...the loyalty of his kin!
03:27:26,100 --> 03:27:28,160
Do not speak to me...
03:27:29,070 --> 03:27:30,150
...of loyalty.
03:27:34,100 --> 03:27:35,160
Throw him from the rampart!
03:27:44,060 --> 03:27:45,070
Did you not hear me?
03:27:48,210 --> 03:27:51,090
I will do it myself. Curse you!
03:27:51,220 --> 03:27:52,120
No!
03:27:52,180 --> 03:27:54,000
Cursed be the Wizard...
03:27:54,060 --> 03:27:57,020
- ...that forced you on us!
- If you don't like my burglar...
03:27:57,080 --> 03:27:58,080
...then please...
03:27:58,110 --> 03:27:59,110
...don't damage him.
03:27:59,140 --> 03:28:00,200
Return him to me.
03:28:05,160 --> 03:28:09,160
You're not making a very splendid figure
as King under the Mountain...
03:28:09,220 --> 03:28:13,180
...are you, Thorin...
03:28:14,000 --> 03:28:15,050
...son of Thrain?
03:28:22,030 --> 03:28:24,080
Never again will I have dealings
with Wizards!
03:28:24,140 --> 03:28:25,040
Go.
03:28:25,100 --> 03:28:26,100
Or Shire rats!
03:28:31,080 --> 03:28:32,230
Are we resolved?
03:28:33,220 --> 03:28:37,030
The return of the Arkenstone
for what was promised?
03:28:42,180 --> 03:28:44,080
Will you have peace...
03:28:46,020 --> 03:28:47,100
...or war?
03:28:58,230 --> 03:29:00,210
I will have war.
03:29:13,190 --> 03:29:15,110
Ironfoot.
03:29:22,170 --> 03:29:24,000
[Unsure]
03:29:38,020 --> 03:29:39,050
Who is that?
03:29:39,180 --> 03:29:41,000
He doesn't look very happy.
03:29:41,060 --> 03:29:44,000
It is Dain, Lord of the Iron Hills.
03:29:44,080 --> 03:29:45,080
Thorin's...
03:29:45,080 --> 03:29:46,230
- ...cousin.
- Are they alike?
03:29:48,010 --> 03:29:51,160
I've always found Thorin
the more reasonable of the two.
03:30:01,220 --> 03:30:03,010
Good morning.
03:30:03,070 --> 03:30:04,200
How are we all?
03:30:08,110 --> 03:30:09,190
I have a wee proposition...
03:30:10,020 --> 03:30:12,090
...if you wouldn't mind giving me
a few moments...
03:30:12,150 --> 03:30:13,210
...of your time.
03:30:15,030 --> 03:30:17,040
Would you consider...
03:30:19,040 --> 03:30:20,100
...just sodding off?
03:30:21,180 --> 03:30:22,180
All of you!
03:30:23,000 --> 03:30:24,070
Right now!
03:30:24,090 --> 03:30:25,170
Stand fast.
03:30:27,000 --> 03:30:29,050
Come now, Lord Dain.
03:30:29,190 --> 03:30:31,170
Gandalf the Grey.
03:30:33,100 --> 03:30:34,170
Tell this rabble...
03:30:34,170 --> 03:30:36,210
...to leave, or I'll water...
03:30:36,230 --> 03:30:38,100
...the ground with their blood!
03:30:41,130 --> 03:30:43,050
No need for war...
03:30:43,050 --> 03:30:45,200
...between Dwarves, Men and Elves.
03:30:46,030 --> 03:30:47,110
A legion of Orcs...
03:30:47,120 --> 03:30:48,170
...march on the Mountain.
03:30:49,110 --> 03:30:50,100
Stand your army down.
03:30:50,100 --> 03:30:53,040
I will not stand down before any Elf.
03:30:53,210 --> 03:30:57,010
Not least this faithless Woodland sprite.
03:30:57,210 --> 03:31:00,220
He wishes nothing but ill upon my people.
03:31:02,080 --> 03:31:03,100
If he chooses...
03:31:03,100 --> 03:31:05,180
...to stand between me and my kin...
03:31:06,160 --> 03:31:08,230
...I'll split his pretty head open!
03:31:09,150 --> 03:31:11,180
See if he's still smirking then.
03:31:14,020 --> 03:31:16,180
He's clearly mad. Like his cousin!
03:31:16,180 --> 03:31:19,090
You hear that, lads? We're on!
03:31:20,000 --> 03:31:22,170
Let's give these bastards
a good hammering!
03:31:42,160 --> 03:31:44,100
Oh, come on.
03:32:01,160 --> 03:32:04,150
The hordes of hell are upon us!
03:32:04,180 --> 03:32:08,030
To battle! To battle, sons of Durin!
03:32:14,000 --> 03:32:16,020
I'm going over the wall.
Who's coming with me?
03:32:16,080 --> 03:32:18,010
- Aye!
- Come on, let's go!
03:32:18,020 --> 03:32:19,140
- Stand down.
- What?
03:32:20,030 --> 03:32:21,050
Are we to do nothing?
03:32:21,100 --> 03:32:23,220
I said, stand down!
03:32:28,100 --> 03:32:29,040
The Elves.
03:32:30,030 --> 03:32:31,180
Will they not fight?
03:32:34,170 --> 03:32:35,130
Thranduil!
03:32:35,130 --> 03:32:36,210
This is madness!
03:33:26,050 --> 03:33:27,050
Charge!
03:33:27,110 --> 03:33:28,110
Yes!
03:33:57,130 --> 03:33:58,220
Azog.
03:34:00,100 --> 03:34:02,130
He's trying to cut us off.
03:34:02,130 --> 03:34:04,110
Fall back to Dale!
03:34:04,170 --> 03:34:05,200
[Unsure]
03:34:09,210 --> 03:34:10,210
To the city!
03:34:11,000 --> 03:34:13,000
Bilbo! This way!
03:35:13,100 --> 03:35:14,100
You buggers!
03:35:27,210 --> 03:35:29,060
Where's Thorin?
03:35:30,140 --> 03:35:32,130
We need him! Where is he?
03:35:45,190 --> 03:35:47,150
Fall back!
03:36:08,170 --> 03:36:10,110
They are dying out there.
03:36:10,110 --> 03:36:12,150
Dain is surrounded.
03:36:12,210 --> 03:36:14,140
They're being slaughtered, Thorin.
03:36:17,020 --> 03:36:18,130
Many die in war.
03:36:19,190 --> 03:36:21,090
Life is cheap.
03:36:23,220 --> 03:36:24,160
But a treasure...
03:36:24,160 --> 03:36:27,120
...such as this cannot be counted...
03:36:27,120 --> 03:36:28,150
...in lives lost.
03:36:31,180 --> 03:36:33,060
It is worth...
03:36:33,120 --> 03:36:36,000
...all the blood we can spend.
03:36:37,160 --> 03:36:40,020
You sit here in these vast halls...
03:36:40,080 --> 03:36:42,190
...with a crown upon your head...
03:36:43,130 --> 03:36:46,150
...and yet you are lesser now
than you have ever been.
03:36:48,110 --> 03:36:50,090
Do not speak to me...
03:36:52,060 --> 03:36:54,170
...as if I were some lowly Dwarf Lord...
03:36:55,230 --> 03:36:56,230
...as if...
03:36:57,040 --> 03:36:59,150
...I were still...
03:37:02,150 --> 03:37:04,030
...Thorin...
03:37:04,200 --> 03:37:06,190
...Oakenshield.
03:37:08,080 --> 03:37:11,070
- I am your king!
- You were always my king.
03:37:11,180 --> 03:37:13,150
You used to know that once.
03:37:14,230 --> 03:37:17,130
You cannot see what you have become.
03:37:31,000 --> 03:37:32,030
Fall back!
03:37:32,210 --> 03:37:33,220
Fall back...
03:37:34,040 --> 03:37:35,200
...to the Mountain!
03:37:38,130 --> 03:37:39,230
Fall back!
03:38:22,120 --> 03:38:24,010
I will not hide...
03:38:24,070 --> 03:38:25,150
...behind a wall of stone...
03:38:25,210 --> 03:38:28,190
...while others fight our battles for us!
03:38:32,120 --> 03:38:34,220
It is not in my blood, Thorin.
03:38:39,170 --> 03:38:41,020
No.
03:38:41,080 --> 03:38:42,180
It is not.
03:38:44,200 --> 03:38:47,010
We are sons of Durin.
03:38:50,010 --> 03:38:51,130
And Durin's Folk...
03:38:52,220 --> 03:38:55,090
...do not flee from a fight.
03:39:18,070 --> 03:39:22,040
I have no right to ask this of any of you.
03:39:27,040 --> 03:39:29,010
But will you follow me...
03:39:30,120 --> 03:39:32,040
...one last time?
03:40:09,100 --> 03:40:10,100
Thorin.
03:40:34,060 --> 03:40:35,140
To the king!
03:40:36,060 --> 03:40:38,020
To the king!
03:41:01,120 --> 03:41:03,230
Any man who wants to give their last...
03:41:04,150 --> 03:41:06,030
...follow me!
03:41:09,210 --> 03:41:10,220
Dain!
03:41:11,200 --> 03:41:12,230
Thorin!
03:41:17,080 --> 03:41:18,080
What took you so long?
03:41:22,220 --> 03:41:24,220
There's too many of these buggers, Thorin.
03:41:26,090 --> 03:41:27,130
I hope you've got a plan.
03:41:29,010 --> 03:41:30,040
Aye.
03:41:30,130 --> 03:41:32,040
We're going to take out their leader.
03:41:54,160 --> 03:41:56,090
Come on, Bombur. Get up.
03:42:04,090 --> 03:42:06,060
[Unclear]! Help!
03:42:15,020 --> 03:42:16,020
Gandalf!
03:42:23,220 --> 03:42:24,220
It's Thorin.
03:42:25,160 --> 03:42:26,170
And Fili, Kili...
03:42:27,080 --> 03:42:28,170
...and Dwalin.
03:42:29,060 --> 03:42:31,100
He's taking his best warriors.
03:42:32,000 --> 03:42:33,050
To do what?
03:42:34,020 --> 03:42:36,110
To cut the head off the snake.
03:42:57,020 --> 03:42:58,120
Gandalf!
03:42:59,050 --> 03:43:00,100
Legolas.
03:43:01,070 --> 03:43:02,130
Legolas Greenleaf.
03:43:03,110 --> 03:43:04,160
There is a second army.
03:43:04,220 --> 03:43:07,210
Bolg leads a force of Gundabad Orcs.
They are almost upon us.
03:43:08,030 --> 03:43:09,140
Gundabad.
03:43:10,190 --> 03:43:12,110
This was their plan all along.
03:43:12,150 --> 03:43:16,230
Azog engages our forces,
then Bolg sweeps in from the North.
03:43:17,140 --> 03:43:18,120
The North?
03:43:18,130 --> 03:43:19,210
Where is the North...
03:43:20,000 --> 03:43:22,030
- ...exactly?
- Ravenhill.
03:43:23,110 --> 03:43:24,110
Ravenhill?
03:43:24,130 --> 03:43:26,030
Thorin is up there.
03:43:26,030 --> 03:43:28,030
And Fili and Kili. They're all up there.
03:43:30,080 --> 03:43:32,100
My lord, dispatch this force...
03:43:32,100 --> 03:43:34,070
...to Ravenhill.
The Dwarves are about...
03:43:34,070 --> 03:43:35,050
...to be overrun.
03:43:35,050 --> 03:43:36,080
Thorin must be warned.
03:43:36,180 --> 03:43:38,070
By all means, warn him.
03:43:38,110 --> 03:43:40,220
I have spent enough Elvish blood
in defense of...
03:43:40,220 --> 03:43:43,060
...this accursed land. No more.
03:43:43,080 --> 03:43:44,190
Thranduil?
03:43:45,190 --> 03:43:46,190
I'll go.
03:43:47,150 --> 03:43:48,170
Don't be ridiculous.
03:43:48,230 --> 03:43:50,090
You'll never make it.
03:43:50,110 --> 03:43:51,110
Why not?
03:43:52,000 --> 03:43:54,130
Because they will see you coming
and kill you.
03:43:55,100 --> 03:43:56,180
No, they won't.
03:43:58,070 --> 03:43:59,070
They won't see me.
03:44:00,150 --> 03:44:02,070
It's out of the question.
03:44:03,070 --> 03:44:04,070
I won't allow it.
03:44:05,070 --> 03:44:07,170
I'm not asking you to allow it, Gandalf.
03:44:34,080 --> 03:44:35,090
Where is he?
03:44:40,190 --> 03:44:41,170
It looks empty.
03:44:43,150 --> 03:44:45,030
I think Azog has fled.
03:44:46,180 --> 03:44:47,200
I don't think so.
03:44:51,040 --> 03:44:51,210
Fili...
03:44:53,070 --> 03:44:54,100
...take your brother.
03:44:54,160 --> 03:44:56,010
Scout out the towers.
03:44:57,020 --> 03:44:58,160
Keep low and out of sight.
03:44:59,020 --> 03:45:00,210
If you see something, report back.
03:45:00,210 --> 03:45:02,120
Do not engage. Do you understand?
03:45:02,120 --> 03:45:03,210
We have company.
03:45:04,100 --> 03:45:05,110
Goblin mercenaries.
03:45:06,220 --> 03:45:08,130
We'll take care of them. Go!
03:45:09,040 --> 03:45:10,010
Go!
03:45:11,130 --> 03:45:12,070
Come on!
03:45:30,100 --> 03:45:31,120
Hey. Stay here.
03:45:31,120 --> 03:45:32,180
Search the lower levels.
03:45:34,070 --> 03:45:35,190
I've got this.
03:45:44,210 --> 03:45:46,200
Where is that Orc filth?
03:45:49,000 --> 03:45:50,050
Thorin.
03:45:50,190 --> 03:45:51,230
Bilbo.
03:45:52,050 --> 03:45:53,200
You have to leave here. Now.
03:45:54,020 --> 03:45:56,010
Azog has an army attacking
from the North.
03:45:56,070 --> 03:45:57,230
This watchtower will be surrounded.
03:45:57,230 --> 03:46:00,010
- With no way out.
- We are so close.
03:46:00,040 --> 03:46:02,150
That Orc scum is in there.
I say we push on.
03:46:02,150 --> 03:46:05,020
No. That's what he wants.
03:46:05,080 --> 03:46:07,000
He wants to draw us in.
03:46:09,020 --> 03:46:10,060
This is a trap.
03:46:18,220 --> 03:46:20,060
Ah.
03:46:26,070 --> 03:46:28,000
Find Fili and Kili. Call them back.
03:46:28,010 --> 03:46:29,170
Thorin, are you sure about this?
03:46:29,210 --> 03:46:30,180
Do it.
03:46:32,230 --> 03:46:34,160
We'll live to fight another day.
03:46:52,210 --> 03:46:53,070
Oh...
03:47:05,210 --> 03:47:06,120
Go.
03:47:10,170 --> 03:47:11,170
Run!
03:47:32,220 --> 03:47:34,000
Thorin.
03:47:36,180 --> 03:47:38,040
Thorin. No.
03:53:15,070 --> 03:53:17,040
The Eagles are coming.
03:54:07,110 --> 03:54:08,110
Bilbo.
03:54:08,120 --> 03:54:10,110
Don't move. Don't move. Lie still.
03:54:12,030 --> 03:54:14,160
Oh. Mm. Mm.
03:54:15,010 --> 03:54:16,040
I'm glad you are here.
03:54:16,100 --> 03:54:17,230
- Shh, shh.
- Unh.
03:54:19,030 --> 03:54:20,220
I wish to part from you in friendship.
03:54:21,020 --> 03:54:22,020
No.
03:54:22,040 --> 03:54:23,130
You are not going anywhere.
03:54:24,070 --> 03:54:25,150
You're going to live.
03:54:26,020 --> 03:54:27,020
I would take back...
03:54:27,080 --> 03:54:29,040
...my words and my deeds at the Gate.
03:54:31,000 --> 03:54:33,100
You did what only a true friend would do.
03:54:34,210 --> 03:54:35,210
Forgive me.
03:54:38,160 --> 03:54:40,180
I was too blind to see it.
03:54:43,040 --> 03:54:44,170
I am so sorry...
03:54:46,020 --> 03:54:47,230
...that I have led you into such peril.
03:54:49,030 --> 03:54:51,210
No, I'm glad to have shared
in your perils, Thorin.
03:54:52,030 --> 03:54:53,100
Each and every one of them.
03:54:56,200 --> 03:54:59,190
It is far more than any Baggins deserves.
03:55:04,120 --> 03:55:05,120
Farewell...
03:55:06,050 --> 03:55:08,000
...Master Burglar.
03:55:09,080 --> 03:55:11,090
Go back to your books.
03:55:12,130 --> 03:55:14,130
And your armchair.
03:55:16,070 --> 03:55:18,050
Plant your trees.
03:55:18,210 --> 03:55:20,130
Watch them grow.
03:55:25,140 --> 03:55:27,080
If more people...
03:55:28,090 --> 03:55:30,000
...valued home...
03:55:30,060 --> 03:55:32,050
...above gold...
03:55:33,050 --> 03:55:36,190
...this world would be a merrier place.
03:55:40,140 --> 03:55:42,220
No. No, no, no. No.
03:55:43,040 --> 03:55:45,140
Thorin. Thorin, don't you dare.
03:55:47,210 --> 03:55:49,000
Thorin.
03:55:54,230 --> 03:55:57,080
Thorin. Thorin, hold on.
03:55:57,140 --> 03:55:59,030
Hold on, please.
03:55:59,070 --> 03:56:00,110
The Eagles...
03:56:01,030 --> 03:56:03,080
The Eagles... The Eagles are here.
03:56:04,000 --> 03:56:05,040
Thorin?
03:56:08,090 --> 03:56:09,120
The Ea...
03:59:11,170 --> 03:59:14,100
The king has come unto his own.
03:59:15,230 --> 03:59:18,110
Under mountain, under stone.
03:59:21,170 --> 03:59:24,010
Send him now into the deep.
03:59:26,060 --> 03:59:29,030
Unto earth, eternal sleep.
03:59:32,030 --> 03:59:34,080
Under mountain, under stone.
03:59:38,040 --> 03:59:41,090
Through all lands let it be known:
03:59:42,160 --> 03:59:45,210
The king is dead.
03:59:46,100 --> 03:59:49,030
Long live the king!
03:59:49,090 --> 03:59:50,180
Long live the king!
03:59:59,210 --> 04:00:02,010
There is to be a great feast tonight.
04:00:02,070 --> 04:00:05,130
Songs will be sung. Tales will be told.
04:00:06,080 --> 04:00:08,110
And Thorin Oakenshield...
04:00:08,170 --> 04:00:10,180
...will pass into legend.
04:00:12,020 --> 04:00:13,190
I know that's how you must honor him.
04:00:14,010 --> 04:00:15,220
But to me, he was never that.
04:00:17,030 --> 04:00:18,090
He was...
04:00:19,180 --> 04:00:21,010
To me...
04:00:22,200 --> 04:00:24,020
...he was...
04:00:31,050 --> 04:00:34,040
I'll slip quietly away.
Will you tell the others I said goodbye?
04:00:34,100 --> 04:00:36,050
You can tell them yourself.
04:00:52,130 --> 04:00:55,210
If any of you are ever
passing Bag End, uh...
04:01:00,230 --> 04:01:02,060
...tea is at 4.
04:01:03,210 --> 04:01:05,110
There's plenty of it.
04:01:08,020 --> 04:01:10,000
You are welcome anytime.
04:01:15,230 --> 04:01:17,080
Uh...
04:01:18,180 --> 04:01:20,060
Don't bother knocking.
04:02:02,180 --> 04:02:05,070
Ah, the borders of the Shire.
04:02:06,100 --> 04:02:08,070
It is here I must leave you.
04:02:11,080 --> 04:02:12,170
That's a shame.
04:02:15,060 --> 04:02:16,220
I quite liked having...
04:02:17,040 --> 04:02:18,210
...a Wizard around.
04:02:20,030 --> 04:02:21,210
Seems they bring good luck.
04:02:23,000 --> 04:02:26,130
You don't really suppose, do you,
that all your adventures and escapes...
04:02:26,130 --> 04:02:28,180
...were managed by mere luck?
04:02:29,190 --> 04:02:32,230
Magic rings should not be used lightly,
Bilbo.
04:02:33,050 --> 04:02:34,190
Don't take me for a fool.
04:02:34,190 --> 04:02:37,140
I know you found one in the Goblin tunnels.
04:02:37,140 --> 04:02:39,070
And I've kept my eye on you...
04:02:39,070 --> 04:02:40,060
...ever since.
04:02:44,000 --> 04:02:45,140
Well, thank goodness.
04:02:50,070 --> 04:02:51,220
Farewell, Gandalf.
04:02:54,200 --> 04:02:56,060
Farewell.
04:03:03,100 --> 04:03:04,060
You, uh...
04:03:04,120 --> 04:03:08,130
You needn't worry about that ring.
Fell out of my pocket during the battle.
04:03:08,190 --> 04:03:09,220
I lost it.
04:03:10,200 --> 04:03:14,030
You're a very fine person, Mr. Baggins.
04:03:15,020 --> 04:03:17,120
And I'm very fond of you.
04:03:19,050 --> 04:03:21,130
But you're only quite a little fellow...
04:03:22,190 --> 04:03:25,150
...in a wide world after all.
04:03:49,220 --> 04:03:51,160
Any advance on 21?
04:03:52,010 --> 04:03:54,100
Ha, ha! Sold to Mrs. Bolger.
04:03:54,190 --> 04:03:56,190
Somewhere for Fatty to put his feet on.
04:04:00,070 --> 04:04:02,080
Ah... Put that pouf down!
04:04:02,130 --> 04:04:04,010
What is going on?
04:04:04,150 --> 04:04:06,180
Hello, Mr. Bilbo!
04:04:06,210 --> 04:04:08,120
You're not supposed to be here.
04:04:08,180 --> 04:04:09,180
What do you mean?
04:04:10,030 --> 04:04:12,070
On account of you being
presumed dead, and all.
04:04:13,040 --> 04:04:14,150
I am not dead.
04:04:14,210 --> 04:04:16,170
Presumed or otherwise.
04:04:17,200 --> 04:04:19,180
I'm not sure that's permitted.
04:04:20,000 --> 04:04:21,140
Mr. Bilbo!
04:04:22,030 --> 04:04:24,110
This is Shire-made.
04:04:24,130 --> 04:04:26,180
None of your Dwarvish
reproductions here.
04:04:26,180 --> 04:04:27,180
Stop!
04:04:28,000 --> 04:04:29,010
Stop!
04:04:29,090 --> 04:04:31,130
- There's been a mistake!
- Who are you?
04:04:32,010 --> 04:04:34,010
What do you mean, who am-?
You know perfectly well who
04:04:34,010 --> 04:04:36,150
I am, Lobelia Sackville-Baggins.
04:04:36,210 --> 04:04:38,060
This is my home.
04:04:38,120 --> 04:04:41,070
And those are my spoons.
Thank you very much.
04:04:41,070 --> 04:04:42,220
- This is most irregular.
- Excuse me.
04:04:42,220 --> 04:04:46,060
It's been more than 13 months
since the disappearance.
04:04:46,120 --> 04:04:48,030
If you are in fact...
04:04:48,090 --> 04:04:51,100
...Bilbo Baggins and undeceased...
04:04:51,160 --> 04:04:53,050
...can you prove it?
04:04:53,110 --> 04:04:54,110
What?
04:04:54,120 --> 04:04:56,180
Something official with your name...
04:04:56,180 --> 04:04:57,220
...on it would suffice.
04:04:57,220 --> 04:04:59,180
All right. Right.
04:05:02,190 --> 04:05:05,110
A contract of employment as a bur...
04:05:08,000 --> 04:05:09,000
Never mind as what.
04:05:10,170 --> 04:05:11,200
There. My signature.
04:05:12,060 --> 04:05:14,060
Yes, well... Uh...
04:05:14,120 --> 04:05:16,090
Well, it certainly seems to be in order.
04:05:16,150 --> 04:05:17,180
Yes.
04:05:18,000 --> 04:05:20,010
Seems there can be no doubt.
04:05:21,000 --> 04:05:22,210
Who is this you pledged
your service to?
04:05:24,220 --> 04:05:26,110
Thorin Oakenshield?
04:05:29,220 --> 04:05:30,220
He...
04:05:32,000 --> 04:05:33,130
He was my friend.
04:07:28,120 --> 04:07:29,220
No, thank you!
04:07:30,040 --> 04:07:32,080
We don't want any more visitors,
well-wishers...
04:07:32,140 --> 04:07:34,190
...or distant relations!
04:07:35,010 --> 04:07:36,030
And what about...
04:07:36,090 --> 04:07:38,030
...very old friends?
04:07:45,170 --> 04:07:46,170
Gandalf?
04:07:46,220 --> 04:07:48,050
Bilbo Baggins.
04:07:48,110 --> 04:07:50,100
My dear Gandalf! Ha, ha!
04:07:50,160 --> 04:07:51,210
It's good to see you.
04:07:52,030 --> 04:07:55,170
One hundred and 11 years old.
Who would believe it?
04:07:59,230 --> 04:08:01,220
Come on, come in!
04:08:02,040 --> 04:08:04,110
Welcome. Welcome.

“J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit” is a great fan edit of “The Hobbit” trilogy, combining all three files into one.

The subtitles for this fan edit are distributed as two text files, which are supposed to be used with the two-part Blu-ray/DVD ISOs. The film is also available as a single video file, but there is no corresponding subtitles file for it. This program merges the two available subtitle files and produces a single .srt file, which can be used together with the single video file, for example in VLC media player.
