Why is Lyxal so Lyxal?
After being spawned by interspacial imps, the Lyxal have been raiding civilization on and off since the dawn of time. A few hundred years ago Lyxal were even a major player in human culture, by far the most populous species that inhabited most of Earth. Some of their writing and art is still visible in many places, and they had plenty of technology at their disposal before they began to go extinct. Scientists are still trying to determine why Lyxal went extinct (perhaps climate change or over-hunting) but some think that it may be related to them being too successful or too dangerous for the humans to successfully keep them in check.
Lyxal have been known to construct cities that are far larger than anything the humans could build, structures that rival even the pyramids. Some of their cities are also self-sufficient and require no outside source of food or water. A few of these cities are still standing today but most of them were destroyed when the Lyxal attacked in their final days. Even though Lyxal cities are now a thing of the past, many relics from those ancient civilizations still remain, such as statues and buildings with Lyxal writing in them.
Lyxal were very aggressive towards other species, including humans. Many theories have been put forth as to why this is, including that they possessed superior technology or that they were simply hungry for conquest. Many scientists believe that the Lyxal did not have a reason to be hostile because they had no real competition for resources or space on Earth (aside from other intelligent species) at the time.
There is some debate over whether all Lyxal became extinct together or if some just became more peaceful and ceased raiding other planets altogether. If they continued raiding other planets, why did they stop? It is possible that they just ran out of places to raid because there was nothing left to raid. However it's also possible that once they started raiding these places, there was a point where they realized that they were going to lose and thus stopped raiding. The truth may never be known but it is likely one of the many mysteries still being debated by scientists today.
There are a few theories as to why they’re still around, and all of them are boggling. Some scientists think that they may have been too difficult for humans to kill, and that they simply went extinct because the humans just couldn’t get rid of them. Others, though, think that they may have been purposely safe-cracked by a group of Lyxal that made underground homes where humans couldn’t find them. Another theory suggests that the Lyxal were so advanced that their technology kept them hidden from the humans, only to be found out by accident very recently.
The matter of fact is, most Lyxal scholars are still working on these theories. For now, though, it seems that there are a significant number of Lyxal still alive in some of the more remote pockets of Earth. Scientists are investigating some of these pockets, hoping to learn more about the species and perhaps even prevent their inevitable extinction.
