Guiding Questions to Define The Relationship:

  • What are each of our learning goals for this project? What drives us in this project?
  • Corbin: Learing fundational JS concepts. Solidifying their application.
  • What is your collaboration style? How do you feel about pair programming vs. divide-and-conquer approaches?
  • Corbin:Can get the bulk of their work done at home.
  • Mike: I think we should work closely together, so no one gets left behind in learning.
  • How do you communicate best? How do you appreciate receiving communication from others?
  • Mike: Details and context are key for me. Not email for me! Text and phone call if I'm not responding quick enough. 10pm stop for me.
  • Corbin: Flexible. Open to all mediums
  • How would you describe your work style?
  • Mike & Corbin: We both work best at home where we can concentrate.
  • Mike: I love screensharing and working remotely.
  • What are each of our strengths? How can our strengths complement each other?
  • Corbin: Task oriented, actionnable, can execute and manage workload well.
  • Mike: Super detailed oriented.

* What’s gone well or poorly in your previous projects?

  • How will we set direction and make decisions as a team?
  • Organize workflow in Trello (top-to-bottom). Make these decisions together at the beginning of each of our sessions.
  • How will we overcome obstacles?
  • GRIT
  • What do you need (resources, environment, communication) to do your best work?
  • Corbin: Time and the relevant information.
  • Mike: The ability to go a little slower to make sure we're doing things right the first time around.
  • What scheduling restraints do you have? What are your scheduling preferences?
  • Mike: I stop working around 9pm on weekdays, can go until 10:30pm. I need some time around 6-7 for dinner with family.
  • Corbin: Flexible.
  • What is your style for giving feedback? Does anything ever hold you back from giving feedback?
  • Mike: First, I ask for permission to give feedback. Then I give specefic feedback and explain how what I am talking about how it affects everything else.
  • Corbin: Start with the problems i am currently facing and work towards a solution for the biggest issue I'm facing.
  • What do you identify as being your biggest strength(s) technically, as they relate to this project? Where do you feel you could use improvement in your technical skills, as they relate to this project? How can our team help support you in improving these skills?
  • Corbin: JS for sure!
  • Mike: Same JS and I'm going to need to learn how to use flexbox on this project.
  • What tools do you want to use to manage the project?
  • Trello, GH
  • How do you want the group to solve problems when members run into issues with features of the project?
  • Colloboration, let's break it down and piece it out (maybe in CodePen) for the hard functional problems.
  • How do you know if a project is successful? How can we achieve that as a group? Mike: It's sucessful if we all learned some new skills. We can acheive as a group, by explaining our solutions. Corbin: If we're both happy with the current iteration than it is sucessful.

  • How will we recognize each other's successes and celebrate them? Mike: Positive specific feedback, in person, on slack and in class or group settings when applicable. Corbin: Recognize the effort and accopmlishments of the other.
