Required - Laptop, New user's username and temporary password, Clonezilla boot device, wired network connection, steely resolve
- Install additional RAM. Laptops are purchased with 4GB, we normally upgrade them to 8GB.
- Apply image using Clonezilla
- Boot from Clonezilla boot media.
- Select "Boot to RAM option" unless other selection required by hardware (13" MacBook, Air)
- Select defaults (english, don't touch keymap, start clonezilla, device-image) until you reach the image source selector.
- Choose Samba server and DHCP
- Server address: "kif"
- Domain: "synapsedev"
- Account: Your username
- Directory: "/backup"
- Enter your password
- Beginner mode is fine, hotshot.
- Restore Disk
- Select the correct image size (750GB is the current standard)
- Select the destination drive, and press enter one more time.
- Confirm YES and YES.
- Wait until it is done. It won't be done until it asks you whether you want to reboot, start over, shut down, etc.
- Restart, computer boots to Mac OS
- Log in as SynapseIT
- Run domain join script ("angry bunny")
- Log out, then log in as the new user.
- Open Users & Groups, and enable the new user to administrate the computer.
- Reboot and hold Option to boot to Windows.
- Windows may need to install updates, etc. Stand by to hold Option as it will reboot again after applying updates.
- Log in using new user's credentials.
- Go to
c:\BootCamp\
and install the Boot Camp drivers for the laptop at hand.
- Complete the installation for Windows Security Essentials.
- (Temporary) Go to
s:\it_stuff\google migration\
and run the Google Migration tool to configure Outlook for Gmail. Since the script was designed for migrating active users, it will stall at the "Configure Google Sync Tool" step and display a "Google Sync sucessfully configured" alert, then you can exit the script manually.
- Run standard install scripts (ME, EE, SW) and/or other requested software as needed.
