DELIVERABLE: Create a numbered list that contains instructions for making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. FORMAT: Link to Public Gist AUDIENCE: Tourist Alien CONSIDERATIONS: The alien is positioned in front of a table with a plate, a knife, a jar of jelly, a jar of peanut butter, and a loaf of bread. The alien can read and recognize english …
1. An object is a material thing that can be seen and touched. Among the objects in front of you, there should be a flat and circular object. This is a plate.
2. There is also a loaf of bread. This is the the only soft object before you. Moreover, it appears as an oblong shape and is cut into portions. Each single portion of the loaf is known as a slice.
3. The bread is within a clear, light material; known as plastic. On one side of this loaf of bread, there will be a notable excess of plastic. This plastic has been twisted and tied, to hold the bread safely within it.
4. Untie and then untwist the plastic. After untwisting the plastic, you should notice that the loaf of bread is now acessible. It can be touched.
5. Reach inside, remove two slices, and place them on to the plate. They should not be stacked.
6. The next step is to locate the peanut butter jar and the jelly jar. Look for two wide-mouthed, cylindrical objects.
7. Since using color as an identifier may not work because of our physiological differences, I will not be able to easily help you distinguish between the peanut butter jar and the jelly jar. But that's okay. For your purposes, it really doesn't matter.
8. Pick up one of the two jars and grip the top with the hand that you are not using to hold the jar. You'll notice that if you apply pressure, as you twist to the left, that a portion of the jar will begin to loosen. Continue to twist until further twisting does cause this portion of the jar to become any looser. Then lift the hand that was just twisting, do not loosen your grip on the portion of the jar that was becoming looser. This portion of the jar will come off; it is known as a top. Place the top and the jar back down (the end of the jar which just had the top removed, should be facing upwards).
9. Repeat step 8 with the other jar.
10. Now there should only be one object on the table that has not already been interacted with. This is the knife. As you'll notice, one half of the knife has a sharp edge. This is the blade. Pick the knife up by its other half; the handle.
11. Dip the blade of the knife into one of the jars, and in a quasi-scooping motion remove the knife. The blade of the knife should now be covered in a foreign substance. Again using the face of the knife, rub this substance onto the upward facing side of one of the two slices of bread you earlier placed on to the plate. Once the knife has been nearly cleaned of this substance for the first time, repeat this step (11) until the jar's substance covers the entire upward facing side of one of the two slices of bread.
12. Repeat step 11, only remove substance from the jar that was not interacted with in step 11 and place it onto the slice that was not interacted with in the previous step.
13. Now, pick up one of the slices of bread and drop it onto the other slice so that both jar-substance covered sides are touching.
