Postbox feature request
Hi! It would be a great feature if when an open message tab is closed by an
action (Archive, Delete), and a new message is selected in the Inbox tab, the
message is left unread until opened.
1. Enable “Automatically mark messages as read” in Preferences → Advanced →
General.
2. Turn off the Message Pane by unchecking the View → Show → Message Pane menu
option.
3. Go to the Inbox tab, with two or more consecutive messages unread.
4. Double-click the first message to open it in a new tab. The message is
marked as read per the "Automatically mark messages as read" option.
5. Select the Message → Archive menu option to archive the message, or press
the Delete key to move it to trash.
At this point the action is taken: the open message is archived or deleted, the
message tab closes, the inbox tab is shown, and the next message is selected.
However, the now-selected next message is also marked as read, per the
“Automatically mark messages as read” option, even though the message is not
open and the Message Pane is not visible. It would be a cool addition to leave
the message unread in this case until the reader opens it!
This would be a great feature for Postbox 3.0.9 on the Mac, as that is where I
see the above behavior. It would also be cool on Windows if it doesn't have
that feature already.
I thought it might be a good feature for Thunderbird, but in the current
version their message tabs stay open when deleting messages, so I assume
current releases of Thunderbird use a different tab system that would not
benefit from this feature.
Thanks!
