Pitchfork’s Product team is hiring. We're looking for a sharp, creative front-end developer excited about pushing hard on UI and UX across all platforms. Your work will be seen daily by millions around the world, and you'll be a part of a small team of designers and developers whose work has been praised for redefining online music journalism and influencing the medium itself.
Our work environment is fast-paced and intimate: we all work very closely, and everyone has say in new ideas, features, and approach. You should be someone constantly learning about new technology and keenly aware of its practical applications and limitations. It should go without saying that you’re willing to take on any task, regardless of size or glory. Everyone here wears many hats, and no job is too small for anyone. Strong communication skills are a must, as is the desire to teach as much as you learn. A love for music doesn’t hurt, either.
As part of Pitchfork’s Product team, you will help us
- consistently improve pitchfork.com to make it faster, more usable and accessible
- develop rich, interactive storytelling experiences like in-content interactives and our award-winning Cover Story series:
- continue evolving our CMS to meet Editorial’s rapidly-changing
- make web advertising more interesting and less painful
- deliberate error page GIFs
- Exceptional demonstrated skill with JavaScript, HTML5, CSS.
- Experience with JavaScript profiling, performance tuning, and testing
- Experience with React (we use this), Angular, or similar frameworks
- Experience building rich, complex web applications
- Strong attention to detail
- Experience using Git and GitHub
- Comfortable at the command line
- Node.js (1/2 of our current stack)
- OpenCV, Kinect, openframeworks, VR framework experience
- iOS, Android, or React Native development
- Python & the Django framework (1/2 of our current stack)
- Third-party publishing platforms such as AMP & Facebook Instant Articles
- A keen eye for typography and layout
- Practical experience with modern datastores (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, MongoDB, ...)
- An active contributor to open source, or interested in becoming one
To apply, please send your resume, examples of work (Github/Bitbucket profile, portfolio site, etc) to Matt Dennewitz.
You'll be working out of Pitchfork's Chicago office in Logan Square, and will report to the VP of Product.
