BROKEN PineTab-V

  1. 2023-07-28 08:30 PineTab-V delivered to Canberra, ACT
  2. I did connect the PineTab-V with the UART adapter to my PineBookPro, opened a terminal on the PineBookPro 
    [mbohun@mbohunpinebookpro ~]$ minicom -b 115200 -D /dev/ttyUSB0
  3. Turned the PineTab-V ON, everything was running fine (as expected) for the next apx. 12-24 hours before I noticed the PineTab-V display "is off" and won't resume normal operation after a reboot, or a poweroff + START (Because the PineTab-V ships without a GUI interface at the moment (no xorg, no Wayland), I was obviously interacting with PineTab-V via the UART from my PineBookPro.
  4. I was not making any changes to the configuration, etc. In fact i did discover the content of the /root dir (with number of different tests/demos) only AFTER the display problem happened, so in fact i have never seen any of those test scripts in action while the PineTab-V display was still working OK

PineTab-V on my desk shortly after it was delivered, everything seems to be working fine:

It is a bit difficult to take a good photo of the broken PineTab-V display during the day, or with lights on, because the display looks black (like if the display was turned OFF), only when you take a really closer look you are going to notice that the display is not black, but there are these parallel stripes in different shades of dark grey colors; it is much easier to see in a completely dark room:

This is what happens when I try to run the pinetabv_test_script/hdmi_test.sh demo (for better emphasis, instead of those hard to see dark grey stripes, you get stripes in diff better visible colors):

2023-08-15 UPDATE:

This is the broken PineTab-V running the latest image by @Fishwaldo pinetabv-image-plasma-pinetabv-150823.img.bz2 connected to an external monitor:

Meanwhile pine64 suggested the problem with the tablet display is very likely caused by: "regarding your display issue: that's very likely a loose cable, TL confirmed an issue in the factory. Can be fixed by opening the device (please be very careful) and reseating it"
