What we do.

In a nutshell, Verdigris enables electrical intelligence by providing analytics down to the level of an individual appliance (light bulb, computer, microwave, TV, etc). Our data informs our customers about appliance costs so they can better optimize appliance usage. They win on savings and the Earth and all its inhabitants win on CO2 emissions.

How does Verdigris give detailed appliance information?

We send little gnomes out to watch all the electronics in buildings and report back to their overlords when these appliances have problems or waste electricity... at least that is what we let people think. We actually build little intelligent machines to do that for us… but we do make them gnome-shaped to keep the ruse alive.

In all seriousness, we’ve developed algorithms to separate device level information from a single conduit of electrical input. It lets us be more informative with less hardware.

So why would I want to work at Verdigris?

We have to work with less hardware and fewer sensors in the field, thus our hardware capability needs to pick up the slack. You will get the chance to work on high frequency sensors, advanced DSP and innovated compression schemes, all tied together with cloud services. Our hardware keeps tabs on the internet of “things”. At Verdigris, we can build as much as you can dream.

What does Verdigris’ product/technology stack look like?

Here’s a cross section. Technology Stack:

  • Hardware (ARM/BeagleBoard, Analog-to-Digital Converters, Current Transformers)
  • Firmware (Open Embedded, Device Tree, RS485, Node.js)
  • Database (MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Redis), Cloud Services (Heroku, AWS)
  • Software (Rails, Ember.js, Django, Celery)

Productivity Culture:

  • Daily Standups, Demodays, CI, TDD, Promiscuous Pairing (for Coding! where’s your mind?), Biweekly Sprints, Agile.

Tools we like:

  • Trello, OKRs, Github, Atom, RelateIQ, Business Model Canvas, Google Hangouts.

What’s the team like?

What comes to mind when you think of a Silicon Valley startup founded by Stanford alums based out of the fabled NASA Research Park in Mountain View, working on an AI to change the world? We’ve taken great pains to define what we really value and we’ve codified it: authentic feedback, uncomfortable transparency, annoying demands for proof, kaizen! And although we believe we’re smart, we know that smarter people are out there willing to help if only we’d ask for it.

If you want the same level of creativity and engagement of your colleagues as you demand of yourself, you’ve come to the right place! Check out a sample of what our Trello boards look like here: https://trello.com/b/y3J4Eylt

I'm IN!

Great! you can send us your github profile / resume at http://verdigris.co/jobs/Mountain%20View/Engineering/Firmware/embedded-eng
