DevOpsDays Portland SlideMark Instructions

SlideMark is a system to allow attendees to capture high-quality images of presentation slides, optionally with notes attached, to be emailed to the user at the conclusion of the conference. It is a third-party product that is being beta tested at DevOpsDays PDX; the idea is to eliminate the need for attendees to take photographs of slides on screen by providing easy access to higher-quality images without affecting the experience of other attendees.

To use SlideMark:

  • During the conference (this link will not work until the start of DevOpsDays PDX) visit https://slidemark.alfordmedia.com to enter your email address and click the Submit button.
  • On the device of your choice (SlideMark is optimized for smartphones but should work with any reasonably modern Web browser), read the confirmation email and click on the confirmation link in that email. If you did not receive the confirmation email, please check your junk mail folder. You can return to https://slidemark.alfordmedia.com at any time to reenter your email address and have the system resend a confirmation email.
  • Once you’ve confirmed your address, you’ll be taken to the active screen. This screen consists of two buttons.

This is the “bookmark slide” button: bookmark slide

It will bookmark the slide that is currently on the screen; you will be taken to a screen that confirms the bookmark was saved before returning to the active screen. There is no way to un-bookmark a slide that has been bookmarked, but if you bookmark the same slide more than once you will only receive one copy of that slide in your email.

This is the “bookmark with notes” button: bookmark slide with notes

It bookmarks the slide currently on the screen and then presents you with a page confirming the bookmark was saved and a text entry box that allows you to enter comments on that slide to be emailed to you along with the slide at the end of the conference. The text will be associated with the slide that was on the screen when you bookmarked it, even if the slide deck has advanced by the time you finish writing your notes. There is no way to un-bookmark a slide that has been bookmarked, but if you bookmark the same slide more than once and add notes to more than one bookmark you will receive a single copy of the slide but copies of all your notes. Once you submit your notes you will briefly receive a confirmation message before returning to the active screen.

At the end of the conference you will receive one or more emails with images of the slides you bookmarked and the associated notes. (If you bookmarked no slides, you will receive no emails.) Every attendee who bookmarked at least one slide will also receive a single followup email asking for feedback on the SlideMark app. Your email address will not be used for any other purposes and all SlideMark data from the conference will be deleted after the followup email is sent out.

Presenters will have the option to view aggregated data about their own presentations, limited to which slides were bookmarked and the number of attendees who bookmarked each slide. They will not have any access to your email address, your notes, or any other personally identifying information.

If you wish to receive notification and information about SlideMark when it is released you can email marketing@alfordmedia.com.

If you have technical questions, feedback, or mockery about SlideMark please email dave.pooser@alfordmedia.com.
