Mickey's Guide to Glasgow

Flat hunting

  • Where to buy appliances and furniture from? Argos, IKEA
  • How to find the right flat?

Cell phone providers

I recommend you simply take a look at this website. It's got pretty much everything I would have written in this guide.

  • West End
    • students, hipsters, fresh.
  • City Centre
    • Merchant City - it's banging. It's been yearly, fresh and hip.
  • North
    • residential
  • South side
    • residential. my favourite park - Pollock Park is located here where you can see highland cows
  • East End
    • wouldn't recommend it. It can be rough in surtain parts but it's being rebuilt ofter the 2014 Common Wealth Games.

Musings I would break things down into the following spectrum: suburban vs banging. If you're a student or a recent graduate you would usually prefer to live closer to the action West End (Hillhead, Partick, Finneston, Kelvinhaugh) or if you're willing to break the bank City Centre - Merchant City. None of these places are anywhere near NYC prices, however so you'll be fine. If you're planning to settle down in Glasgow what people do is move a bit outward into places like Newton Mearns, Bishopbriggs, Bear's den.

Again I recommend checking out the link above for the Scottish National Trust, you will find loads of places and events. You should also check out Visit Scotland I personally haven't explored much.

Do you need a car to get around Glasgow? Is it easy to just rent a car if I decide to see the rest of Scotland?

Do you have any suggestions for cell phone companies to switch to from my US number?
