15 things Product Managers might do at Zapier

In no particular order:

  1. Talk to users
  2. Do remote or in-person user testing for new UI
  3. Commit HTML or JS code directly to our main repo
  4. Ship good looking CSS directly to our main repo
  5. Set and communicate a project timeline with your team
  6. Write a project spec
  7. Own technical context about how Zapier works
  8. Decide core KPIs for projects at Zapier
  9. Learn a new skill to fill in a gap on your team
  10. Do support at Zapier
  11. Use Sketch/Photoshop/etc. to design user flows and wireframes
  12. Manage your team's tasks on a weekly basis
  13. Be responsible for hitting or missing a big company goal (maybe a metric or timeline)
  14. Dream up the future of Zapier, inspire and motivate your teammates
  15. Interview and decide from a list of Product Managers to hire
  16. [Write-in something that is not listed]

Kia Ora Mike!

My list of lovelies in order:

Top 5 Choices:

  1. Talk to Users - I LOVE to know what makes a good experience and what makes a suck one!
  2. Write a Project Spec - What good is it knowing what makes great experiences, if it's not communicated to the Makers?
  3. Manage My Teams Tasks on Weekly Basis - A good team is self-organizing and adaptive, but let's huddle up and make sure we're all tracking together, and achieving Zen on our project goals.
  4. Be Responsible for Hitting... or missing a Big Company Goal - Being Buck is ok with me, hitting 'dem goals makes me Goosebumpy!
  5. Dream up the future of Zapier, inspire and motivate your teammates - Being a visionary and having eagle-eyed focus is the deal and it all goes back to Choice 1, knowing what makes a great user experience and making it happen, picking up new trends - well that's just yum!

Less Liked Choices:

  1. Commit HTML or JS code directly to our main repo - having coded for years, I developed square eyes for a time....
  2. Ship good looking CSS directly to our main repo - Also goes back to coding, I do it but I don't love, love it, I tend to get obsessive
  3. Do support at Zapier - I actually would like this but not as much as the other's
  4. Own technical context about how Zapier works - I LOVE to write but I love visioning better
  5. Use Sketch/Photoshop/etc. to design user flows and wireframes - I love the user experience, so still love this aspect but love generating the ideas first.
