A user friendly, strong password generator PHP function.
<?PHP
// Generates a strong password of N length containing at least one lower case letter,
// one uppercase letter, one digit, and one special character. The remaining characters
// in the password are chosen at random from those four sets.
//
// The available characters in each set are user friendly - there are no ambiguous
// characters such as i, l, 1, o, 0, etc. This, coupled with the $add_dashes option,
// makes it much easier for users to manually type or speak their passwords.
//
// Note: the $add_dashes option will increase the length of the password by

Big list of http static server one-liners

Each of these commands will run an ad hoc http static server in your current (or specified) directory, available at http://localhost:8000. Use this power wisely.

Discussion on reddit.

Python 2.x

$ python -m SimpleHTTPServer 8000

My personal tmux cheat sheet for working with sessions, windows, and panes. `NB` I have remapped the command prefix to `ctrl` + `a`.

Sessions

New Session

  • tmux new [-s name] [cmd] (:new) - new session

Switch Session

  • tmux ls (:ls) - list sessions
  • tmux switch [-t name] (:switch) - switches to an existing session

Installing Postgres via Brew (OSX) (outdated see top most note)

Outdated note: the process is a lot easier now: after you brew install postgresql you can initialize or stop the daemon with these commands: brew services start postgresql or brew services stop postgresql.

new out put may look like

To have launchd start postgresql now and restart at login:
  brew services start postgresql
Or, if you don't want/need a background service you can just run:
  pg_ctl -D /usr/local/var/postgres start

A fancier mysql backup script for Xtrabackup:
#!/bin/bash
#
# Script to create full and incremental backups (for all databases on server) using innobackupex from Percona.
# http://www.percona.com/doc/percona-xtrabackup/innobackupex/innobackupex_script.html
#
# Every time it runs will generate an incremental backup except for the first time (full backup).
# FULLBACKUPLIFE variable will define your full backups schedule.

How to run Express inside an Electron app

How to run Express inside an Electron app

You can run your Express app very easily inside your Electron app.

All you need to do is to:

  • place all the files of your Express app inside a new app folder in your_electron_app\resources\app
  • reconfigure the app.js file
  • refactor some relative pathes in your Express app

Falsehoods programmers believe about addresses

Falsehoods programmers believe about addresses

This is an anchor-linked version of the excellent, amazing original opus magnum by Michael Tandy.

An address will start with, or at least include, a building number.

Counterexample: Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, WC2E 9DD, United Kingdom.

When there is a building number, it will be all-numeric.

Counterexample: 1A Egmont Road, Middlesbrough, TS4 2HT
