Senior Infrastructure Engineer @ Marketplacer

Would you like to work with a small and motivated team where your decisions matter? Would you like to take an existing server & deployment architecture and help us rebuild it from the ground up?

Marketplacer is building one of Australia's leading eCommerce platforms and we are looking for an exceptional Infrastructure Engineer to join our team.

Here's a few reasons why working for us is awesome:

  • Our large, well furnished office is in South Melbourne and is near the excellent cafes of Bay St and only a couple of minutes walk from the 109 tram.
  • You'll be provided with a top-of-the-line laptop or desktop (Apple or otherwise) and any software that you need to do your job.
  • We'll pay for you to go to conferences and camps (we've previously been to CampJS, DevOpsDays, RailsCamp and RubyConf)
  • You'll be in a small team, and you'll have direct input into the architectural & design decisions made
  • We're profitable, stable, and responsible for popular sites like www.bikeexchange.com.au and www.houseofhome.com.au.
  • We recently received significant investment, giving us great freedom in our platform and technology choices

We have a regionally distributed, dedicated server based infrastructure. It's reliable, and deployments are seamless, but we're reaching its limits and would like to re-invent it. Right now we're considering a combination of cloud-based hosting, containerisation, and origin-pull CDN.

A successful candidate will have experience with:

  • Operations on a customer-visible product
  • Modern containerisation & virtualisation platforms
  • Linux systems administration
  • Automated configuration management (eg Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Babushka)
  • At least one dynamic language (eg Perl, Python, Ruby) and one MVC web platform (eg Rails, Laravel, Django)

This position will include mentoring developers in infrastructure tasks and doing some web development yourself. You'll be responsible for the overall direction of the server architecture, and as such, how future applications should be structured around this architecture.

Experience with the following will also be useful:

  • ElasticSearch
  • Ruby on Rails
  • AWS and/or DigitalOcean
  • Docker
  • Javascript
  • Newrelic, Pagerduty, Datadog and/or ServerDensity
  • Agile or Scrum team environments

The position is full time, permanent and on site in South Melbourne. We are willing to assist with relocation to Melbourne from within Australia or New Zealand.

Applications should be emailed to mipearson@marketplacer.com. Sorry, no recruiters right now.
