Family

There are several meanings of family. In this article, i will share you with some phrases use "family" in different meanings.

1st meaning: a group of people that are related to each other, such as a father, a mother, and their children.

The following sentences will use "family" with the above meaning.

She comes from a big family, she has 3 brothers and 5 sisters.
Young family has only one or two children.
HTV has a of movies for family entertainment.

2nd meaning: children of a family

You can use this when you wanna mention about "having children", and there are 2 common structures used to work with this meaning.

  • start a family
  • raise a family

Some examples:

Women shouldn't have to choose between career and family.
Young couples want to start a family soon ( having children soon )
Raising a family is the responsibility of both parents

3rd meaning: a group of people who care about each other because they have a close relationship or shared interests.

Some examples:

My company has already welcome a new member to our family.
Since our time at school, we have come to regard as family.
We must work together to combat the issues affecting our Asian family.

4th meaning: a pair of adult animals and their babies

We have got a family of squirrels in our garden.
We have go a family of dogs in our garden.

5th meaning (biology): a large group of related types of animal or plant

A lion is a member of cat family
Plant crops from the same family close together.

Day 02 : Family Tree Vocabulary

Relative

A member of your family

  • Blood relative : the people who related to you by birth rather than by marriage
  • Distant/Close Relative: all her close/distant relatives came to her wedding

Birth

The time when a baby or a young animal comes out of its mother's body

Relative to

If something is relative to something else, it changes according to the speed or level of the other thing.

Relate

To find or show connections between two or more thing

  • We need to explain why these issues are important and relate them to everday life

Kin

  • Family or relations

He remained true to his kin
All my relatives gather every year for a family reunion
All my friends gather every year for a friends reunion
She has a very large extended family
She is a distant relation of his, though i don't remember how
I have a lot of distant relations, though I don't know most of them
I have aunts on my mother's side of the family
I have aunts and uncles on my father's side of the family

Relative:

  • Member of your family
  • Blood relative : people who related to you by birth rather than by marriage
  • Close/Distant relative: All of my close/distant relatives gather every year for a family reunion

Relative to

  • When something is relative to something else, it changes according to the speed or level of the other thing. The amount of petrol a car uses is relative to its speed

  • If something is relative to a particular subject, it is connected with it. Are these documents relative to the discussion?

Birth

  • The time when a baby or a young animal comes out its mother's body

Relate

  • To find or show the connections between two or more things.

We need to explain why these issues are important and relate them to everyday life
Archaeologists hope to relate the discovery with the arrival of Vikings in the area in the 10th century

Archaeologist

Someone who studies buidlings, graves, tools and other objects of people who lived in the past.

  • A group of people who care about each other because they have a close relationship or shared interests
  • Children in a family -> raise a family/ have a family
  • A pair of adult animals and their babies
  • A large group of related types of animal or plants

We plant crops from the same family close together

I come from a small family with my parents and my sister
I have a small family with my wife and my son
We have family entertainment everyweek at mall.
We have a dog family in our garden
When i was young, i don't think too much about having a family

Woman are freely to persuade both of career and family ( having children )

Relative

  • Find or show the connection between two or more things

  • A red liquid that is sent around the body by the heart

Kin

  • Family and relations

He remained true to his kin

Route

  • A particular way or directions between places

I live on a bus route so i can easily go to my workplace.
There are many routes to travel to the West

  • A method of achieving something

Method

  • A particular way of doing something

The best route is to stay humble and stay true to yourself.
