Paired Project Feedback

Name: Maria Ronauli

Partner: Danny Moran

Project Reflection

  • What is one thing that went unusually well during this project?
We both started off highly dedicated to the project. This was apparent when we first sat down to DTR and it remained apparent throughout the course of our project through our retros.
  • In hindsight, is there anything you would have done differently?
A few times during the project, Danny and I did a driver/navigator setup. When we were both uncertain how to approach a problem or had been stuck on a method for an hour or so, we continued to spin our wheels. During that point, I spent even more time Googling trying to implement the techniques I found on StackOverflow and other sites in our project. I would also reach out for help from our cohort and upper mod students. In the future, I will step away and come back with fresh eyes.
  • If you were working with this partner again, what is something that you would want to focus on improving as a team?
When I am learning new concepts, I tend to want to understand the material on a deeper level by asking questions and seeing what other ways can be implemented to acheive the same goal. Because of this, I asked Danny why he chose to employ the techniques he did. If I were to work with Danny again, I would be better about communicating that I have trust in him by asking these kinds of question in a way that conveys I trust him to do what he set out to do and am asking questions because I want to understand his viewpoint/thought process and where he is coming from.

Feedback for your partner

  • What strengths did your partner bring to the project?
Danny maintained a positive attitude throughout our project. When we were pairing, I was a bit frustrated and he recommended I wipeboard out my thoughts out. I appreciate that he recommended this because it helped my understanding in the long run. Also, I value that he is direct with his feedback and communicated what was on his mind when I was bouncing around too much during times of unproductive struggle.
  • What is something they could do better?
During our project, we hit a roadblock on one of the methods. After spending more than a few hours on this, I decided to move on to other features. I think Danny spent a significant amount of time working on that method. In the future, I would recommend he reach out for help after more than a couple of hours.
