Philips Hue Sync box issues

Setup before

LG OLED55C14LB (4k resolution)

  • HDMI1 PS5
  • HDMI2 (eARC enabled) AppleTV 4k latest gen ethernet

I also have 2x HomePods gen2 connected to AppleTV Both cables are HDMI 2.1 8k certified cable, and I can watch Dolby Vision content without any issues, hear sound with no issues and since eARC is enabled on the AppleTV I can hear the sound of PS5 through the HomePods when I play games.

Setup after adding Hue sync box + Hue smart light gradient for 55" tv

Device model: HSB1 Firmware: 1.8.3 My network signal quality is mostly Excellent

Bridge: BS002 | 1.56.1956046040 LCX001 | 1.101.2

I have other hue lights in the house, everything is up to date according to the Hue app.

Test1

LG OLED55C14LB (4k resolution)

  • HDMI1 -
  • HDMI2 (eARC enabled) Hue sync box

Hue sync box:

  • HDMI1 PS5
  • HDMI2 AppleTV

Settings on Hue app:

  • Background lightning: Video
  • ✅ Enabled ARC bypass
  • ❌ Disabled Dolby Vision enhanced compatibility

There was no way to have the lights sync working so I immediately stopped testing. It seems like without dolby vision enhanced compatibility the lights sync doesn't work at all. Tried to restart multiple times all the devices, TV, AppleTV, Hue sync box...

Lights sync working Video issues Audio issues ARC working

Test2

LG OLED55C14LB (4k resolution)

  • HDMI1 -
  • HDMI2 (eARC enabled) Hue sync box

Hue sync box:

  • HDMI1 PS5
  • HDMI2 AppleTV

Settings on Hue app: Background lightning: Video ✅ Enabled ARC bypass ✅ Enabled Dolby Vision enhanced compatibility

With this setup the lights sync works but I get crackling(popping) audio and white dots on the side of the screen. ARC doesn't work at all, it can't even be enabled. Although very limiting this seems to be a limitation according to the Hue app.

Lights sync working Video issues Audio issues ARC working
⚠️ white dots on the screen after a while ⚠️ crackling audio ❌ no way to make it work

Test3

LG OLED55C14LB (4k resolution)

  • HDMI1 PS5 (I disconnected it from the box
  • HDMI2 (eARC enabled) Hue sync box

Hue sync box:

  • HDMI1 -
  • HDMI2 AppleTV

Settings on Hue app: Background lightning: Video ✅ Enabled ARC bypass ✅ Enabled Dolby Vision enhanced compatibility

With this setup everything is the same as before, lights working but crackling audio and video artifacts, but ARC works, at the cost of losing the ability to use lights sync with the PS5.

Lights sync working Video issues Audio issues ARC working
🟡 partially as I removed PS5 from the hue box ⚠️ white dots on the screen after a while ⚠️ crackling audio ✅ ARC can be enabled

I tried different other cables I had in the house and I just ordered 2 new cables just in case: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sniokco-Certified-Braided-Support-Compatible/dp/B0919GTQS9/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?crid=10N5S0VKKYBQF&keywords=hdmi+certified+2.1+cable&qid=1678031882&sprefix=hdmi+certified+2.1+cable%2Caps%2C56&sr=8-2-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&psc=1&smid=A1LD2A1VGB89AK
