Just some talk ideas...

Stop your friends and family from becoming bots

by Rob Fuller

When we talk about big topics like "The Internet of Things" and protecting it is not just a company or government's job, it's everyones. I grew up with Recycle, Reduce, Reuse. I'll share some ways we can all help friends and family from becoming bots and pawns in this new cyber world.

Call to action: Free, quick, reusable tips that everyone should be able to use to help slow the tide of malware infections and bot use on the Internet.

Crowd sourcing security

by Rob Fuller

In the Marine Corps I was taught that security is everyone's job. Lets talk about how to change company security programs around and by creating a responsive incentivized competitive environment. Responding to reported incidents quickly and by a human, giving rewards for "top" reporters will help turn every employee into a watchguard for your company.

Call to action: Reward employees instead of chastising

Couch to career in 80 hours + 5 years.

by Rob Fuller

In 2009 I did a talk at a small conference in Maryland about my trip from being fired to being well on my way to having the job of my dreams in the span of a single pay period. What still works, what has changed, how can one do what they truly love to do and get paid for it?

Call to action: Get off the couch and work for what you want in life.

Health Checking the Internet Gaia and Digital Druidry

by Rob Fuller

The Internet is made up of 100s of millions of machines, smart phones, servers, and toasters. Scanning the entire Internet can be accomplish in on a few hours these days. What data has come out of those scans, how have they helped the Internet as a whole become less vulnerable to attack.

Call to action: (just statistics and info)

Rethinking Charity

by Rob Fuller

(Hackers for Charity) HFC is a group that connects hackers and the hacker mindset to support the organizations that step into the gap to feed, educate and provide for the world’s most vulnerable citizens. Where a random virus out break in a charity organization's database can mean the difference between life and death for a family counting on that charity.

Call to action: Donating money is great, but donating skills and time are what change the world.

Internet of Glass Things

by Rob Fuller

Privacy in the age of mass surveillance and "Big Data" is though. Where do you draw the line? Every technical protection laid on top of privacy allows people who do bad things to do them under that same protection. I

Call to action: It's easy to hate a government, especially the size of America's one. But instead of complaining, lets petition with ideas on how they can catch bad guys without performing mass surveillance

Cyber Olympic Games

by Rob Fuller

The National Cyber Defense Competition is the biggest games of the infosec world. It pits college students against the rigors of defending a simulated enterprise network against a motivated and unchained Red Team.

Call to action: Make people aware that NCCDC exists and that there are high school programs as well.

-ISM blindness of a white middle class male

by Rob Fuller

(yes I know this is very controversial)

-ISMs lead to -ISTs and ISTs lead to the dark side. Raceisim, Feminists, Sexism, Reverse Racists, you are not special because your ancestors were oppressors or oppressed, nor are you special because you were endowed with one sexual organ or another. What makes each of us special is the journey we take as humans through this really short story called life.

Call to action: Be you part of a group targeted by an ISM or have already turned into an IST, lets stop wasting our lives on complaining that X or Y had it better and take responsibility for our own journey.
