[08-08] 10:00:19 -!- orudie [~paul@ool-4b7f8ec4.static.optonline.net] has joined #linode
[08-08] 10:59:26 < orudie> when I send mail to postfix-dovecot I get the following error messages as reply from gmail Relay access denied (state 14).
[08-08] 10:59:41 < orudie> sometimes it goes through, but sometimes it doesn't.
[08-08] 11:24:23 < orudie> anyone here using linode nameservers having a problem with MX records ?
[08-08] 11:24:50 < AlexC_> orudie: what sort of problem?
[08-08] 11:25:53 < orudie> AlexC_, mail sometimes go trhough sometimes doesn't. When it doesn't I get "relay access denied" error in the bounch message from gmail, and nothing in the longs on the server side.
[08-08] 11:26:31 < AlexC_> orudie: so why would that be a DNS MX problem?
[08-08] 11:29:57 < hawk> orudie: Is this for gapps rather than plain gmail? Or why are there MX records?
[08-08] 11:31:59 < orudie> hawk, this is for anything. Other domains are the same problem.
[08-08] 11:32:31 < hawk> orudie: I just thought as you said there was a bounce message from gmail, which made me think the message was being delivered there(?)
[08-08] 11:37:58 < orudie> hawk, this is the bounce text http://pastebin.slackadelic.com/p/9jE7uY60.html
[08-08] 11:44:35 < hawk> orudie: ^^^^
[08-08] 11:48:51 < orudie> hawk, i'm setting up another host with postfix-dovecot to function with user@subdomain.example.com , so I added this entry to MX records in linode DNS manager "subdomain.example.com" and in A records "subdomain" pointing to a different IP than the first host with postfix-dovecot
[08-08] 11:51:55 < orudie> with this configuration sometimes mail going to user@example.com would hit the wrong host which is user@subdomain.example.com and reply as a bounce with relay access denied.
[08-08] 11:53:59 < orudie> and also there would be a "relay access denied" error in /var/log/mail.log on a wrong host which is user@subdomain.example.com
[08-08] 11:57:27 < orudie> I explained my situation to the guys on freenode in #postfix they are suggesting there is a problem with my VPS provider's NS Servers .
[08-08] 11:57:42 < orudie> not confident, but possibility
[08-08] 12:07:54 < orudie> hawk, how so? mail going to user@example.com would sometimes hit the right host, but sometimes hit the wrong host?
