A little speech for The Public Domain Jam

A SPEECH FOR THE PD JAM

  • (a couple of paragraphs, nothing too big unless you want to)
  • why you're donating the prize money
  • your thoughts on public domain / creative commons, and the jam.
  • It'd be a great little speech to have up on the page, and it'd give some pull quotes for the blogs to use.

A richer public domain means more creativity. If you're a glass-half-empty person, then you might point out the inverse is truer today. And you'd be right. Our shrinking public domain is limiting humanity's true potential.

Oh. You're a glass-half-empty person. Yes, our public domain is If you're a half-glass-empty kind of person, you see the flipside. A Personal Statement from Nicky Case

"If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants"

That's a quote from Isaac Newton, an intellectual giant himself, and I'm currently borrowing his shoulders by quoting him to make a point -- We are a remix of others. We're all given the cold shoulder.

I want to support our public domain, and the artists who borrow and give back to it! That's why I'm hosting a $1000 grand prize for the best game (as voted by //////) to come of the Public Domain Jam.

Legally and culturally, there's a lot society must do before we get back the public domain we once had. This jam won't start The Renaissance 2.0. But it's a step forward, taking a stand, standing upon the shoulders of giants.

Let's make some games.

// Make it a NOT NEGATIVE aspect, like the Jam site itself. // and to an extent, Creative Commons
