Using PGBouncer with CockroachDB

Using PGBouncer with CockroachDB

PGBouncer is a lightweight connection pooler for PostgreSQL. CockroachDB is a cloud-native SQL database for building global, scalable cloud services that survive disasters.

CockroachDB is PostgreSQL wire compatible database, which means it aims to have tight compatibility with the PG ecosystem. Today, we're going to wire PGBouncer to work with CockroachDB. This article is meant to scratch the surface of possibilities unblocked by PGBouncer with CockroachDB and not meant to be an in-depth overview. We're currently researching this topic and will follow up with official docs on proper architecture and sizing of PGBouncer and CockroachDB.

AES67 Open Source Software Wishlist

AES67 (an open standard for high quality audio over IP) is becoming mainstream in the world of broadcast and professional audio industries, however there is a very limited amount of open source software available to interoperate with it. As a result we are often just replacing XLRs with Ethernet, without taking advantage of the possibilites the software give. While Virtual Soundcards enable some of this, native network implementations would allow greater flexibility.

This is my wishlist of things that would help change that. Hopefully one day it can be turned into a AES67 Awesome List.

As open source has resulted in very rapid evolution of the web, I believe the same is possible for professional/broadcast audio.

It is possible that some of this already exists and I just havn't found it yet. Please add a comment below if you know of something!

Write backend HTTP response to http.ResponseWriter and File
// fileResponseWriter wraps an http.ResponseWriter and a File
// passing it to an http.Handler's ServeHTTP
// will write to both the file and the response.
type fileResponseWriter struct {
file io.Writer
resp http.ResponseWriter
multi io.Writer
}

This gist represents all the manifests you'll need to run a redundant and fault-tolerant NSQ cluster on Kubernetes. NSQ Admin's http interface is available on port 14171 on any node. There's an issue with NSQ Admin if you're running more than one lookupd service, so I recommend running just one lookupd until I figure it out.
