# It was modified here by Stanislaw Pankevich <s.pankevich@gmail.com>
# to run on CentOS 5.5 boxes.
# Script works perfectly on CentOS 5: script uses its native daemon().
# Puma is being stopped/restarted by sending signals, control app is not used.

Inspired by http://blog.hostpro.ua/cloud-hostpro-zapusk-neskolkih-ruby-mikro-prilozheniy-na-odnom-veb-servere/

Requires lsb tools
yum install redhat-lsb.x86_64

Example config under /etc/puma.conf:
/srv/www/showcase/,root,/srv/www/showcase/config/puma.rb,/srv/www/showcase/log/puma.log

Files:

  • run-puma => /usr/local/bin/run-puma
  • puma => /etc/init.d/puma
  • puma.rb => [rack-application]/config/puma.rb

@niwo
Do you install redhat-lsb only to have the daemon command ? Why don't you use "puma -d" to daemonize ?

@hansenpansen
Copy link

daemon from /lib/lsb/init-functions is provided by redhat-lsb-core, a much lighter dependency. You can check that with

yum provides /lib/lsb/init-functions

So it is sufficient to just install

yum install redhat-lsb-core

@niwo: Thank you for the example.

Why not use /etc/systemd/system instead of /etc/init.d?

Just for FYI, I had to modify PIDFILE path specs. They seem to be inconsistent.

L59: PIDFILE=$1/tmp/puma/puma.pid
L86: PIDFILE=$1/puma/puma.pid
L161: PIDFILE=$1/tmp/puma/puma.pid
L200: PIDFILE=$1/tmp/puma/pid

how do you launch the service ?

@furqanwasi
Copy link

is it something like sudo /etc/init.d/puma start
