Strengths & Storytelling Reflection - Natalia Colomé

Strengths & Storytelling Reflection Guidelines

Build on your professional story by thinking about how you're progressing at Turing. Answer the questions below in your own gist to use your StrengthsFinder themes to add to your story:

  • Look at your initial StrengthsFinder reflection that you completed in week 1 -- how have your perceptions of the top 5 themes changed?

In general my perception hasn't changed. The phrases that stuck out to me keep sticking out, and I do see a lot of myself in those descriptions. Now that I'm aware I have those strengths, I'm leveraging them better and I feel more confident because I know I have them.

  • How are you different today than when you first started at Turing? Where are you stronger now than on day 1?

After the feedback session and specially after Introverts vs Extroverts, I've been making an effort to take into account where my classmates are in that spectrum (specially for paired projects), then I use DTR to talk about being sincere when we need to recharge or when we don't like something about our interaction.

This has set a good starting point to be open about our needs in order to work better; which has helped me have successful paired work.

I used to think that I prefered to work alone but now I realize that I enjoy working in projects with other people because the tools we have now help us be more adaptable and balanced within a group environment, which in turn, helps us take advantage of all the learning opportunities a paired project can give us while building a relationship with another person.

  • Considering how you describe these themes, how do you want others to see you as you continue to progress through Turing?

My strengths were Learner (I enjoy learning new things), Restorative (I love to work on myself and solve problems), Harmony (I like to put things into perspective and take a common-sense approach in certain situations), Achiever (I love to work hard and stress helps me focus) and Positivity (I easily acknowledge my and other people's progress and accomplishments).

With that in mind, I want others to see me as a capable developer, a collaborative person, and someone who is always willing to help.

  • How might these themes play a role in describing your Turing story?

They will be the pillars of my story, and will explain why I chose Software Development, why I excel at it and why I'll be a perfect fit for a company.

  • Even though your Turing story isn't finished yet, what do you envision for your development in future mods? How will this story end?

I want to continue to grow both my soft and hard skills through professional and personal projects. After 7 months, I'll be a confident and excellent developer capable of working well with others.
