PC-98 Patch Release Arguments
Conversation with #touhou_ooc at 4/13/2013 7:38:45 AM on Nmlgc@reimu.gensoukyoueasternstory.net (irc)
(11:37:05 PM) Nmlgc: Hmm... I guess 17 people is a big enough majority, so...
(11:37:27 PM) Nmlgc: Unprecedented Serious Affair: http://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php/topic,13903.msg965250.html?PHPSESSID=4s1prjlqjkaujbl3a73r05rbm7#msg965250
(11:39:48 PM) Nmlgc: Long story short, it is now up to me to decide when these patches will be released.
(11:40:16 PM) Nmlgc: You could have them next week, or wait until the end of the year.
(11:41:10 PM) Flandre_Scarlet: PoDD..! Yay~
(11:41:30 PM) Zuren [Zuren@EasternStory-viu.v10.c5b2ll.IP] entered the room.
(11:41:32 PM) YamameKurodani: Next year sounds good.
(11:41:58 PM) Nmlgc: If we released them next week, looking like on the screenshots, this would flush one month of my work down the drain.
(11:42:05 PM) Flandre_Scarlet: I'm too impatient to have a valid opinion.
(11:43:23 PM) Nazeo: I say option 2.
(11:43:44 PM) Nazeo: Reason why?
(11:44:28 PM) Nmlgc: If I continued to do stuff my way, stalling visible progress, you would however end up with proportional fonts and support for multiple languages and everything about the entire patch being open-source.
(11:44:36 PM) KernelPone left the room (quit: Operation timed out).
(11:44:40 PM) Nazeo: Because we are releasing Multi-lingual patches. That was always the focus. And that's what will bring thpatch recognition.
(11:45:09 PM) Nmlgc: But it's an egotistical focus.
(11:45:30 PM) Nazeo: It's what must be done!
(11:46:18 PM) Nmlgc: For some reason, "release them now and go multilingual later" doesn't seem like a satisfying option.
(11:51:02 PM) Raitaki [4cae7c4e@EasternStory-ug6.cgi.unr81h.IP] entered the room.
(11:51:06 PM) Raitaki: \o
(11:51:51 PM) Remilia_Scarlet: "steppin' out clothes"
(11:51:53 PM) Remilia_Scarlet: "same"
(11:51:54 PM) Remilia_Scarlet: What
(11:52:22 PM) Nazeo: Which is why we need to wait.
(11:54:28 PM) Flandre_Scarlet: Steppin'
(11:54:38 PM) Nmlgc: The thing is, I have an answer to all the other questions xJeePx is asking now. If I just gave the answers now, there's only the relocation stuff to be done, and that seems not really a big problem, so there's nothing stopping him to release the patches as they are.
(11:54:54 PM) Nmlgc: ... unless I would withhold this information.
(11:55:04 PM) Nazeo: Pros/Cons.
(11:55:16 PM) Nmlgc: Which is not that hacker-like.
(11:56:59 PM) Nmlgc: That are basically all of the pros and cons. Sure, we can construct even more out of that.
(11:57:35 PM) Nmlgc: Like, America lashing out at me for delaying their patches.
(11:59:00 PM) Nazeo: ?
(11:59:08 PM) Nazeo: You have not set any deadlines though.
(11:59:33 PM) Nazeo: There is no reason to lash against.
(11:59:41 PM) Nmlgc: *delaying their patches for reasons that are not valid for Americans
(11:59:58 PM) Nazeo: >:U
(12:00:57 AM) Nazeo: There's much more to the fandom than just Americans. We have the entire world who would glady like the patches. It would be nice if thpatch was responsible for the Touhou games being spread about the entire world.
(12:01:20 AM) Remilia_Scarlet: G:ES is an example.
(12:01:29 AM) Masaaki_Kagura: You know, if we had a recording studio. I bet some of us here who are girls could apply some good voice acting.
(12:01:31 AM) Remilia_Scarlet: Loads of people here aren't American.
(12:01:45 AM) Remilia_Scarlet: Voice acting for Touhou...?
(12:02:07 AM) Masaaki_Kagura: Why not?
(12:02:49 AM) ***Flandre_Scarlet cough
(12:02:52 AM) HashihimeParsee left the room (quit: Quit: I got the attention span of a squirre- oh look, a bird!).
(12:04:05 AM) Masaaki_Kagura: You okay, Flandre?
(12:04:23 AM) Flandre_Scarlet: Yes~
(12:05:18 AM) Masaaki_Kagura: Okay.
(12:15:27 AM) Nmlgc: I might also add that, in case we'll be releasing this next week, the multilingual patches will become our very lowest priority.
(12:15:35 AM) Nazeo: .........
(12:15:36 AM) Nazeo: No
(12:15:39 AM) Nazeo: Abort
(12:15:41 AM) Nazeo: Just no.
(12:15:47 AM) Zuren: No to voice acting?
(12:15:48 AM) Nmlgc: We'll probably have Seihou patched before them.
(12:15:50 AM) YamameKurodani: Nopey.
(12:15:53 AM) YamameKurodani: Just wait~
(12:16:37 AM) Nmlgc: Alright, then. But xJeePx should know the reasons behind this decision.
(12:17:02 AM) Nazeo: I thought we made it clear.
(12:17:39 AM) Nmlgc: Eh. He wouldn't have written "Expect the release of the patches soon" if it was clear that the patches would take months to be finished.
(12:17:54 AM) Nazeo: True... blah.
(12:18:04 AM) Nazeo: This was prematurely done.
(12:18:44 AM) Nmlgc: Can you blame him? He was going about doing this with a different mindset from the beginning. A sane mindset.
(12:19:07 AM) Nazeo: ...
(12:19:17 AM) ***Nazeo shrugs.
(12:19:24 AM) Nazeo: Then we keep on with the mission
(12:19:34 AM) Nmlgc: Nothing that would require one to spend months learning DOS internals.
(12:20:14 AM) Nazeo: Nmlgc, I'm not going to sit by and watch a month of your work being railroaded by something like this. It's not fair to you.
(12:20:33 AM) YamameKurodani left the room (quit: Quit: Nyan~).
(12:20:40 AM) Nmlgc: We keep on with the mission if xJeePx is OK with that.
(12:22:49 AM) Nmlgc: Maybe you won't, but our target audience will not care how much work was put into this.
(12:22:52 AM) Nmlgc: I wouldn't, either.
(12:23:13 AM) Nmlgc: Gah, I'll leave now. You'll figure this out.
