  1. When you've worked towards a goal in the past, what systems or tools have been helpful for you in accomplishing that goal? How could you adapt those same systems/tools to use while at Turing?
  • The best system that has always worked for me in an accountability buddy. There are times where I will get over confident or too busy and miss assignments. Having someone to help keep me on track has always been the best solution. I have always adapted to more of a self-accountability system with detailed planners and alarms.
  1. As you start this new career, what is one of your strengths and how do you know?
  • One of my strenghts is my ability to work hard on something, no matter how difficult or time consuming it has been. I have mostly worked solo learning programming and have recently found good success with it. Looking to take it to the next level.
  1. Describe how you work best (conditions, environment, preferences, etc.):
  • A quite environment with a set of headphones in to listen to music that helps me focus.
  • Ways to de-stress when overloaded is exercising and going out taking walks.
  • I find myself much more productive when I know others are counting on me to deliver.
  • A productive work environment where others around me are being productive or seeking knowledge is a large motivator for me.
  1. As you start this new career, what is your greatest area of improvement when it comes to your professional skills?
  • Planning and starting early. I have a bad tendency to start late due to overconfidence and jump in right away rather than taking the time to plan and build the vision. In the world of programming, I have found that wandering around aimlessly is one of the biggest time wasters. While taking the time to plan and design before getting into the programming may seem wasteful, you are far more productive going in with plans and visions than winging it.
  1. How will developing a deeper understanding of your strengths and working preferences benefit you as a software developer?
  • Bouncing my ideas and habits off others. I have learned that there is no such thing as being as productive solo as you can be in a team. Keeping an open mind and working hard with others that are like-minded sets you up in an environment for success. It is really easy to become haughty in programming as well. Always being a student of knowledge and keeping your visors open to absorb new knowledge and information is the main focus for me.
  1. Describe the vision you currently have for your career after Turing:
  • My vision is to get a position with a company to get in-depth knowledge and practice working with a team. When I feel that my experience is satisfactory, I want to open my own software company and pursue higher results. My main focus will be leading by example with my team as well as learning by example with any type of knowledge others can bring with them. I want to establish a large networking pool where I can help others find positions and knowledge with programming as it is something that I struggled with and want to help others avoid the pitfalls I encountered.
