True Detective via GPT-4
(Setting: A ColdStone Creamery. Rust and Martin sit at a table, each with an ice cream cone in hand.)
Martin: (licking his ice cream cone) You know, Rust, sometimes it's nice to just enjoy the little things in life. Like a good ice cream cone.
Rust: (staring blankly) Temporary pleasures. That's all they are.
Martin: (sighs) Come on, man. Can't you just enjoy something without bringing the weight of the world down on it?
Rust: (takes a small bite of his ice cream, then continues) Kierkegaard believed that personal commitment was the key to finding meaning in life, but he was wrong. Commitment is just an illusion we use to distract ourselves from the fact that life is inherently meaningless.
Martin: (confused) But if life is meaningless, then why bother doing anything?
Rust: (leaning forward) Because we're programmed to keep going. As Nietzsche said, "We have art in order not to die of the truth."
Martin: (raising an eyebrow) What does that even mean?
Rust: (pausing for a moment) It means that we create art, music, literature, and even ice cream to distract ourselves from the harsh reality that life is suffering. We're all just walking corpses, waiting for our time to end.
Martin: (shaking his head) That's a pretty bleak outlook, Rust.
Rust: (smirks) I don't really live, Marty. I just exist.
Martin: (shaking his head) Well, I'm going to enjoy this ice cream while I still can.
Rust: (nodding) You do that, Marty. But just remember, it's only a fleeting pleasure. It won't bring you any lasting happiness.
Martin: (pausing for a moment, then pulling out a flask and taking a long sip of bourbon) Maybe not, but it's better than nothing.
Rust: (smiling) That's the spirit, Marty.
(They finish their ice cream cones, toss the empty cups in the trash, and exit the ColdStone Creamery, each lost in their own thoughts about the meaninglessness of existence and the futility of human endeavor.)
