There are already a few 1,000 groups buying direct from ethical grocery wholesalers. These groups can find a huge range of fantastic sustainable products at much lower prices. But at the moment it’s hard work. We’re going to build a product that makes it easier for existing groups and brings the concept to the mainstream. We are looking for a lead frontend web developer to build the first version of Food Clubs’ system. We are funded by a leading social impact VC, on the back of intensive market/user research from a domain expert. Expect clear direction on feature requirements. We plan to use Phoenix (Elixir) for backend and a component based framework (Vue/React) for frontend, but it is still open for discussion. You will be involved in the choice of technology stack.
Skills / outlook we value:
- Communicating really well with a cross functional team
- Happy in all phases of software development (planning, architecture design, coding, support)
- Communicating with wider team / stakeholders
- High standard on productivity and efficiency
- Write clean code that wouldn't obstruct scaling up our development team
- Think over engineering (eg premature optimisation/abstraction) is evil
- Experience of working on eCommerce and/or payment systems is a plus
- Passion for open-source, publication and/or public speaking a plus
- A positive entrepreneurial outlook and an interest in the mission of the business
It’s early days, but culturally, the business wants to achieve a work life balance - in the belief this is when the best work comes - with an unwavering focus on what’s important. You wouldn’t be expected to come in every day (to our lovely office in Brixton), but in the early days you will need to be around users, the Product designer and the founder a lot.
