Choices for a Clever digital piano

Digital piano suggestions

As aggregated from the Slack #piano channel.

Thoughts

  • Good hammer action is important.
  • Having at least a sustain pedal is important.
  • Headphone output necessary
  • Builtin speakers preferred
  • This list assumes a budget of $500-$1,000. If this is not the case, let us know and we'll revise.

Common accessories

Some of the pianos suggested already have builtin stands; if so, skip the stand recommendation.

Also, some of the pianos have custom triple-pedal accessories; if we want a real piano-style triple pedal, consider that, but the sustain pedal recommended below should work with anything.

Lots of voices, features

Flexibility, lots of voices and features like pitch-bending and recording builtin. Some people use these features extensively, most people never use these features though.

Just a piano

Simplicity, few bells and whistles.

  • Kawai ES100 ($799)
    • With F-350 Pedal unit ($115)
    • With HML-1 Stand ($115)
    • Or just use Z-stand/sustain pedal in "Accessories"
    • Best sound/action in price range
  • Casio PX 760($799)
    • Two headphone jacks
    • Built in stand and triple pedal
    • Excellent action than all here except ES100
  • Yamaha P115 ($599)
    • Cheaper, still good
