Our PyLadies Remote co-organizer, Cea, had to step back from her responsibilities so I'm looking for someone,
who'd like to help me lead PyLadies Remote (http://remote.pyladies.com) from now on.
As the name "remote" indicates, PyLadies Remote offers online classes for PyLadies living anywhere in the world, so you can
also live anywhere in the world and help me :)
PyLadies Remote organizes one class a month. We alternate months: I organize a class for July,
you organize a class for August, and so on. It's no big deal if we have to switch months or skip a month here or there due
to time constraints but in general this is the schedule we will stick to.
If you decide to join me as a co-organizer, these are some tasks you will take on:
- Respond to emails. So far we only get a couple of PyLadies Remote emails a month.
- Monitor the @PyLadiesRemote Twitter account and respond to questions and comments, as well as retweet relevant tweets.
- Find teachers who'd love to teach a class for PyLadies Remote, discuss topics with them, and schedule classes. (I have a list
of people who are interested in teaching a class for PyLadies Remote so you could just email
people from the list in the beginning and wouldn't have to find teachers otherwise, although that would be awesome of course.)
- Create an event for a PyLadies Remote class on Eventbrite and schedule a reminder email to all attendees. (I have a
draft email so all you would have to do is fill in the blanks really ;))
- Set up a YouTube live event and give the teacher access to our Google account.
- Update the PyLadies Remote website with upcoming events, add new resources to the website, general website maintenance, etc.
- Schedule tweets on Tweetdeck to let people know about our upcoming events. (I have some tweet drafts so all you have to do is
fill in the blanks and schedule them ;))
- Give the teacher access to the PyLadies Remote Twitter account via Tweetdeck so they can tweet out any updates regarding
their class (if they need to cancel the class for example).
- Send thank you emails to teachers.
- Communicate with me via email and do a 30 minute video call every two months to discuss any updates and keep each other
in the loop.
- Brainstorm ideas and help me make PyLadies Remote better.
This may sound like a lot but it really doesn't take more than 2-3 hours a month (only for the month you're the
"main" organizer), I promise. Also don't worry about having to be "present" for all classes. If you're able to "attend"
a class while it's being screencasted, that's awesome, but you don't have to. Your main task is the organization of the classes
(and a few little other tasks I mentioned above). I will of course help you and teach you everything you need to know so if
there is something on the list you have never done before or you don't know how to do, no worries, I'll show you how it works :)
Oh and by the way, you don't have to be a Python expert at all in order to help me!
What would be important to me is that you can fully commit to organizing a class every second month from now on (and maybe
step in for me here or there if I happen to be sick/busy/etc.), and taking on the tasks I mentioned above. If you happen to
have previous event or meetup organization experience, that is a plus, but it's not a must.
I am looking for a long-term co-organizer so please consider if this is something you are interested in and can commit to
long-term.
If you're interested in helping me and joining me as a co-organizer, or if you have any questions, it would be awesome if you
would send an email to remote@pyladies.com. I'd love to chat with you! :)
PS: If you're not interested yourself but know someone who would be, it would be awesome if you would share this with them :)
