I'm looking for someone, who'd like to help me lead PyLadies Remote (http://remote.pyladies.com) and who'd love to join
me as a PyLadies Remote co-organizer.
As the name "remote" indicates, PyLadies Remote offers online classes for PyLadies living anywhere in the world, so you can
also live anywhere in the world and still help me :)
The workload isn't more than 2-3 hours a month so I'm not looking for a co-organizer because I can't handle the workload
anymore, I just believe that it's nicer to do things together and would love for someone other than me to know how
PyLadies Remote works in case I ever want/need to step down from my position or just don't have the time to organize a class
one month, am sick, traveling, need to take a break, etc. You get what I'm trying to say ;)
PyLadies Remote organizes one class a month. Ideally I would like for us to alternate months: I organize a class for January,
you organize a class for February, and so on. There is of course always the option to switch months if you happen to be too
busy one month etc., that's what's nice about having two organizers :)
If you decide to join me as a co-organizer, these are some tasks you would take on:
- Respond to emails. So far I only get a couple of PyLadies Remote emails a month so if answering emails is not your thing
or you're simply tired of answering even more emails, I'd be happy to make that my task :)
- Find teachers who'd love to teach a class for PyLadies Remote, discuss topics with them, and schedule classes. (I have a list
of people who are interested in teaching a class for PyLadies Remote so for the first couple of months you could just email
people from the list and wouldn't have to find teachers otherwise, although that would be awesome of course.)
- Find teaching assistants if the teacher requests them.
- Create an event for a PyLadies Remote class on Eventbrite and schedule a reminder email to all attendees. (I have a
draft email so all you would have to do is fill in the blanks really ;))
- Update the PyLadies Remote website with upcoming events, add new resources to the website, etc.
- Schedule tweets on Tweetdeck to let people know about our upcoming event. (I have some tweet drafts so all you have to do is
fill in the blanks and schedule them ;))
- Give the teacher access to the PyLadies Remote Twitter account via Tweetdeck so they can tweet out any updates regarding
their class (if they need to cancel the class for example).
- Brainstorm ideas and help me make PyLadies Remote better.
This may sound like a lot but it really doesn't take more than 2-3 hours a month (only for the month you're the
"main" organizer), I promise. Also don't worry about having to be "present" for all classes. If you're able to "attend"
a class while it's being screencasted, that's awesome, but you
don't have to. Your main task is the organization of the classes (and a few little other tasks I mentioned above). I will of
course help you and teach you everything you need to know so if there is something on the list you have never done before or
you don't know how to do, no worries, I'll show you how it works :) Oh and by the way, you don't have to be a Python expert at
all in order to help me!
What would be important to me is that you can fully commit to organizing a class every 2nd month (like I said if you can't
do it one month, that is no problem at all, we will find a solution) and taking on the tasks I mentioned above. I would love
to find a long-term co-organizer, who is willing to do this for a while :)
If you're interested in helping me and joining me as my co-organizer, or if you have any questions, it would be awesome if you
would send an email to remote@pyladies.com. I'd love to chat with you! :)
PS: If you're not interested yourself but know someone who would be, it would be awesome if you would share this with them :)
