This code requires handling the click in your preference fragment.

	public boolean onPreferenceTreeClick(PreferenceScreen screen, final Preference preference) {
		String key = preference.getKey();

		if (preference instanceof ColorPreferenceCompat) {
			ColorPickerDialog dialog = ((ColorPreferenceCompat) preference).getDialog();
			dialog.setColorPickerDialogListener(new ColorPickerDialogListener() {
				@Override
				public void onColorSelected(int dialogId, int color) {
					((ColorPreferenceCompat) preference).saveValue(color);
				}

				@Override
				public void onDialogDismissed(int dialogId) {}
			});
			dialog.show(getFragmentManager(), "color-picker-dialog");;
		}
        }
