Delete everything that has to do with with the previous versions of R<3.2.2 (in case you need to do it manually type $which R, to
see where R is installed and delete as super user).
*After cleaning everything up including R-studio issue the commands
    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:marutter/rdev
    sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade
    sudo apt-get install r-base
    sudo apt-get install r-base-core
    sudo apt-get install r-recommended
    sudo apt-get install r
    sudo apt-get install r-base
