PHP => FCM Push notification tutorial for Android and iOS
Below is a full tutorial on how to setup and use Googles Firebase push notification API for both Android and iOS. It is based on this
earlier implementation of Googles GCM method: https://gist.github.com/prime31/5675017 - FCM is the new method and GCM will eventually be
retired.
## THE BELOW METHOD IS THE NEWER FCM METHOD:
Register your app in the FCM Console: https://console.firebase.google.com (add project)
1. Click on the newly added project, in the upper left menu is the "Overview" and Gear Settings.
2. Click on the GEAR settings icon, and then on "Project Settings"
3. In the main screen, click on "Cloud Messaging"

A simple example of setting-up dynamic "rooms" for socket.io clients to join
// set-up a connection between the client and the server
var socket = io.connect();
// let's assume that the client page, once rendered, knows what room it wants to join
var room = "abc123";
socket.on('connect', function() {
// Connected, let's sign-up for to receive messages for this room
socket.emit('room', room);
});

How I Got Node.js Talking on EC2's Port 80

The Problem

Standard practices say no non-root process gets to talk to the Internet on a port less than 1024. How, then, could I get Node talking on port 80 on EC2? (I wanted it to go as fast as possible and use the smallest possible share of my teeny tiny little micro-instance's resources, so proxying through nginx or Apache seemed suboptimal.)

The temptingly easy but ultimately wrong solution:

Alter the port the script talks to from 8000 to 80:

}).listen(80);

A small script to make recording http live streams (HLS, those streams that work on iOS devices) nicer on a Mac. Script records the stream for a defined period of time and sends the user notifications if anything goes wrong and once it's done.
# required: ffmpeg (e.g. from homebrew), terminal-notifier from https://github.com/alloy/terminal-notifier
# you can schedule this with launchd to run e.g. weekly
# Specify in seconds how long the script should record (default here is 1 hour).
seconds=3600
# Date format for the recording file name
DATE=`date "+%d-%m-%y_%H-%M"`
# start ffmpeg recording

For RN >= 0.57 please look at https://github.com/blankg/rn-webview-bridge-sample-new/blob/master/resources/index.html. Provides a sample implementation for sending and receiving messages to and from the React-Native WebView (using postMessage/onMessage WebView API).
/**
* Created by Guy Blank on 3/9/17.
*
* This is a sample provides an API to send & receive messages to and from the React-Native WebView (using postMessage/onMessage WebView API).
* A sample project that uses the bridge is available here https://github.com/blankg/rn-webview-bridge-sample
*
* webViewBridge.send('functionToInvoke', {mydata: 'test'}, function(){console.log('success')},function(){console.log('error')});
*
* The API is designed to be similar to the Cordova exec API so migration to it should be almost seamless.
* The API also provides solution to a React-Native WebView bug in iOS which causes sending consecutive postMessage calls to override each other.
