The African Students Association(ASA) of Western University is a cultural club dedicated to celebrating and teaching about the beautiful and diverse countries of Africa within both the university and London community. A club for Africans and Non-Africans alike, ASA is open to anyone interested in African culture and one of the club's primary objectives is to be a source of information and erudition to the UWO community concerning Africa: the land, the people that inhabit her, and the current events that occur there. Another one of the club's primary objectives is to serve as a common meeting point, and network of support for African students attending UWO. In addition to the club's focus on culture, ASA also strives to give back to the community, both locally and internationally. Each year the club sponsors a charity focused on providing aid within an African country. A percentage of annual proceeds from club events and fundraising activities go directly to this charity. Through our annual culture show, as well as various cultural displays and presentations throughout the London Community, ASA works hard to promote the beautiful cultures of Africa, as well as mobilize ASA members to give back and aid the African community within London and throughout the world with a motto of,"Diversified Yet Unified". asawesternontario@gmail.com https://www.facebook.com/pages/African-Students-Association-UWO/1533888190178385 http://www.twitter.com/ASAwestern!/clupdates westernu.collegiatelink.net/images/W170xL170/0/noshadow/Profile/c4484ed9d4544989a9973ff6c1e8ef59.jpg 169 Cultural

This club will encourage the progress and betterment of both our members and our community, and the global community at large. 1746 Association of Role Players WARP A gathering of enthusiasts of all manners of role-playing games for cultural benefit. The Western Association of Role Players is a diverse and vibrant community of role-players, with a goal of ecouraging the involvement in and enjoyment of the tabletop role-playing and board gaming hobby. We seek to match Game Runners (known as Game Masters, or GMs) with players interested in their narratives. We like to share the adventures of each group with the club as a whole, through the weekly News at WARP Speed, although this is not always possible. We also organise and host monthly conventions directed towards those members with commitments too heavy to participate in weekly games, or that would like to try something new. These conventions are entirely free and open to members, and take place on the Saturday of the last week of each month. The conventions involve a single session of gaming, occasionally followed by the communal watching of a movie in keeping with the theme of the convention. We also host a major convention in January, known as StrDexCON (Pronounced Stength Dex Con), which supercedes the free monthly convention. StrDexCON is a three-day event, involving multiple gaming sessions and a random prize draw. The University of Western Ontario Cancer Awareness Society is a non-profit student organization established in September of 2006. Our mission is to raise cancer awareness with the Western student population, through cancer prevention, education, and promotion of healthy lifestyles. The University of Western Ontario Cancer Awareness Society started 8 years ago and we have gotten a lot of help from the university community and other supporters across the city. We offer various volunteer opportunities for Western students, which are mainly directed towards fundraising and awareness events – many of which take place on the university campus. Although this club is relatively young, we have had tremendous success in promoting awareness fundraising for cancer related charities, as well as local hospitals and cancer research programs. However, none of this could have been accomplished without your generous help and involvement within our club. We welcome anyone who’s interested in becoming a member and feel free to contact us. We will be very happy to answer any of your questions and concerns. 160 Health and Wellness

1757 Model United Nations Society We debate, discuss and learn more about various issues around the world in the spirit of the United Nations. We are one of the older clubs at the University of Western Ontario and our membership is open to students of all affiliated colleges and main campus. Our members are from all across Western, from all manner of programs, and some come to us from across oceans. We're an active club that keeps up with current events in the world, so we can debate and argue about them, usually from the perspective of other nations' foreign policies. Why? Because it is a lot of fun. During the school year we have weekly meetings where we debate, talk about issues, and work on our diplomatic skills. We also like to travel. We have a major event we go to at the end of each January in Montreal. We send delegates to more out of province and out of countryconferences each year.  If traveling is not your thing, we hold in house events each year which require time, effort and a bunch of volunteers to pull off. Our new cornerstone event on campus is our High School Conference, which continues to grow and expand since it started last year, and draws schools from across South Western Ontario. We also run our own University Level conference which has been growing every year, and draws attendance from Universities across Ontario. If our club sounds like something you'd enjoy, you are more than welcome to join us. Either contact us during the school year, or come out to our booth during Club's Week. We are always looking for new people with fresh ideas and a fresh perspective. Previous Model UN experience or debating skills are not required, we will do our best to teach or help you if you need. https://www.facebook.com/groups/68554121147/ westernu.collegiatelink.net/images/W170xL170/0/noshadow/Profile/e8f02e45f2ea4e35b0eac534e0c3b08b.jpg 163 Politics/ Social Justice

We will be exploring many topics including salvation, sin, Mary, the Eucharist, the authority of the Church, Saints, homosexuality, contraception, and abortion, in the hopes that we can both understand our faith and be able to share it with others with greater clarity. We also engage in a prayerful reading of the Bible in the form of lectio divina on a regular basis. We also meet on Fridays in a more social atmosphere. Activities this year will include sports, movies, games, laser tag, men's and women's nights, and lots of parties with food. Stay updated on Facebook and watch for our emails for more information. Taking one of our small group faith studies is another great way to develop a stronger relationship with Christ, learn more about the Faith, and experience fellowship with other Catholics. Some of benefits that students could have through the activities of this club are stress relief from the workload and brain stimulation since paper folding requires increased amounts of hand-eye-coordination. uwopac@gmail.com https://www.facebook.com/groups/46815907131/ westernu.collegiatelink.net/images/W170xL170/0/noshadow/Profile/9c739ad702ea4513ae69c2d09b925f09.jpg 164 Hobbies/ Special Interests

1739 Political Science Association PSA The Political Science Association (PSA) is a ratified student-run organization affiliated with the Department of Political Science. The PSA aims to advance both the social and academic experience for Political Science students at Western. The Political Science Association's social and academic programming revolves around the club’s five principle initiatives: to foster a liaison between students and faculty, expose students to post graduate possibilities, advance non-curricular knowledge in Political Science, provide opportunities to gain valuable leadership experience, and to represent the needs and concerns of Political Science students. As a member of the Political Science Association, an assortment of student programming is available to you. Refer below for an overview of what PSA has to offer throughout the academic school year.   General Meetings Members of the Political Science Association come together throughout the year to stay informed with PSA initiatives, to get involved with the club, and to socialize with other members. From on campus to off campus, watching elections or simply sitting down to socialize, it is a great way to get to know other students.   Trips Every year the PSA organizes a trip to enhance learning outside of the classroom. In previous years, members have had the opportunity to travel to Washington, DC and New York City. In 2012, we travelled to Winnipeg, Manitoba for the annual Canadian Political Science Students Association conference. The PSA plans on attending the 2013 Conference as well, to be held in Vancouver, British Columbia.   Speakers The PSA hosts special speaker events throughout the year. In the past, we have had London Mayor Joe Fontana, Daryl Copland, and Barbara Kellerman. The PSA also runs a Speaker Series run by Professors and Students. 2012 topics included the Republican Primary Debate and the Middle East.   Prof-Student Socials The PSA hosts prof and student socials and hosts a yearly wine and cheese. It gives us all a chance to talk to our professors on anything but essays or class participation. Students receive free wine with membership!   Information Sessions The PSA runs grad school information sessions in first semester for senior students interested in continuing their education in Political Science. Close to the end of the year, the PSA runs Intent to Register information sessions to help students through the registration process. The PSA also runs presentations on Federal and Provincial government internships and jobs.   Essay Writing Clinics Once a year, the PSA hosts an essay clinic for students taking PS1020 - Introduction to Political Science. Upper year Political Science students are available to read, review, and provide advice to students regarding their essays.    psa.western@gmail.com http://www.facebook.com/psawestern http://www.twitter.com/psawestern westernu.collegiatelink.net/images/W170xL170/0/noshadow/Profile/d9e99c24955c4204821831404ea03060.jpg 156 Academics

Currently, many Rwandans suffer from prevalent developing country diseases such as: cholera, HIV/AIDS, and psychological trauma. These health issues worsened after the genocide in 1994. We hope to alleviate this problem by formulating new curriculum to better train health care professionals in coping with these issues. By partnering with the Kigali Health Institute and the National University of Rwanda, we hope to bring about this change. We have a strong support base from the faculty and students from the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. http://www.facebook.com/groups/284192701606307/ westernu.collegiatelink.net/images/W170xL170/0/noshadow/Profile/a774d4c308f147ff80328d72c1ee3fd6.jpg 162 International Volunteering/ Philanthropy

1612 Thaqalayn Muslim Association TMA The Thaqalayn Muslim Association at Western University primarily caters to the spiritual, academic, and social needs of the Shi’a Muslim community. The main aim is to raise awareness of Prophet Muhammad(PBUH) and the Ahlul Bayt(PBUT) and their teachings. The community of Shi'a Muslim students at UWO is one that has largely been missing a unifying voice to address their various needs, be it academic, social, or spiritual. The aim behind establishing the TMA is to create a support system and cater primarily, although not exclusively, to the needs of the Shi'a Muslim students at the university while simultaneously representing their collective voices andpursuing their ideals. Our objectives are to: promote the teachings of the Holy Qur'an and the purified Ahlul-Bayt, unite and defend the followers adhering to the Holy Qur'an and the Ahlul-Bayt from misconceptions and false propaganda, and create bridges of peace, unity, and harmony amongst humankind in general and Muslims in particular. http://www.facebook.com/tma.atwestern westernu.collegiatelink.net/images/W170xL170/0/noshadow/Profile/fa8ed1491ee5435bb65d6565b2ec791c.jpg 167 Faith
1819 The Comedy Club Comedy Western's number one spot for comedy on campus since our ratification in 2005 and near de-ratification 2005-2012. We have weekly Improv Club, where we learn skills and perform, as well as Write Club where we write and perform sketches. We're the funniest group on campus! We do any and all things funny, improv, sketches, stand up, goofs, you name it! We've had a dedicated group of comedians for years now, and hold weekly improv meetings with anywhere from twenty to fifty people! We have two main groups: Improv Club: We do improv at weekly meetings, both Canadian Improv Games-style and Whose Line Is It Anyways-style. If you did improv at high school, or if you're interested in learning good performance skills then come on down! No previous experience required. We've been asked to do workshops for business clubs on improv skills too! It's a great way to work on staying cool under pressure. We also do shows! Write Club: This is where the written word gets awesome. Here we write sketches, videos, stand-up and anything else. It's a smaller, laid back and packed with hillarity. Looking to workshop a short play you've written? Punch up a sketch? Make a hillarious YouTube video? WE DO IT ALL. It's a great place to practice creative writing and collaborative stuff. The best part? We have a huge show where we put it all on! The Improv Team: This is a dedicated group of students who perform around campus at charity events, shows, residences and local events. They even represent Western in competitions around Southern Ontario against other schools (we took 3rd at Brock last year!). We hold try-outs around the second week of October, and have a final team of 7-9 people. We do plenty of training sessions beforehand though, and have taken on people who did improv at high school and people who just started. Come on out! CHALLENGE ACCEPTED! Not only are we the funniest club on campus, we're also the awesomest club on campus. AT EVERYTHING. That's right! We think we can beat other clubs AT THEIR OWN ACTIVITY! We're ready to take on anyone in a friendly competition. If your club is looking for a special event or if you think you can take us on then email uwocomedy@gmail.com and get ready, because CHALLENGE ACCEPTED. COMEDY@CAMPUS: We also work extensively with Huron, King's and Brescia to come together and put on amazing shows. For the last two years we've held Improv Wars to try and find out who takes the title of BEST IMPROVERS EVER, and we look forward to doing even more! http://www.facebook.com/UWOComedyClub https://twitter.com/uwocomedy westernu.collegiatelink.net/images/W170xL170/0/noshadow/Profile/6c22503074a242c092504592b690be34.jpg 165 Music and Performing Arts

The Western Ontario Vegan Society is an inclusive community working towards a peaceful world, free from violence and discrimination towards all animals - human and non. We promote the abolition of animal exploitation through creative, nonviolent vegan education. The essence of veganism is nonviolence and respect for others. Nonhuman animals are sentient beings who value their lives and have interests similar to ours. They shouldn't be the property (things) of another. Therefore, vegans do not eat, wear or exploit animals for any purposes. WOVS seeks to empower others to becomes agents of positive social change and encourage them to live in accordance with their values. We can all agree that inflicting unnecessary suffering and death on animals is wrong, yet most of us still participate in this unnecessary harm by using animals. We welcome anyone interested in engaging in open-minded, positive and inclusive dialogue about the ethical, environmental, health, and other social justice issues associated with our use of nonhuman animals. Throughout the year we will be hosting a variety of educational and social events. These will include presentations by acclaimed activists and authors, workshops, film screenings, potlucks, dinner outings, sanctuary visits, and vegan outreach initiatives. We offer a supportive environment where everyone is welcome, especially those who are curious about veganism. The club’s primary mandate is to educate all students at Western on the skills needed to become a value investor. WIC achieves this by giving weekly educational presentations, reports on industry news and by managing a portfolio of equities with real capital. WIC manages a $150,000 diversified fund of U.S and Canadian equities and applies a value investing philosophy. The portfolio is segmented into six different industry sectors led by a team of analysts. All buy and sell pitches for the fund are put forward at general meetings by the analyst team with the support of researchers and general members. Getting Involved Students from all faculties are encouraged to join as general members, regardless of skill level. General meetings and all researcher meetings take place on a weekly basis. Membership to the Western Investment Club gives you access to the following: Weekly general meetings, where all educationals, news events, and pitches are presented, Superday workshops, where the most important valuation and finance skills are concisely taught, Social and networking events, where you can meet with internal members and WIC alumni, Researcher eligibility, which allows you to follow an industry and assist with presentations, A network of thousands of Ivey and Western alumni, Exclusive job postings into the finance world, A growing community of like-minded and ambitious individuals. wic.executive@gmail.com https://www.facebook.com/westerninvestmentclub westernu.collegiatelink.net/images/W170xL170/0/noshadow/Profile/b2048684f1c54747a56c348d29090029.jpg 157 Business and Finance

1725 Western Lifeline Western Lifeline is a pro-life presence on the campus of Western University Canada. Our goal is to raise awareness of the abortion situation in Canada, to support expectant mothers through events and fundraisers, and to open the discussion of abortion. Western Lifeline is the only pro-life presence on Western University Canada campus. As of 1988, there are no legal restrictions on abortion in Canada. This means a child can be aborted up until the moment of entire birth. Science tells us that preborn child is human. Yet, during the process of an abortion, the preborn child is dismembered, decapitated and disemboweled. We ask why a human in a developmental stage is not afforded rights and protection. Our goal is to raise awareness of the abortion situation in Canada, to support expectant mothers through events and fundraisers, and to open up the discussion of abortion. lifeline.western@gmail.com http://www.facebook.com/groups/10085981823/ westernu.collegiatelink.net/images/W170xL170/0/noshadow/Profile/f533b9e75996468ba7796178d56bbdb3.jpg 163 Politics/ Social Justice

1630 Western Piano Society WPS Interested in piano or music in general? Join the Western Piano Society! ANYONE of any skill level (even no skill) is welcome! We hold concerts, offer piano lessons and volunteer as musicians in the community. Western Piano Society was founded to provide students at Western an opportunity to share their passion for piano-playing and music. WPS activities include regular concerts where members can perform in a casual setting. Performers are encouraged to play any piece they like, be it classical, jazz, or contemporary. Members who do not wish to play, but to listen can come and enjoy the music. Members are also provided with the opportunity to volunteer at St. Joseph's to play for the elderly. This is a great opportunity to perform in front of others while contributing to the community. Lastly, the teaching program in WPS allows members who are willing to learn to be matched up with another member who is qualified to teach. Matching is based on needs and preferences. This is an excellent opportunity for those who wish to learn piano or to gain teaching experience. Be it an opportunity to teach, a chance to learn, or a environment to relieve stress, WPS will provide it for you.   Please like our Facebook page for updates: https://www.facebook.com/westernpianosociety https://www.facebook.com/westernpianosociety westernu.collegiatelink.net/images/W170xL170/0/noshadow/Profile/e90a232722b846e899c66665ffe04d44.jpg 165 Music and Performing Arts
