Invisible Women book shoutout

Hi. Happy Friday evening. I am three chapters in to Invisible Women: Data Bias in a World Designed for Men by @CCriadoPerez.

Here are a few more words, but but don't read them until you at least bookmark that link, download a sample, or just go ahead and buy your copy: I'll refund the price if you don't like it, and give your copy to a friend.

I placed an advance order when I read a review, it arrived a few nights ago, and in two nights I have gone from "I want to read this," to "I should keep on reading this," to "I am required to read this and share it." It's not a comfortable read. It's heartbreaking and infuriating.

You can read the summary and easily accept the premise on an intellectual level, but to read the book is to understand the difference between knowing about a thing and internalizing the truth of a thing -- feeling its meaning and wider implications. So, if you followed the link, read the summary, and thought to yourself, "sure, of course," maybe set aside that impulse.

Most people who know me very well at work know I keep a few copies of Conscious Leadership around and give them out, periodically restocking my supply. I think I will pick up a box of Invisible Women to share, as well. It feels, just a few chapters in, like it will permanently reshape my perception of the world; painfully, but for the better.

I put this in a gist for now. Once I've read it, I'll try to write a real review that does it justice and put it over on my blog.

Hi. This was a gist blog post. I put other stuff over on my real blog, and use gist for stuff that's more transient and too big to stuff into tweets.
