Third Party CC Scam
The third party CC scam works like this.
There are three parties involved:
a) The innocent buyer.
b) The innocent seller.
c) The con artist.
Here's how it works:
C, the con artist, goes on a website and lists something for sale at a "too good to be true" price.
A, the innocent buyer, takes the bait and makes an online payment to C.
BUT! C doesn't actually have the item that was listed for sale. So:
C (the con artist) uses a stolen credit card to buy the actual item from B (the innocent seller), and has it shipped to A.
The end result:
A, the innocent buyer, receives the item they bought, and believes that all is well.
B, the innocent seller, eventually gets a chargeback or fraud alert on the item they "sold" to A.
C, the con artist, walks away with the money received from A!
