We're gonna talk about the basics of Knot Tying and learn a Square Knot, a Sheet Bend, and an Overhad Knot.
For this class you will need:
- a piece of rope about 24in long
- a marker to color one end of the rope
Take the colored end of the rope and form a loop, this is called a bight. Take the non-colored end and slide it through the bight (loop), bring down, around the back of the colored end, and then back between the loop and the rope coming through the loop.
When you're done you should have a sheet bend.
Take the colored end of the rope and form a bight. Take the non-colored end and slide it through the loop, bring down, around the back of the colored end, and then back through the bight.
When you're done you should have a square knot. You can tell because both ends of the rope will exit on the same side.
Cross the colored end of the rope over on itself, then pass it through the bight you just made.
Cross the colored end of the rope over the non colored end, and bring it aroudn the back. Then do it again back the other direction. Check to make sure it's a square knot.
