Prepare for Job Experience: AEIOU Activities: what questions do you have about the activities that a software developer does on a daily basis?

  • Do frontend developers spend most of their days working on one particular issue alone or in group settings on a larger problem?

answer: Depends on the product and when the due date is. Nick works with 9 other full time workers and they like to chunk out features by person.

Environment: what questions do you have about the overall environment and culture of this workplace?

  • Is the environment professional or do the employers try to make it a fun space where coworkers can bond.

answer: Nick had stated that his current employer tries their hardest to make things fun and enjoyable but they make sure to be professional when with a client.

Interactions: what questions do you have about the team at this company? What do you hope to learn during this experience?

  • What work style would your team descibe themselves as? Would you say the pace is high intensity or more laid back?

answers: Back and forth, the way they look at stories and the points assigned to they are 6 hours each point.

Objects: what questions do you have about the code or the product?

  • Do frontend developers at your job have space to have creative influence or is it more of a "heres the exact template you need to create"?

answer: when nick said that he works to stear clear from css but his employer typically gives him constraints and he gets to be creative within them.

Users: what questions do you have about how the company interacts with their users?

  • What is the key demographic that your company works to reach out to?

answers: no key demographic

After "What's a Dev?"

  • After the Job Experience, reflect on the same questions; what are your takeaways from the activity?

    • One major take away would be to keep my keypoints in mind while looking for a job in the coming months
  • Activities: what was engaging to the person/people you met with?

    • Im not sure I do that one of them said they were approached by their now employer which I found interesting
  • Environment: what did you notice about how they talked about the culture and environment of this company?

    • Nick had stated that they have 2 week long sprints where he is given a task and allowed to make his schedule accordingly.
  • Interactions: what did you notice about your interactions with this person/people?

    • I noticed that nick said his company is professional when he needs to be "dressed up" for customer meetings and when hes with his coworkers its very casual.
  • Objects: what did you learn about their approach to code and/or product development?

  • I learned that nick really doesnt enjoy CSS and works to avoid it

  • Users: what did you learn about their approach to their users?

  • Nick stated that he tries to take a very professional when it comes to the client and deliver what they are asking for in an appropriate manner.

  • do not apply to places only looking for junior devs, you wont have anyone more skilled to lean on like senior devs
  • avoid startups, they will tend to need alot of things created from the ground up and they go down often.
  • In an interview ask how often people go home at 5pm this shows how well they have their stuff together.
  • ask how they are going to help me grow as a junior developer.
  • embrace background prior to turing(artist, manager, hard worker) also turing is a long bootcamp that it fast passed and high demand.
  • highlight challenges on our projects and how you would make it better if you were to do it again
    • this is why I think it didnt work
    • admit when you dont knwo something
