Reflect on your habits from last module. What behaviors and activities were helpful for you? What activities and behaviors could be more effective for you? What processes would you like to try differently this module to become more effective at your work and as a software developer?

  • One of my most helpful habits from mod 1 would be evaluating myself in a realistic light. I have come to see what I am good at and what I need more practice in. This helps especially with growing as a whole and making sure I have no weak areas. I would like to focus more and celebrate strengths so that I am more aware of what I am good at. I feel like I have a very difficult time speaking on my strengths.

Setting intentions for this module: who do I want to be this module? What specific habits would help me get there? How are those habits tied to the identity of a software developer?

  • This module I want to be the person that is able to drive and navigate without doubting myself and my process. I feel like the best way to get there is just to jump right in and force myself through the struggle and self doubt. Eventually I will become stronger and make it one of my strengths.

Incorporate temptation bundling to create a new habit by using this template:

After [waking up], I will [stretch]. After [I write my weaknesses], I will [write my strengths].

How to enjoy “hard” habits: Reframe your habits to consider their benefits rather than their drawbacks; name 3 habits that you have to do and explain the benefits of them. How do they further your goals longterm? How will they add to your processes as a successful developer? At the end of the day, how do they add to your life?

  • “Go to bed on time” , “wake up on time” , “procrastinate for 30 minutes” and three habits that are difficult for me but they benefit me in the end. Having a consistent sleep schedule

Environment design (optional 5-min. additional reading: Motivation is Overvalued. Environment Often Matters More): how does your environment set-up currently help you with your habits? How could it be improved to make it easier for you to follow through on your habits?

  • I was unaware at first how much your work setup can actually impact your work until I purchased a second monitor. This second monitor saved me time by eliminating the need to flip back and forth repeatedly to read guidelines. I think one major way I could improve my set up further would be to purchase a standing desk since I get frequent back pain from sitting.

“When you start a new habit, it should take less than two minutes to do.” Read this 4-min article on how to stop procrastinating. Apply the 2-minute rule to reframe 2-3 of your habits by scaling them down into the 2-minute version. How does this reframing help you think about shaping your new identity as a software developer?

  • I would say I could create a new habit of “Write one thing I learned today I feel strong in” This would be very quick to do and a good way of recognizing the things I am good at. This is also going to help me become more self aware.
