Power of self-reflection

What is challenging about self-reflection?

  • It's hard to accurately or truthfully reflect on yourself without having a bias. How can you continue to build the habit of self-reflection at Turing?
  • Take time and schedule moments where you purposefully sit down and check in with yourself on all levels.

Social identity mapping

Reflect: What does your social identity tell you about what you already bring to the tech industry?

  • Diversity and the opportunity for other people to feel like they can also be successful in tech.

What would it look like for some of your minuses or question marks to turn into pluses? In other words, how could some of these traits be assets for the tech industry?

  • It would feel very empowering and inclusive to know such things as my disabilities and sexual orientation are ways to diversify the tech industry.

Values mapping Pull out 5 values for each bullet below from this list: Always valued: Humor, Connection, Creativity, Respect for Others Often valued: Performance, Joy, Pride, Patience, Helping Others Sometimes valued: Experiencing Pleasure, Hope, Legacy, Parenting, Perfection Seldom valued: Forward Looking, Lack of pretense, Pressure, Orderliness, Nurturing

Reflect:

What do these values tell you about yourself?

  • I would say these show my personality outside of work. I feel these questions would be more accurate if it was in a work setting and outside of one to better show both sides of me. This does shine light on the up beat side of my personality where I work to bring joy to other while bringing joy into my own life. Workview & Lifeview Summarize what good, worthwhile work means to you (Tip: this is NOT about what work you want to do but about why work matters to you):
  • I would say that a good work life for me would be a positive environment where people are keen on communication. I would also say an environment based on rewarding creativity would be a great aspect. Lifeview: summarize what you value in life; what matters to you?
  • In life I value above else my family and the time I get to spend with them making memories. Where do your views on work and life complement each other?
  • I would say being able to produce work that I am proud of and make a positive impact on society is a way to make my family proud of the person I have become. Where do they clash?
  • Work and family will always clash for everyone at some point since work is an obligation that takes focus and time away from teh thing that matters most. I would say this is where they would clash. Does one drive the other? How?
  • I would say that I can not have the same memories and experiences with my family without a job so getting my work completed by the end of the day would be my main goal to ensure my time with family goes unbothered.
