matrix multiplication with rotations
# 4 elem vector
w <- c(10, 20, 30, 40)
# 4*3 matrix
# [,1] [,2] [,3]
# [1,] 1 2 3
# [2,] 4 5 6

# [4,] 10 11 12
x <- matrix(1:12, ncol=3, byrow=T)
# do vectorised matrix multiplation with only element-wise ops to get:
# > w %*% x

# we can do left/right vector rotations:
# > rot(c(1,2,3,4), 1)
# [1] 2 3 4 1
# > rot(c(1,2,3,4), 2)
# [1] 3 4 1 2

# 1st, multiply the w vector element-wise with each of the columns in x:
