Paid design gig with Appcanary

ATTN: Web designers

Hello,

We are looking to hire, for a short gig, a competent web designer.

We have a lot of dense chunks of information that needs to be succintly communicated to our customers, and while we're rather good at putting websites together, making them that extra 👌 is hard.

This is where you come in. We have a specific two-week project to start, but are looking to develop a long-term relationship with the right person.

Required skills

You should, in descending order of importance:

  • be capable of working with limited supervision; we're a bit busy, and we don't have the cycles for too much hands-on
  • be an empathetic and clear communicator; we will need your help articulating the requirements for your work
  • at minimum, produce layered design comps where everything is labeled and separated
  • be capable of laying out text and user interface elements in a pleasing and aesthetically satisfying manner
  • have a deep, intuitive comprehension of the limitations of modern web design, i.e. anticipate responsive design requirements
  • be capable of rendering complex information into relatively simple design ontologies, metaphors or whathaveyous.

Bonus points

You'll stand out from other candidates if:

  • you're good at CSS, and can troubleshoot layouts across different screen sizes
  • know front end js
  • have experience with: git, github, scss
  • comfortable doing design work for a rails or javascript app
  • illustration, graphic design, animation
  • have a good feel for branding
  • are in Toronto so we can meet face to face

TO APPLY:

  1. read this section carefully
  2. study and click around on https://appcanary.com, and http://rubysec.com. Meditate on the content found at https://isitvulnerable.com/results/sample
  3. select 3 items from your portfolio you feel are representative of the skills listed above
  4. describe yourself in 140 characters or less
  5. email the above to hello -at- appcanary.com with the subject "designer gig"

We will then contact you, and arrange:

  • an interview, in person or skype
  • a short, paid work sample (wherein you will create a design comp)

It's OK if you have a full time gig, so long as you can turn around relatively quickly.

Regards,
