Bang & Olufsen MX4000 SW 2.0 Notes

Some notes to adjust the MX4000 parameters for retro gaming. These notes apply to my model (SW 2.0)

Two options:

Service Menu

With this version of the software it is not possible to enter to the service menu using the remote. To access the service menu you must open the TV.

  • Remove back cover. 4 screws (two up, two down)
  • Set TV mode (doesn't work with RGB)
  • Wit a screwdriver or something metallic short the two pins labelled SERVICE MODE, wait some seconds until a text appears
  • Navigate with the remote buttons LEFT and RIGHT. Change values with UP and DOWN.

Geometry adjustments

Tag Description Default* Range
Hfq Horizontal frequency, Vertical hold. Adjust to avoid picture rolling 42 0-63
Hph Horizontal phase, Horizontal position. Higher values move image to the right 48 0-63
Ham Horizontal amplitude, Lower values increase horizontal size 35 0-63
Vam Vertical amplitude, Higher values increase vertical size 24 0-63
Vsc Vertical s-correction, expands centre and compresses top and bottom 27 0-63
Vsh Vertical shift, Higher values move the image towards bottom of screen 13 0-63
Vli Vertical linearity, compresses top, expands bottom. lower numbers squash the upper half height of the screen 16 0-63
EWc East/West corner, shifts the top and bottom horizontally to expand corners. Higher numbers flare the top and bottom L/R corners outwards, lower numbers form a bulge in the middle of L/R sides 20 0-63
EWp East/West parabola. To make vertical lines at sides of screen parallel with sides of screen 27 0-63
EWt East/West tilt, trapezoid correction. Tilt the picture. Higher numbers tilt the picture clockwise 37 0-63
