Hmm....The offset is worrisome, although agreement with IRAF seems good for the one iraf datapoint.
Can you plot X-vals vs. vals?

@hcferguson , I added the plot as you requested. I also added a new section at the bottom using a different skewed distribution, and for that perhaps ofilter is better?
