the red keys are ones I never press, the orange ones rarely press enable key remapping by pressing Progrm + F12, then sequences of keys: press they key you want it to be first, then the key you will press to get that

general setting

  • reset everything: Progrm + Shift + F2
  • turn off key clicks: Progrm + backslash (right side)

bare minimum needed even with Karabiner full remap

  • Tab --> Caps Lock
  • Esc --> Tab

remap (any platform)

  • Tab --> Caps Lock
  • Esc --> Tab
  • Back Space --> Ctrl (left)
  • Delete --> Alt (left)
  • Down Arrow --> ]}
  • [{ --> Down Arrow
  • ]} --> [{

remap - mac mode on mac

  • Ctrl (labeled Cmd / Windows) --> Back Space
  • Cmd (labeled Ctrl - use left side) --> Delete
  • Option (labeled Alt) --> left side \

remap - windows mode on windows

  • Ctrl --> Back Space
  • Alt --> Delete
  • Cmd / Windows --> End

remap via macros (backwards orientation of regular remapping - key first, then what you want it to do)

  • make sure all regular remppings are done first!!
  • backslash (right side) --> underscore (used to do this, but using Karabiner for this now instead)

reference: modifier keys when in Windows mode, on OS X

  • Both Ctrl keys are Ctrl
  • Alt is Option
  • The Cmd + Windows key is Cmd

reference: modifier keys in Mac mode, on OS X (these seem silly to me)

  • Both Ctrl keys are Cmd
  • Alt is Option
  • The Cmd + Windows key is Ctrl

notes: keys that I don't have anywhere

  • End
  • Caps Lock

TODO

  • there are two |\ keys -- one on the right, and one on the left -- figure out a better use for one of them
