Communication - AltCampus

Presentation Checklist

  • Name should be written properly everywhere. The initials must start with capital letters. E.g. Prashant Abhishek. Not prashant abhishek or Prashant abhishek.

  • On every platform put a proper self description. What are you currently doing, what are you interested in? Why should someone follow you?

You should put 'Learning fullstack web development @AltCampus' + Your bio.

  • Use the same display picture across various platforms for consistency and noticeability. DP should be your face, not some cartoon or celebrity.

  • Everyone must have a personal website with the following pages - Home, Blog, Projects, Contact.

  • Everyone should write a paragraph about themselves, you can use this to introduce yourself anywhere.

Remote work and written communication

  • Each sentence should start with capital letter. Make sure the word 'I' is always capital 'I' and not small 'i'. Pay attention to the details.

  • Don't write long sentences.

  • Write to be understood. Give full context to the person for whom you are writing. Without the full situational understanding other person won't understand what you are trying to communicate.

  • Install Grammarly to check grammar before sending the mail/message.

  • In remote work, write your entire message or issue in one go. Don't say 'hi' and wait for other person to reply with 'hi' and then share your problem. That will waste a lot of time. Instead just share entire message the first time you say 'hi'.

Github

  • Raise an issue for every feature or bug.

  • For every issue, create a separate branch and then raise a pull request.

  • All communication related to the issue should be done on the particular issue thread.

Tweeting

  • Don't put hashtags first.

  • Don't write more than two sentences in a para.

  • Use emojis to add color and warmth. Don't use too many(more than 5-7) emojis.

  • Don't put more than 3-4 hashtags.

  • Put screenshot/screen recordings whenever you want to demo something.

  • Don't unnecessarily tag people, its annoying. Feel free to tag AltCampus, the organization, in tweets related to learning.

  • Read your tweet twice before publishing, edit it and make it sharper.

  • Like and retweet tweets that you like from other members in the AltCampus and broader learning community. Show appreciation.

  • Writing replies is harder than writing tweets. Try to reply to 1-2 tweets everyday. Engage and exchange ideas with other developers.
