Agile & Feedback Reflection Submissions - Mod2 - 1808

What have you learned about the use of agile vs. waterfall in software projects?

  • Both are used in professional environments. While most teams aspire to be agile, they tend to fall into waterfall processes due to constraints in getting the project to meet some type of deadline.

How did you and your group approach project management in this project (what tools did you use, how did you hold each other accountable, etc.)?

  • My partner and I used github issues almost exclusively. This really helped with our user stories and keeping us on top of what needed to get done. We also used a retro log in google sheets to document what we completed each day and what we wanted to complete the next day.

What role did you take on in the project?

  • I took on the role of the organizer in our project. I documented what needed to get done and what should get done on a daily basis and made sure our issues in github were up to date with our progress.

What changes would you make to your approach in future team projects?

  • I think we could have more clearly defined the types of functionality each person would take on. Early on our group project turned into a paired project which made things a little bit more difficult on the work side of things.

How does retro function in a team project?

  • We use a google doc to go over each thing we did during our time together and each thing we wanted to complete the next day. Being able to look back on this everyday was very helpful.

In your team retro, how did you engage in the feedback process? What principles of feedback did you use in these conversations?

  • Our feedback was done in person for the most part. We also used github comments to give constructive feedback in our PRs.

How would you describe your ability to communicate feedback? How has this experience affected your communication skills? How do you want to improve in your ability to communicate feedback?

  • I would describe my ability to give feedback as friendly and thought-out. I would like to continue to improve my communication skills by frequently giving and recieving feedback on a daily basis. I think the consistency of feedback is one of the most import parts of the feedback cycle.
