Notes on the first session (the big one)

EdinburghID

People grouped up the following services into one:

  • Card services
  • change your password
  • set up your email account

We could brand this into one "EdinburghID" that students are required to set up when they arrive in Edinburgh (this encompasses setup for Card Services, EASE, and AD).

Sticky Notes

One group associated PebblePad with sticky notes. Perhaps we could integrate a sticky notes feature into MyEd that works with PebblePad?

What actually is PebblePad?

Post-session note (23 July 2018) - Qais Patankar

This is likely to bloat MyEd and is probably unsuitable.

Also, after inspection, it appears that PebblePad is used specifically by one demographic of students. Maybe scratch this idea.

General questions from this session

How do students apply when they don't go through UCAS?

General notes from this session

"A search bar would be nice" (Anita)

Anita also unknowingly reinvented the Notifications Service.

Ingerid: "After figuring out the source in MyEd I just go directly to the website"

Post-session note (23 July 2018) - Qais Patankar

Note that both Anita and Ingerid are Informatics students

Notes on the last session (Friday 2pm, 20th July 2018)

Post-session note (23 July 2018) - Qais Patankar

Both students were relatively savvy. James is an Informatics student.

Search

James compared MyEd to being a Windows 7 start menu where he can just start applications.

He also compared MyEd to being the Windows Control Panel.

He said there should be a search box.

Footer

James said that he loves that feature as he can just see the entire list of portlets/features without needing to navigate the clutter and bloat of MyEd.

Actions vs Info

Information on the homepage, and link to actions instead.

"We don't need to perform actions all the time, so it's okay to hide it behind something else"

Path & DRPS

  • Path: Find and Build Courses
  • DPRS: Course Catalogue

General notes from this session

"The world around me" vs. "Me"

Consistently: "Why is exampapers part of the library" (also, we should add exam papers to the courses portlet)

Print credit: should be part of both "library" and "finances", but primarily "finances".

"EUCLID needs more deep linking" - James

Titling: "getting around" is a nice title, but "Maps" is an accessible title

Path: apparently it's broken for the Divinity use case

Bug: for James, his MSc degree is not showing up

Bug: James has been told not to use the Finance Channel's "pay by installment" feature as it is apparently broken. I know him from outside this internship, and have messaged him for further information.
