Only author on this list I've actually read before is Mercedes Lackey, who I quite enjoyed in ~middle school. List will probably change as I work through some of it.

Also, I tended to select towards my biases (best I could, without reading yet!)

Hey there, China Mieville is pretty un-terrible, check out "The Iron Council".

I would like to comment/link to this on a writing/technolgoy podcast tonight. It is an interesting list and would like to see it grow. If you have a social media (i.e. twitter) you woul like attached with a link to this gist I would be happy to post that as well. Thank you

Sheri Tepper is a bit more on the SF side but her stuff is good. I view Grass as kind of a feminist response to Dune. Laurie Marks's Fire Logic is one I have queued up, looks good but obviously don't know for myself yet.

@akahn any good/standout introductory books from her in your mind?

@rbxbx Pretty much everything from Tamora Pierce, I've read all of Song of the Lioness and The Immortals. I can also recommend The Enchanted Forest Chronicles by Patricia Wrede.
