Oh the shit I've lost (spring, 2016 edition)
  • My blue knit hat

I rather liked that hat. If I had to wear something on my head, at least it didn't look like shit, and it kept it warm. Reversible, etc.

Lost in March, at either some fancy-ish Italian restaurant that about a dozen of us went to (why did we do this, again?), but they claim not to have seen it; or Riverfront Tavern, where we all carried on to. Rodjek lost his hat there too, his New Zealand rugby (or whatever sportsball) hat. I called them and told them we lost two hats and described them. "Yeah, we've got them, come down." Walked down, found Rodjek's hat, but the other hat was definitely not mine. "You want it anyway?" "Uh, no."

I actually "lost" this hat like 3 times, it usually turning up in the laundry or some such. It just eventually succumbed to the siren song of getting the hell away from me.

  • My nalgene water bottle.

I carried one of these (1 liter, blue, transparent, you could drop it off a bridge onto pavement and it would be fine) for 4 months in India until it fell off an auto-rickshaw in Ernakulam because it wasn't properly secured (the perils of trying to function after an overnight train).

So I got another one when I got home and carried it for the next 6 years, until the very first goddamned flight on this Europe trip, when I somehow managed to (apparently) leave it on the plane at Heathrow.

  • International travel power adapter, all the zillions of plugs and countries.

Each plug pushes out with a slider on the side, like one of those four-color ink pens that were all the rage in 6th grade.

I think I got this in 2012 before my 2nd India trip. I definitely had it shortly thereafter when I was in Uruguay.

Train from Dublin to Galway. Seat 37A. Had all my shit plugged in to the power outlet at the seat. In the deboarding rush, I unplugged everything except evidently the power adapter. Got to the place I was staying, started to plug in things and was like "awwww, shit."

Made due with one there, and picked up a UK-only pale imitation of my dear adapter at a "Daybreak" convenience mart in Galway.

  • My goddamned credit card

Galway, again. Should probably bring no possessions if I ever end up here in the future. Beautiful place and all, but still.

Ate at a pretty decent Indian joint, had a couple glasses of wine. Paid the people with the card. Why would I leave it there? Who knows. Woke up the next morning like "FFFFUUUUU".

It's a "Bank Simple" card, which means I can go online and block the card until I figure out what's up. Did that. I carry another card, so pulled that out. Pretty sure I should just get a bunch of cash out now and hide that card in the bottom of my suitcase.
